Phoenix Mercury History
The Phoenix Mercury are a professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Founded in 1997, the Mercury are one of the league’s original eight franchises. The team reached their first Finals in 1998 and have made six total appearances, winning in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The Mercury’s legacy is marked by two major No. 1 picks: Diana Taurasi in 2004 and Brittney Griner in 2013. As members of the Mercury, Taurasi won the regular season MVP in 2009 and set multiple WNBA records, including most career points, most three-pointers and most field goals made, while Griner earned two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and broke several block records. Ahead of the 2025 season, Taurasi announced her retirement and the Mercury acquired five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas, who continues to hold the WNBA record for career triple-doubles.

THIS GAME WAS AWESOME. IT'S ALWAYS A BATTLE WHEN L.A. COMES TO TOWN. THE MERCURY NEVER DISAPPOINT. THESE GAMES ARE SO FUN. OUR DAUGHTER LOVES TO GO.
We go as often as we can, but this time we were courtside. It was amazing to watch the intensity, strength and athleticism of the players. We go as often as we can.
It was our first game, and it was great fun for the entire family! Ticket and food prices are reasonable and we will go again!
You could never complain when attending a game and it goes into overtime. You pay for the ambiance. It’s exciting to watch on television, but never as exciting as it is to be 2 rows from the court.
This game was a very entertaining come from behind win. Diana Taurasi was excellent as always. Penny Taylor showed great effort but fouled out of the game. Candice Dupree was an unexpected and welcome surprise as she dominated the paint. All in all, the Mercury showed great poise in an overtime win against a quality opponent.
I love going to the live games on the weekends. Fun fun fun is all I can say.
rode the train down for free with ride n rail Had a very good time great family fun......even though phx lost.
everyone should go to WNBA games! They are exciting and great sporting events.
It was a great night out......had great seats, purchased on short notice. We were in ROW TWO, and have never been SOOOO CLOSE! We sat near season ticket holders and they were all polite and very friendly. Sad that the "home team" lost, but it was a good game. Would definitely go again, as it was a great "date night"!!!
the game was exciting and didnt end well, but still like watching the Mercury play.
We paid good money to see the Mercury play the Sunflowers as advertised in the AZ Republic with a picture of Diana Taurasi. Diana did not play and Penny Taylor did not play. Extremely disappointed.
Pretty sad to pay $70/ticket and not see the best players on the Mercury participate. Then learn that could purchse season tickets for $10/seat in the adjoining section which was all of 6 ft from where I was sitting. Brought four women college players to the game and they were disappointed by the sloppy play and were not at all impressed with the Mercury.
Diana Taurasi is an amazing player. Arguably the best in the WNBA. My only criticism of her is she needs to take the ball to the basket much more. All of the great NBA players know when the game is on the line you need to take it to the basket.
The seats were great. The atmosphere was more then you could ask for. The Mercury was spanking the heck out of the other team then just went into a complete meltdown. I think their momentum was lost during the constant distraction of the mini shows during the timeouts. Whomever is in charge of these promos should try to organize them to be longer when the other teams had the advantage and shorter when the home team has the upper hand. I love this team but if I wanted to see a team choke in the playoffs I'd go buy Suns tickets. Keep your chins up ladies you're one of the minority to have won a championship here in the valley. Enough said.
my 15 yr. old was going to have her friend come since i had 3 tickets. she couldn't go at the last min. so my 15 yr. old asked her 19 yr. old sister to go instead (she is a dancer ) doesn't know anything about basketball . she ended up having a better time then anyone there , i am hopefully trying to get season tickets next year . now my 19 yr. old wants to go whenever we go. the game didn't turn out the right way but still it is the best money you can spend. SEE YOU NEXT SEASON,
Phoenix Mercury seldom disappoint. The quality of basketball and entertainment is amazing when compared to the cost of tickets. I have been a season ticket holder and purchase additional tickets regularly for friends and family. If you have never been, give it a try, I doubt you will be diappointed. My husband and teenage boys love it!
Game was great, until the team choked it away with less than three minutes left. Very disappointed in the lack of effort to move their feet on defense and start relying on phantom calls from the referees to help decide the game. Put the ball in the bucket and hustle back to the other end of the floor. Great season, but a sour note to end on for Mercury fans.
These games are so much fun. My kids love sports but often get bored at other events. These are the only games they beg to stay unil the end.
It was our first Mercury game and we all enjoyed it. The energy was intense.
OMG WHAT A GAME HAD A GREAT TIME EVERY1 WAS GOING CRAZY CANT WAIT TO GO AGAIN
