    save your $$$

by dontbother on 7/17/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

I was disappointed with this show. I expected alot more and received alot less, for anyone who has seen In The Heights nothing close to it at all.....there was no music besides the DJ which could of played better music, and the actors sang but it was poetry....The play is about Latinos & Blacks, and as a latino myself I was not impressed. It had its funny moments but that was it....it was very low budget......and I understand us minorities have had struggles and have had it hard in life, but the more you dwell on it the more its going to continue to happen.....it should of been a more of an upbeat rythmic play, or at least thats what i was expecting!!!!

    This was awesome!!!

by HellsKitchenMama1 on 7/17/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

At first sight my husband and I were a bit dismayed at the set up on stage and the lack of production details. It is not broadway. But after the first five minutes into the play and the jokes we were happy to be there. This play was the modern day West Side Story from the hood. I do recommend this play to anyone with a open mind, you will enjoy. You won't be disappointed.

    Great Show, Not for Everyone

by RollieJr on 7/16/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

Hillarious yet serious at times. Funnier if you understand spanish and if you are familiar with the modern hip hop culture and music. Thats why I say not for everyone because some people would be so lost. Overall I highly recommend it!! Great show!!

    Collards and Plantainos was rousing

by TRSantos on 7/16/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

The play was much more interactive than I would have imagined. The "play" or maybe musical, depicted the integral aspects of the confict that occur between people of color and the often amusing and conficting generational perspectives that surface. The singing, as well as the historic and geographic viewpoint gave this production a lot more depth than I had anticipated.

Platanos & Collard Greens was truly unforgettable!

by Anonuser on 7/15/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

This is the type of play a parent can take their teenage children to go see and they'll truly appreciate it. So often we overlook stereotypes between African-American and Hispanic cultures and it is nice that, Platanos & Collards Greens touches upon issues that some minorities have experienced in their lifetime. The play is very comical, very entertaining and worth every last penny.

    very funny

by aletta1 on 7/13/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

I thought plantanos and collard greens was very funny. This topic is a dinner table discussion within the black community, so it was interesting to see it acted out on stage. Much of what was discussed is commonly known so it wasn't very eye opening but a nice night out nonetheless.
