About

ABOUT PORTUGAL THE MAN:

Over the past decade, Portugal The Man has established themselves as one of rock's most prized possessions and a live phenomenon, with over 1,600 shows under their belts and a storied reputation as festival favorites.

Originally heralding from Alaska, the Portland-based band - comprised of John Gourley, Zach Carothers, Kyle O'Quin, Eric Howk, Jason Sechrist and Zoe Manville - soared to new heights in 2017 with the release of their RIAA certified-gold album, Woodstock. The album was marked by the astounding success of their infectious single, "Feel It Still," which earned the group a plethora of new accolades - including a GRAMMY award for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance," a 6x RIAA platinum certified single certification, a mind-blowing 20-week residency at #1 on alternative radio, and an inescapable presence on the Top 40 airwaves.Alongside the shine of their myriad musical accomplishments lies the group's long-standing passion for social justice. In fact, this is precisely the intersection on which Portugal The Man thrives; throughout their career, the band has consistently exemplified how to deeply commit to both artistry and activism. This dynamic inspired them to officially launch their PTM Foundation in 2020, focused on universal issues related to human rights, community health, and the environment, with an emphasis on causes directly impacting Indigenous Peoples.

Their continued passion for activism has also led to recent partnerships with organizations such as the National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project (helping communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities), March for Our Lives (Gun Reform), Keep Oregon Well (Mental Health), and Protect Our Winters (Climate Change), to name just a few.

  • The Lords of Portland

by Best show at best venue ever on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

What a show! Salt shed is the best venue in Chicago. The lords of Portland experience was incredible. 2 1/2 hours of portugal the man and im already hoping for a 3 night run for them next time. Great meeting the band, they seemed like the greatest crew!

  • Vocals were impossible to hear

by Spiceboy on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

First time to attend a show in the shed at Saltshed. Don’t know if it is the shed’s acoustics, the sound system, the band’s performance or the sound mixer but the vocals were impossible to hear and understand. Was very disappointed.

  • Portugal The Man rocks

by Joslay on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

They were amazing. The guitar Solos gave me chills. They sound was stellar and their performance was on point. One of the only bands that I love every single song of theirs. Their live performance was better than I could have hoped for

  • Somewhere Between Disappointing and Terrible

by MusicFan on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

This concert was lacking on every level. As a Christian, I would rather not bash both bands in detail but suffice to say, we left early.

  • Great venue, difficult sound

by Kyle on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

The venue and show was great, but the sound was difficult to make out more subtle sounds such as vocals

  • Not. What I expected.

by RichA on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I have heard the group's music on the radio and other music outlets, listened to the last two albums the group put out and found it very enjoyable, fun, upbeat and positive. The sound and style of their recordings almost puts them in the 'Pop' category for me with a good beat and clear and up-front vocals leading the way, and that is the show that I was expecting. I understand that the band is categorized as 'Alternative', HOWEVER, I was not at all prepared for what I saw and heard at their live show. Portugal. The Man performed from a heavy stage set up, with a big drum kit, big keyboard set up, guitars and bass to the sides and the vocals up front. The lighting was from overhead and behind, making it difficult for me to really see the performers from the front. The sound they produced was of a style much different to what I hear on normal air play; Heavy beats and percussion, loud guitars and bass all overwhelming the vocal instruments, not what I expected them to sound like live. The people on the floor seemed to have been enjoying themselves, dancing and moving, but the grown-ups I saw, as well as myself weren't having the best time. I've seen Patti Smith, Black Pumas and Porno for Pyros at The Salt Shed and they all sounded good in that venue, so I'm hoping it wasn't an engineering issue for Portugal. The Man, but I was disappointed. I've seen several shows at The Salt Shed; I think it's a great venue with good access, good and growing services for drinks and food and the Goose Island Pub recently opening. The venue is solid in terms of viewing the stage and acoustics. I'm looking forward to going there for another show, but not Portugal. The Man.

  • Wonderful Venue but...

by ms on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

The sound was terrible. Very muddled. The band has such a great sound with beautiful voices. Couldn't understand any of it.

  • Couldn't attended and couldn't get rid of tickets

by Matt on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

I bought tickets to this show a while back and unfortunately had something come up so I couldn't attend. When I tried to re-list the tickets, I was told that the event organizer wasn't allowing for resale and I couldn't find anyone to take the tickets for free so they went to waste. I understand not allowing scalpers to resale tickets for more than they paid but the fact that I couldn't even list them at face value is frustrating.

  • Need to fix the setlist

by too old for general admission on 5/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Opening act Reyna Tropical was horrific and quickly turned off the audience. PTM started off strong but needs to ditch several of the prolonged 10 minute jams throughout their show. PTM brought out an Alaskan songwriter friend in the second half of the show. He played 2 “songs” and everyone lost interest. I honestly wish PTM ditched both these people and had a shorter show and tighter playlist.

  • A great night

    by nickim317 on 5/13/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The Portugal. The Man concert in Indianapolis was great. The band went immediately from one song to another, barely stopping for breath. They played for a long time, and I can't think of many songs I love that they didn't play. The opener, Reyna Tropical, was not someone I was familiar with, but she was really good as well. The only improvement I could suggest is to lower the volume of the instruments compared to the singing. The words were hard to hear/understand during periods where all the instruments were playing.

  • Great show!

by Davi on 5/13/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

PTM never disappoints. Another great show. If you haven’t taken the time to see them….you must!

  • Bad show.

by Sarah Z on 5/13/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 2 out of 5

I love music and Portugal the man. I honestly couldnt wait to leave this one. The band stopped to let an artist perform who had to throw in their views of oppression and basically weird music that lost the crowd. Everyone kinda stood there. They killed the vibe. I wont buy tickets for them again.

  • Great Show

by Colin on 5/13/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

They played a lot of throwback songs. Had a great time.

  • Fantastic Concert

by Mellysa on 5/12/24The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third time I've been to see PTM and this was the best one yet. I love this venue but it was also a great set list and vocals could really be heard clearly.

  • One of the most amazing experiences I've had at a live show!

by Timmy g on 5/10/24The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

I did the meet n greet for portugal the man! Bought tickets as soon as they were on sale, as I've never seen them ever do a meet n greet! Did not disappoint one bit. The 2 song performance was really special. Almost surreal as they are one of my favorite bands and there was only like 10 of us. They took pictures with us. Got to ask a bunch of questions. I'm not sure if the song I asked about was already in the setlist but it was in there which was amazing as I've never seen them play it live! They were so friendly and cool as a fan. I'm sure it's kind of weird for everybody at first. To top it off my buddy I came with got the drummers drumsticks handed to him after the show! My buddy gave me one to put a cherry on top of this amazing experience! Thank you thank you thank you!!

  • Thumbs up all around!

by RTC on 5/9/24The Pageant - St LouisRating: 4 out of 5

PTM are always great, as is The Pageant. It’s my favorite STL venue to watch a show

  • Not to my taste

by sebstl on 5/9/24The Pageant - St LouisRating: 1 out of 5

Love their albums. The live show was like a different band. Not fun, happy, joyful, just this long sludge of indistinguishable noise. They seemed to be having fun, and so did some of the audience, so this has to be someone's jam. But if you primarily like their produced sound, you may not enjoy them live. It's not the same thing.

  • Can't hear

by Mindy on 5/6/24Greenfield Lake Amphitheater - WilmingtonRating: 2 out of 5

I used to LOVE going to Greenfield Lake. I practically live there during the summer so when Live Nation took over we had high hopes for better bands, etc. They have essentially ruined the best concert venue in Wilmington. They have the opening band turned up so loud that I could feel the vibration in my chest. I had to text my husband sitting next to me because he couldn't hear me. I don't talk throughout the concert so the fact that I couldn't even tell him I was going to use the restroom is just wrong. TURN IT DOWN. I even saw one guy turn off his hearing aid. FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC, TURN IT DOWN. I went to Red Clay Strays and Portugal the Man (last Monday and Wednesday) and both were the same. INSANE VOLUME for no reason. Please, please turn it down.

  • Great band with great energy

by Ebee on 5/6/24Greenfield Lake Amphitheater - WilmingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Great band with great energy but unfortunately sound was off and therefore vocals were hard to hear.

  • Too loud

by Ginger on 5/4/24Greenfield Lake Amphitheater - WilmingtonRating: 1 out of 5

The only thing I heard/felt from that band was vibrating bass. Not music Never have worn earplugs to concert This band was awful If you hid behind the brick wall which de erased bass you could actually hear other instruments/singer
