Pittsburgh Penguins History
The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the National Hockey League for the 1967-1968 season during the League's expansion from six to 12 teams. The Penguins played at Civic Arena (nicknamed "the Igloo") until the 2009-2010 season, when they moved to PPG Paints Arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center).
Postseason appearances have been nearly a birthright for the Penguins and their fans since the 1990-1991 season, after which they won five Stanley Cup Championships. They've won six conference championships and earned the Stanley Cup Champion title in back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017) with coach Mike Sullivan and the great Sidney Crosby as captain at the helm.
In the 2005 NHL Draft the Penguins selected Crosby as their No. 1 pick. Dubbed “The Next One,” Crosby has spent an historic 18 seasons with the Penguins and enters the 2023-2024 at 25th on the league’s all-time scoring list.
The franchise boasts more than a dozen former players in the NHL Hall of Fame, including Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Mark Recchi, Bryan Trottier, and Paul Coffey. The Penguins most recently made the playoffs in 2022. To date, they've appeared in the playoffs 37 times in their 55 seasons.

Penguins were awesome... amazing energy at the mellon arena.... my ears were ringing after every penguins goal... entire crowd was fired up. overall awesome experience.
I have been a Pens fan all my life and have dreamed of attending a Stanley Cup finals game. Never guessing it would be the turning point of the finals. When we were able to get tickets I was a little concerned because they were on the end that the Pens only shot once, I was able to see three goals and once was even short-handed. They were awesome seats. This has been on my bucket list of things to do and it was a dream come true. Never have I experienced fans as loud and proud of a sports team. Pens fans are truly the best.
Been to numerous games throughout the season and playoffs and this one was by far the best. The atmosphere for Stanley Cup Final game is unrivaled.
This might have been the most fun I have ever had at a Penguin game! The seats were great, the fans around us were fun, and the second period scoring explosion let me actually relax and enjoy the game.
Game 6 of the Finals...what more needs to be said?
this game was the greatest penguin game i attended(next to the winter classic). It was well worth the money and was an awesome spectacle. It was awesome seeing the pens come back in the series and send it to a game 7. nothing better than losing your voice while watching the pens hold home in a pivotal game 6 which sent them off to a stanley cup victory in game 7.
Exactly one year ago, June 4, 2008, I had gone to Playoffs Round 4, Game 6 at Mellon Arena to watch the Red Wings hoist the Cup on our ice. It was with a tiny morsel of dread that I got a ticket to Game 4 this year. But what a game! Staal's shortie. Sid's first (and only) of the series. Fleury playing spectacularly. The best part? Seeing Game 4 of the series when the Pens would ultimately turn the tables and hoise the Cup on Detroit ice!
Great game! This win sent the series back to Detroit where the Pens won the CUP!!! The F section has the greatest seats in the house!
The atmosphere in Mellon was the best ever. The team was hungry for the win, knowing they needed it to force a Game 7. Best sporting event I have ever been to!
Outstanding experience. The penguins evening up the series. The fans were so into it. I have never heard the arena so loud. Very glad I spent the money to go.
obviously it was an awesome game, the pens won and they went on to capture the stanley cup Hossa sucks and will never touch the cup
Tremendous experience, even though the Wings lost. The fans in Pittburgh are solid and gave us a rough time over our Wings jerseys, but were cool.
One of the best Cup games I've seen. We got the cup baby!
Couldn't have picked a better game for my sons first Stanley Cup playoff game. Found our pictures in a Sports Illustrated panaramic shot of the Igloo too!
Great game. Seats were good. Love to see the Pens crush the opposition.
It was an amazing experience to go to a game in a true Hockey TOWN. I enjoyed the game a lot!!
The game was amazing. The purchase of the tickets was smooth.
This game was amazing and in doubt right down to the end. One in a list of 16 victories to the Stanley Cup!
Great Game seeing a Stanley Cup Final Game in person
GReat game, great seat, great time..................a hat trick!!
