PETER MURPHY IN CONCERT:

Post-punk legend and godfather of goth Peter Murphy has been an emblem of dark romance ever since his debut with Bauhaus in 1978. As frontman of the legendary group Murphy made a name for himself with his spooky baritone voice and macabre theatrics, and he remains a spellbinding performer more than three decades later. Whether he's mesmerizing with Bauhaus classics like "God in an Alcove" and "Bela Lugosi's Dead" or treating fans to favorites from his solo career, Murphy never fails to bring chills on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Peter Murphy got his start as a singer with Northampton, UK-based post-punk outfit Bauhaus, which he was asked to join in 1978 because the band liked his look. The group made their debut in 1979 with the single "Bela Lugosi's Dead", a nine-minute slice of dirge rock that stayed on the British independent charts for two years and served as the launching point for the goth rock movement. After a successful run that landed them four LPs on the UK Albums Chart, Bauhaus called it quits in 1983, allowing Murphy to pursue a variety of other projects. His biggest post-Bauhaus success came as a solo artist with '90s hits like "Cuts You Up" and "A Strange Kind of Love". In 20142 Murphy released his ninth studio album Lion to rave reviews, and he continues to treat fans to career-spanning sets on his legendary tours.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Murphy has not lost it one bit, his voice and stage presence is amazing as always and the decades of fans there enjoyed every minute."

"Another great show! Peter only gets better with age, played one of my favorite song from his solo career "A Strange Kind of Love".

"This was a great night for Bauhaus fans! So much music. He played for a very long time and looked and sounded great. I saw the last Bauhaus reunion show. . .this was just as good!"

Having seen Peter perform many times over the years, at least 12+, it has become apparent that the old fire is gone and Peter is, at least for now, just going through the motions. His voice is still amazing and I can honestly say, his past shows are some of the best I've ever seen, making his current lack of enthusiasm all the more disheartening. Here's hoping he finds the passion again...though I don't if I'll be there to see it.

    Absolutely mesmerizing

by Spicyseraph on 7/29/13The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

As expected, it was amazing to listen once again to one of the most representative pillars of the Goth movement singing a full Bauhaus set, Dark Matters always rule.

    Peter Murphy doesn't disappoint

by fblack5 on 7/28/13The Fillmore - San Francisco

After seeing Peter do solo shows for so many years, I was wondering how he and his band would handle a full set of Bauhaus classics. They did not disappoint me. Peter Murphy is an outstanding performer, engaging the crowd with humorous banter on occasion. The band he's been playing with didn't let down either, ripping through the Bauhaus set impressively. Sensing the house hadn't had enough, Peter and the band came out for two solid encores before leaving us all completely satisfied. The 2013 live renditions of classics like the "Ziggy Stardust" cover, "Bela Lugosi's Dead", "The Passion of Lovers", and "In the Flat Field" were just as entertaining as ever.

Fantastic show, Murphy is full of energy

by Unseelie on 7/26/13The Fillmore - San Francisco

Other than some mic issue with the first song, the show was fantastic. It looked like the sound people weren't aware that Murphy is constantly moving the mic towards and away from his mouth to get a specific sound, so there was that issue wth the first song. By the time the second song was up, it had been resolved. The floor was full, people were happy, and he performed all of my favorite Bauhaus songs. I'm so glad I didn't miss this one.

    Peter Murphy is RESPLENDENT!

by Supergena on 7/26/13The Fillmore - San Francisco

This was a great night for Bauhaus fans! SO much music. He played for a very long time and looked and sounded great. I have seen Peter Murphy several times. I saw the last Bauhaus Reunion show. . .this was just as good! Pros: Peter was very interactive and fun. He spoke to the crowd a lot. Hammed it up for cameras and reached into the crowd several times. He was very connected to the audience. The poster--Peter Murphy HATED it, the crowd, and I, LOVED it! If this graphic was on the shirts sold at the merch table --they would have sold out. I am framing mine. Peter, this is what your fans are into. Murphy's backing band is amazing. Cheb i Shabbah was a perfect opener! ("Ours," not so much. . .) Cons: The FIllmore shows I have been to always seem to have sound problems. Peter Murphy was constantly indicating that they needed to adjust the levels--kind of annoying. The lights started dark and moody and then got WAY too bright. . .blown out even. It was hard to see his face at times. (But I liked the cool light stick thing!) "Ours," a competent band, was just not the right choice for opener. I felt kind of bad for them. . .but I am not into cliche Alt Rock, and neither were the people standing around me. An AWKWARD set. Finally, I know it was a Bauhaus show but I really wanted "Indigo Eyes" or something off his solo albums for the encore. But who am I to say? I am just being greedy.

Great show if only the crowd would shut up

by KJD1035 on 5/20/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

It never ceases to amaze me how rude people can be at a concert. I get wanting to sing along, or applauding, or yelling out when a song comes on that you love. I do not understand people who go to a show only to turn their back on the performer and talk (loudly!) to their friends. This show would have been terrific but the people by the bar were chatting it up like a juke box was playing. Rude! Peter Murphy, however, continues to impress with his vocals and utter coolness.

Once in a lifetime opty to see Peter Murphy.

by Vingt3 on 5/19/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Peter Murphy sang only Bauhaus songs on his current world tour. I attended his last show at the House of Blues, Chicago. The venue is a great size. Small enough for everyone to be able to see the stage clearly. He has tremendous energy and his voice is in great shape. He absolutely commands the stage. There were glimpses of the old PM moves. He used a flashlight on himself. This time he brought his own. When I saw him back in the 80's I donated my own flashlight to him because I was hugging the stage at Metro. One of my all time favorite songs 'Spirit' was played, but without the strings and that is really pivotal to the song, so I was disappointed with just one song. The audience got to enjoy some tracks from Peter's upcoming album. After the show my group and I got to meet him. He was very charming and personable. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic evening! Special thanks to the manager at House of Blues for the accommodations.

    As always...excellent

by LMS60014 on 5/18/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

If you're a Bauhaus fan, you would thoroughly enjoy Peter's performance celebrating 35 Years Bauhaus' music. Bauhaus originals rocked the house, including a blistering "Stigmata Martyr" and the rare live "Spirit" and "Boys". He followed up with Bauhaus' covers of "Telegram Sam" and "Ziggy Stardust". The audience was breathless - what a great show!

    Peter Murphy is a Diva...

by DJSlammin on 5/17/13Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

We had been anticipating this concert for awhile, so we bought VIP tickets. Since the VIP meet and greet was before the concert and during the work week we couldn't go wrong. First off we were 15 minutes late or so we thought. We were actually an 1hr. and 15 minutes early! We he finally came on at 9:30 we were really disappointed . Plus to be able to see him for my wife can't stand long period of time we paid to sit in the riser table area. No they charged us extra for that. We couldn't stay for the meet and greet because was scheduled for after the concert. Couldn't get our posters they had no tour dates on them anyway unlike the ones that were for sale. Then to add insult to injury he said we could have our shirts, not choice of ones for sale but VIP ones. Sorry only sizes we have are XL & XXL. My wife wears a small t-shirt again no tour dates on shirts. This was totally unacceptable!!!!!!

    AMAZING

by gothiclyinclined on 5/10/13Webster Hall - New York

It could have been 1980 if it weren't for all the iPhones in the crowd. Peter hasn't aged a day and sounds just as great live as he does in his recordings. It was my first time seeing him live but I'd go to see him again in a heartbeat!

opening band LOUDBOY and PETER MURPHY ROCKED!

by Nasejje on 5/9/13Webster Hall - New York

What a fantastic show. I was originally a bit sad that the rest of the original band wasn't there. But Peter did not disappoint and put on an incredible show--performing for a solid 90 minutes, bravo! Concerts nowadays, with newer artists seem to barely hit the one hour mark. I was glad I made it out. And the opening band LOUDBOY, they were riveting. All in all, an unforgettable experience.

The show was phenomenal ! Great crowd! The opening bands Loudboy and OUR were very cool. We were up front to the right of the stage so we got some great pics of all the bands. Peter was wonderful. The feeling was that of an intimate venue. Very pleased:)
