Phoenix Mercury History

The Phoenix Mercury are a professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Founded in 1997, the Mercury are one of the league’s original eight franchises. The team reached their first Finals in 1998 and have made six total appearances, winning in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The Mercury’s legacy is marked by two major No. 1 picks: Diana Taurasi in 2004 and Brittney Griner in 2013. As members of the Mercury, Taurasi won the regular season MVP in 2009 and set multiple WNBA records, including most career points, most three-pointers and most field goals made, while Griner earned two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and broke several block records. Ahead of the 2025 season, Taurasi announced her retirement and the Mercury acquired five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas, who continues to hold the WNBA record for career triple-doubles.

  • What fun!

by Brik on 7/14/25PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

Mercury put on a great show. We went on Pride night and it was awesome. The Mercury played great even if they lost. Every employee we came across was so nice and made my son’s first Mercury game wonderful. Loved the $2 snack menu, but we didn’t get a Pride jersey. I wish they had more. We’d love to come back to another game.

A tremendous experience for my family of 4! Easy to get in and out of the arena and entertaining from beginning to end.

  • Great Experienc

by Ladyred on 7/2/25PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

I went to see the Aces play and was fortunate enough to sit by other Aces fans. It was a great atmosphere! I enjoyed the Pride Day festivities and even got to see a Miami Heat player and he let me take a selfie with him. My seat were not too far behind the Aces bench so I was excited about that!

  • Phoenix WNBA

by Papito on 7/2/25PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

During my trip I was went to couple WNBA games which was really exciting. I also went to a few restaurants. Lo-lo’s chicken and waffles was really good. The Brunch Snob was good as well. Had a good time and I would go back.

  • Very Exciting Game

by LeslieLife3.0 on 7/2/25PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

This WNBA game between the Mercury and Aces, was electrifying! The crowd was announced at 13,200. It was a close score the entire game. The crowd was really into it. Many fans traveled from Las Vegas. I love the arena and the location. We were able to easily park and find places to eat before and after the game. Had a great time!

  • Great Game vs. The Aces

by Kerk on 6/30/25PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

This was my granddaughter’s first W game. She really enjoyed it. Entrance into the stadium was quick and easy. We had great seats. We enjoyed all the activities between the time outs, especially the halftime act, The Dynamic Duo. I normally watch the games on tv, so I enjoy seeing the games in person. Wish I could afford season tickets, but glad I’m able to attend several games per year. Thoroughly enjoy the Mercury team and all the other teams in the W. The Mercury team has a lot of exciting players. However, there are so many other exciting players to follow. Personally, I think the W has the best athletes.

by Chauny on 5/21/25PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

The entertainment was high energy and kept me focused on the talent. The seat cup holders are in an awkward place. You are practically sitting on it.

  • Special merch for working folks

by Môr on 9/27/24Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 3 out of 5

There was not enough of the limited time merchandise. You need to take into consideration that people need to work for a living and can't get to the arena at 3pm. I understand the bobbleheads were gone in 5 minutes, but there weren't enough goat jerseys to purchase either. Only 300 ordered? And closing concessions an hour early made it feel like we were kicked out. I'm new to arena games and really loved the first one, but not sure about driving from the east valley if you have to be there early for the good stuff, including food and beverage

  • Amazing!

by DMO on 9/25/24Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

I love getting to see elite athletes perform at such a high level. The dancers were fantastic, the food/beverage lines weren't long, and the entertainment never stopped. Can't wait to be back for more games next season!

  • Great Fan Experience

by Al on 9/23/24Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

The Mercury do a great job of incorporating their fans into the gameday experience! The music, free swag, giveaways, dancers, etc., all make for a jam-packed event. Although I love going to see the Suns and Diamondbacks, the fan experience at Mercury games is far superior!

  • The Footprint Center - Mercury Basketball

Ticketmaster has a good way of delivering tickets at the box office or online. It does provide excellent service with train passes for getting to the event. It is easy to get in using the new ticket scanners and the service is Amazing. Ticketmaster is easy to use and is part of a very fun interactive story in downtown town Phoenix on Architecture and Social ideas it really puts users and fans of local entertainment In a seat to be responsible and not disappointed. I like Ticketmaster entertainment.
