PETER MURPHY IN CONCERT:

Post-punk legend and godfather of goth Peter Murphy has been an emblem of dark romance ever since his debut with Bauhaus in 1978. As frontman of the legendary group Murphy made a name for himself with his spooky baritone voice and macabre theatrics, and he remains a spellbinding performer more than three decades later. Whether he's mesmerizing with Bauhaus classics like "God in an Alcove" and "Bela Lugosi's Dead" or treating fans to favorites from his solo career, Murphy never fails to bring chills on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Peter Murphy got his start as a singer with Northampton, UK-based post-punk outfit Bauhaus, which he was asked to join in 1978 because the band liked his look. The group made their debut in 1979 with the single "Bela Lugosi's Dead", a nine-minute slice of dirge rock that stayed on the British independent charts for two years and served as the launching point for the goth rock movement. After a successful run that landed them four LPs on the UK Albums Chart, Bauhaus called it quits in 1983, allowing Murphy to pursue a variety of other projects. His biggest post-Bauhaus success came as a solo artist with '90s hits like "Cuts You Up" and "A Strange Kind of Love". In 20142 Murphy released his ninth studio album Lion to rave reviews, and he continues to treat fans to career-spanning sets on his legendary tours.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Murphy has not lost it one bit, his voice and stage presence is amazing as always and the decades of fans there enjoyed every minute."

"Another great show! Peter only gets better with age, played one of my favorite song from his solo career "A Strange Kind of Love".

"This was a great night for Bauhaus fans! So much music. He played for a very long time and looked and sounded great. I saw the last Bauhaus reunion show. . .this was just as good!"

Peter Murphy at the House of Blues - Sunset

by concertphan on 7/14/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

The show was great. As always, Peter is in such command while on stage. His vocals are still powerful and his set list was amazing. He played songs of old and new. He even pulled out a few Bauhaus tracks for us as well. It's a must see show when he comes to your town.

    He still worth it.

by kostela on 7/14/09The Canyon - Agoura Hills

He still got it. Hes voice is still clear and deep like his albums, looks like and sounds like its easy for him to reach this deep voice on stage. He sang classical's like Bella Lugosi, Cuts you up, Shes in parties and A strange kind of love. This one one watch out can bring you to tears. The band was pretty good and there was one thing that you don't hear usually in rock concerts, Peter played a playback of the synthesizers/ keyboard part of the songs so it add a lot to the show. Go to see him he is still worth it.

    Enchanting as always!

by TrixZ on 7/14/09Showcase Live - Foxboro

Although dressed down (he was in jeans!), Peter Murphy's performance was nothing less than refined and rich. His intimate gazes into the audience are enchanting. He began the first set with new material, which was quite different from Unshattered. The highlight of which was his version of Bowie's "Space Oddity". The next set included old favorites, the hightlight including his acoustically moving "Strange Kind of Love" with Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" woven in. Gave me chills! He also played Bauhaus' "She's In Parties", a few other Peter Murphy favorites and some new material (e.g. "Instant Karma" which is only okay in my opinion, but it did get the audience to "liven up"!) He could be 80 and I will still be seeing him live. As long as he does this, I'm there!!

    Great Peter Murphy concert!

by PDXmom on 7/13/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

I can't decide if it's bad or good that Peter's following is so small in Portland. It was good for us that not many people were there, because we got great seats, and he played to the audience like a living room gathering. This was an intimate show, with conversation and interaction, not to mention really great music - some of which has underpinned the psyches of most of the members of the audience for more than 20 years. On the other hand, Peter is phenomenal, and it makes me sad that this was not a sold-out show at the Rose Garden. The new generation needs to get some of his poetry tumbling around in their emotional make-up. What would have made it amazing? If he had performed Cascade. And if he had stayed onstage just 20 minutes longer. It went far too fast for me.

    Peter Murphy Was Incredible!!!!

by Rekroy on 7/13/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

The concert was excellent. Peter was very personable, up close and as always into his music. He spent time talking to the audience which added to the special aspect of the concert. We are excited for the release of his new album. Guitar, Base and Percussion were awesome. The group really works well together and the combination of talent, creativity, and presentation were second to none. Keep it up guys... and don't forget Portland anytime you come to the U.S.

    Peter Murphy PDX

by JDisco on 7/13/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Peter is such a wonderful performer and artist. Second time I have had the pleasure of seeing him live. He did pretty good. Had more crowd interaction then the last time I saw him , but it came at the cost of the music. He did a number of covers that were good.. Some NIN some Bauhaus.. but I would have like to have heard more PM classics

    Always a dark artist

by TankgirlyC on 7/12/09Showcase Live - Foxboro

A small venue like this one is always good for Peter Murphy. While on tour with Bauhaus in 05, the Orpheum was great as they were high energy (as much as a goth band can be) For Peter on tour by himself, this enabled an intimate setting for his intimate songs. He did seem a back lackluster on his energy level, but that didnt come through in his voice, just his movements and emotion through his body.

    Peter Murphy was amazing

by Innara on 7/11/09Showcase Live - Foxboro

I had never seen Peter perform before. My boyfriend had seen him with Bauhaus and solo, and was worried about what I would think of the show. We got to Showcase Live with time to get up close to the stage. The sound for the vocals for the first 3 songs was either not great from our proximity, or we just didn't know the new material. Peter was high energy for such a tiny stage. And once the sound was tweaked, his voice was more soaring and amazing and angelic than on CD. The band was great. Every song from "I'll Fall With Your Knife" (my favorite) to the mash up of "Strange Kind of Love" and "Bela Lugosi is Dead" to his cover of "Instant Karma" was perfect. When Peter did "Space Oddity" I wish the audience would have been quiet. Peter's version makes Bowie (whom I've been a fan of since I was a little girl, and I've only been a fan of Peter's for 7 months) sound like one of the fools they make fun of during the American Idol auditions.

It's no secret - Peter Murphy is a Rock God!

by Smpltn on 7/10/09Showcase Live - Foxboro

Peter Murphy's performance at Showcase Live in Foxboro, MA on July 9, 2009 was nothing short of perfection. Opening with 3 new Bauhaus songs, and then performing favorites from his solo career, he also included brilliant cover versions of songs by John Lennon, David Bowie, and Joy Division, along with early Bauhaus songs. Murphy's amazing vocal ability is strong as ever and has lost none of it's range - incredible for a man now in his fifties. His new band(of the last 5 years) is a guitar, bass, and drums line-up of very talented and extremely tight musicians who deserve to be credited by name - unfortunately their names escape me at the moment. I would have to rate the show in my Top 3 of all time, with part of the credit going to Showcase Live for being a fantastic venue, and the great crowd who really let Peter Murphy and his band know just how awesome their performance was. If you have the opportunity to see Peter Murphy - go to the show.

    Murphy Still Has it

by IndigoEyez on 7/10/09Showcase Live - Foxboro

Peter Murphy treated the crowd at Showcase Live to an unforgetable evening. Playing songs from his forthcoming album, Bauhaus classics and tossing in some covers, the frontman electrified the faithful with an energy filled show. Murphy quipped, "This isn't a very iconical song" before ripping into John Lennon's Instant Karma t he crowd responding in kind with "We all shine on". Murphy's band was tight and full bore. His voice sounded no different from his Bauhaus days, lets just call it the Voice of Dorian Gray? The hit of the evening? Murphy solo on the keyboards and melodica to cover David Bowie's Space Oddity. Ever the technology fiend, Muprhy's use of loops throughout the show was pure genius.

    Peter Murphy a true artist

by Ageonat on 7/10/09Showcase Live - Foxboro

Peter Murphy put on a good show though it wasn't as good as the last time I had seen him in 2008 at the Axis in Boston where he played more songs and was a little more personable. Still, all things said, it was a show worth seeing and Peter is a true artist.

    Peter Murphy Rocks!

by psychomom on 7/10/09Showcase Live - Foxboro

Peter and his band were absolutely brilliant! Did a nice mix of new/old stuff, with a couple of Bauhaus songs thrown in. Nice, small venue lent an intimate feeling to the night. Best show I've seen in a LONG time!

    The Gothfather still rocks!

by Lorfer on 7/10/09Chameleon Club - Lancaster

Great show in a small intimate venue. Peter interacted with the crowd and the encore was fantastic with "The Passion of Lovers" and "Transmission" leaving the crowd enthused and wanting more.

    Peter Murphy in top form!

    by alex2ptd on 7/9/09Chameleon Club - Lancaster

Peter Murphy put on a great show as usual. I've seen him once with Bauhaus and now twice as a solo artist. He previewed many new songs mixed in with some older solo and Bauhaus stuff. This being the "Secret Covers" tour, there were also several great covers.

    Fantastic night!

by Skola on 7/9/09Chameleon Club - Lancaster

The DJs were spot on, Ego Likeness was an amazing act that really got the crowd going, and then Peter Murphy did a long set with a lot of classic favorites. The venue was comfortable, parking was easy, the staff were friendly and professional. I would gladly come out to another event like this.
