Pop-rock musician Phillip Phillips wowed “American Idol” fans and judges in season 11 with spot-on covers of iconic songs including Steve Wonder’s “Superstition”, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, and Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle”. Phillips’ scratchy vocals, reminiscent of his own idol Dave Matthews, are exemplified in his chart-topping debut single “Home” as well as sweet, mellow tracks like “So Easy”. His platinum-selling first album The World from the Side of the Moon includes the upbeat love song “Gone, Gone, Gone”, which is sure to be a wedding song for Phillips fans for years to come. The Georgia-born singer/songwriter wound up taking home the title of American Idol, but only after dealing with congenital kidney issues that landed him in the hospital for eight surgeries during the “Idol” season. Phillips recovered in time for the “American Idol LIVE Tour”, performing major-market concerts alongside the season’s nine other top contestants. The 46-city trek sold more than a quarter of a million tickets overall, placing it at No. 62 in the Top 200 North American tours of 2012.

Was there to see Gavin DeGraw and he was amazing!! Phillip Phillips was good too!
Went to see Phillips since had seen him last year at Stone Pony and he was excellent. Last time he played a lot of acoustic - this time he attempted large band rock. Horrible - we left early as did a lot of other people even though show due to end 10pm.. Try winning American Idol with that music. Was not familiar with DeGraw but he was very good.
Arrived before the expected beginning at 5:15 to a two plus block long line to get in. Concert was advertised as being at 5:30. Expected seats instead had to stand. We were going to leave but a security guard suggested that we go inside where it was airconditioned with music and relax. Philip's was to start his performance at 8:00 PM. waited until after 8 and stayed a bout 30 minutes to listen to songs that I didn't know and were not what I had expected. We left and left The Stone Pony for good. Very disappointing to my wife and I although there were thousands who seemed to be having a great time!
Great show, PP & his band were fabulous. Gifted & Talented
Noticed several technical issues with the performers' mics and speakers.
Great band , new album is awesome. Loved his Aerosmith cover of Sweet Emotion
Venue had a very stuffy tone to it, however, the backdrop of boats and the bay is gorgeous. All seats are floor level and we had a group of drunk ladies acting disrespectful to the tall people in front of them. Phillip Phillips was super musically but needs to work on interpersonal skills in order to connect with the audience more. Gavin DeGraw was a bit too mellow for my taste. There was very little cultural diversity in the audience.
Great show! A wide variety of genres, his own style. Lots of fun. Not afraid to be goofy. My second time seeing him, going again when he's nearby.
My aunt and I loved it great performances. Would recommend these two acts we loved them❤️.
I attended the Philip Phillips / Gavin Degraw performance on 8/16/18. Dinner was great, grabbed a special vintners select bottle of Pinot Noir. Here's the odd thing. First act went way long. Way too long in fact. Why is that? Top billing was Philip Phillips, yet he got shorted into a tiny time slot late in the evening with drunk concert goers headed home in the middle or before his performance. I don't understand why this was the case. Can the venue respond?
We have never seen Gavin DeGraw, but he was amazing! I would see him again! We were super disappointed with Phillip Phillips. It was obvious both singers were having issues with their ear mics, but Gavin still put on an amazing show. Phillip was obviously upset and walked off the stage at the end. There was no encore, and he left the crowd feeling like the show was unfinished. I would never pay to see him again. Five stars for Gavin, but 1 for Phillip.
Gavin McGraw was great. I had never heard of him before. Engaging and for the most part very entertaining. Phillips Phillips was disappointing. Only has 3 engaging songs. Did not acknowledge was in Reno. But did come into audience. More interested in showing off his instrument playing chops. And if I hear nah nah nah one more time it will be overkill. Can’t he write or find real lyrics? Venue problem is one couple standing all the time blocking the view. For old farts standing two hours is not in the cards. Not stadium seating. Got the couple to sit down. They were gracious. But then inexplicably PHILLIPS tells them to stand. No consideration for the seated audience. His ego came through.
Gavin was amazing as an opener, he played in a 3 man band. Philips Philips closed it off in a 5 man band. Gavin did so good and performed so many songs and got involved with the crowd. Philips Philips was technical on his numerous guitars but didn’t perform that many songs. He should have, was bummed he didn’t. Ended too early, but definitely both were spectacular singers doing everything live no doubt.
Wente is a beautiful place and lovely venue. However, this concert was not great. Gavin Degraw was great and he was engaging. I can't say the same for Phillip Phillips. Low energy and not much music.
Me and my daughter have always liked Philip Phillips since he appeared in AI. This chance to see him close to home was the best thing! Wonderful concert with Gavin DeGraw and Wente made it all perfect! The garden with all the tables, friendly staff, delicious dinner and new people to meet sharing your table. We definitely will be checking out for more concerts and events at Wente! Thank you for the awesome evening!
His songs stand alone, they don’t need s big band to drown out his voice. Wanted to her more of Phillip alone. Even the song, Gone,Gone ..would have been more enjoyable if he sang it alone so I could hear his voice and feel more of his emotion. The music jamming was great at times don’t get me wrong but everyone sitting around me stated that they were disappointed that they didn’t hear more of his voice alone. There was only one song at the end that he came out after the end to sing alone with his guitar. We all wanted to hear more of that so we left feeling let down. I’m going to see you in Bensalem and the Mount Airey concerts. Please, please sing more songs alone because we really love to hear just you!!!!
Fantastic show. He's a great performer. Love seeing shows at the Beacon.
However, wish I had known there was an opening act. I would have arrived later so as not to be away from our dogs for way longer than necessary.
I wish I could see it all over again! I have a new found love for Phillip Phillips!
