Phoenix Mercury History

The Phoenix Mercury are a professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Founded in 1997, the Mercury are one of the league’s original eight franchises. The team reached their first Finals in 1998 and have made six total appearances, winning in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The Mercury’s legacy is marked by two major No. 1 picks: Diana Taurasi in 2004 and Brittney Griner in 2013. As members of the Mercury, Taurasi won the regular season MVP in 2009 and set multiple WNBA records, including most career points, most three-pointers and most field goals made, while Griner earned two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and broke several block records. Ahead of the 2025 season, Taurasi announced her retirement and the Mercury acquired five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas, who continues to hold the WNBA record for career triple-doubles.

The Phoenix Mercury are a fantastic basketball team with one of the best fanbases in the WNBA. If you haven't gone to a Mercury game you are missing one of the best family friendly sporting events in the Valley. We are so fortunate to have such a high caliber professional women's team in Phoenix. The ticket prices are reasonable, there are always pricing specials, and it is great entertainment. Plus, the Mercury are prolific winners. I'd highly recommend going to a Mercury game, you'll have a blast!

  • Great game poor seats

by 1Brwnsugar on 8/17/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

Seats were awful! Paid a lot of money for 3 seats 2 rows away from Mercury bench and could NOT see the game without bobbing and weaving due to the same level seating 3ft I front of us. So be aware of seats section 101 row AA seats 14,15 and16.

Just moved to the area and attended my first, then second and soon third WNBA game. The Mercury is amazing and the games are so much fun, even if you aren’t a huge sports fan!

  • Mercury Rocked the House

by Alioop222 on 8/13/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

It was such an exciting game. I was with my husband and two grown children, which made it even more special. Love the venue, seats could have flexible arms that will flip up for larger customers.

  • Mercury got cheated

by desertgolfer55 on 7/24/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

The Phoenix Mercury had to beat two staffs at this game The Refs And the Lynx,The call on Dianna T. was sooo stupid and then a Tech on top of that to get her thrown out of the game...we have very good seats and this team is a joy to go and watch...too bad that the local sports media does not promote this team much better after all they have won several championships as opposed to the N.B.A. team that plays in the same building or the hockey team across town or even the Football teams that play here locally

Too loud... ear plugs were not even enough to be comfortable to stay. I had to leave early in game

  • We had a great time.

by SweetLailaBug on 7/24/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

My 9 year old daughter loved it, especially the train around the court and there was an after-party. Only recommendation is get there early because there was a baseball game next door that was going on at the same time, so parking was crowded. We took the train which was free with our tickets.

  • Loved the atmosphere

by spreadtheheinz on 7/2/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first professional women"s basketball game! I really enjoyed the game. Regretfully, the mercury didn't bring their "A" game this night. Although, the game got very exciting when they closed the gap to 8 points. But in the end it was too little too late. But because the game was exciting i will be attending 2 games this month. Looking forward to seeing the Mercury again!

  • Mercury Game

by LBan on 6/19/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

We are frequent fans who support the Phoenix Mercury regularly. Although we do not have season tickets, we purchase tickets for individual games as we can afford. We usually bring other firends and family with us, as well. My parents (who are almost 80) attended the game on Saturday night and my mom was unable to understand a word being spoken from anyone using the microphones or sound system. I thought initially that it must be her "age" and her hearing ability but then I realized that I just wasn't really listening anymore and I tried to then pay attention. The acoustics in Talking Stick Arena are really, really bad! Even the interview with Ann and the professional figure skater was hard to understand at times. We were in Section 111 in Row 26. I cannot imagine acoustically what it would have been like in the upper levels. I am not sure if it was the equipment, the acoustics of the building, the speed of which people talk........but it was very aggravating. Even the video cameos were very hard to understand and hear that were being played.......

  • Fun

Always a fun time watching the Mercury, hip hop squad and the time out and halftime activities.

  • Phoenix Mercury

by bcphx on 5/26/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

As always, attending a Mercury game, sitting center court for a reasonable price, was fun. This was their third game of the season and their first loss. A win would have been nicer. :)

  • The XFactor experience is real!

by Katana73 on 5/22/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

I was so excited to experience the season & home opening game for the Mercury. Seeing Griner & DT in person was so worth the trip. I was specifically in town for the game and it did not disappoint. Glad to be among such an awesome fan base!

  • The seating was amazing.

by myselffirst on 5/21/18Talking Stick Resort Arena - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

These were exciting seating arrangements. We were able to watch the game and the audience all at the same time. We enjoy people watching, and the game was very lively.
