PETER HOOK AND THE LIGHT IN CONCERT:

Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook carries on the legacy of those legendary bands in 2014 with the Light, thrilling fans with end-to-end performances of seminal albums from their collective discography. Whether tearing through New Order's Power, Corruption, and Lies or ruminating on Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures,  Hook and the Light are never short on energy, sating fans with epic three hour sets of classics like "Age of Consent" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart." The band impressed even the staunchest New Order loyalists on tour in 2013, building excitement for another round of North American dates in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Manchester, England, Peter Hook formed Joy Division with Bernard Sumner in the late '70s after the two were inspired by the anyone-can-do-it ethos of a Sex Pistols concert they attended. After several epochal post-punk releases, frontman Ian Singer committed suicide, leaving the rest of the band to press on as New Order. With former guitarist/keyboardist Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. In 2010, Hook put together the Light, continuing to thrill fans with end-to-end performances of classic albums from the Joy Division/New Order discography.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Great night out for Joy Division and New Order fans -- Peter Hook is having a lot of fun and so is the crowd."

"Peter Hook is the man!! He still has not slowed down at his age, three hour show and it was amazing!"

"... I knew that they would be playing two of New Order's albums: Power, Corruption and Lies and Movement, but the big surprise came when they opened up w/ a set from Joy Division, it was so awesome!"

  • Peter Hook - history in the making

    by Zuggycity123 on 11/14/14Irving Plaza - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

3 hours of flight into the past realm of Joy Division and old New Order. He did not disappoint Surprised me when he played the dancy stuff. The place was shaking and moshing like a punk gig. Love Irving Plaza - it's like a baby version of the old Ritz.

  • One of the best shows I've seen

by Martmart2000 on 11/14/14The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

When I purchased my tickets to see Hooky, at 20 buck or so, I thought "Oh well, at least I'll be in the venue". It was my first time at the Music Hall and I figured that a rafter or something would block my view for 20 bucks. But no... at 7:30 I entered the hall. I was amazed. I felt like I was in Manchester in 1978 and Joy Division was going to come on stage. I was at the equivalent of the 4th row. That in itself was Worth more than 20 bucks. But then,Peter Hook came on stage and started the bass line for "24 Hours". It's impossible to put that into words. And the songs kept on coming. More than 3 hours of music, more than 30 songs from a time when music was still music. Need I say more??

  • Peter Hook and the Light was fantastic!

by Juneless on 11/12/14Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing band! For the first 25 minutes I felt like I was seeing Joy Division and it brought tears to my eyes. I have been to over 150 concerts in my lifetime and this was the best 25 minute stretch of songs that I have ever seen performed. I am not the biggest New Order fan. They played over two hours of New Order and did it very well. I wish there was more Joy Division and less New Order. How could they not play "Love Will Tear Us Apart" or "She's Lost Control?"

  • Peter Hook was on!

by DougSinBoston on 11/11/14Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Peter Hook played an early show at the Royale in Boston, first set was older material, he had a full back up back so he could play when he wanted or just sing. The Joy Division material was great to hear and the sound system and levels were good. Second set was some New order material and other newer material, all great. It was a treat to be able to dance to the music that is so familiar and loved.

  • Awesome

    by Octopus52 on 11/11/14Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

He gave it his all. Joy Division for over an hour, then New Order material for over 2! Played for a total of 4 hours!! Covered a lot of songs. Amazing band with him, including his own son! I swear it was 1987 again...in the best way possible!

  • Better than originals.

by Hookybass on 11/11/14Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third time I've seen Hooky and the Light and he keeps getting better. Blown away by how tight the band is as well as how much fun there were having. I have seen New Order with Hooky as well, but I prefer it this way due to a much higher energy level. A must see. At a boy Hooky.

  • Peter Hook is the sound of New Order!

by albengz on 11/10/14Irving Plaza - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Peter Hook and the Light played a Joy Division set along with the entire Low Life and Brotherhood albums. It was a rare opportunity to hear some old favorites and obscure songs that aren't played on regular New Order tours. The songs hold up and hearing Peter Hook's high bass melodies shows that Hooky was responsible for New Order's distinct sound. Charming guy and great with the audience, but the music was incredible.

  • Great show!!

I really enjoyed the show!! It was great to see them play the old tunes.

  • Hook never disapoints...

by Tigerbabysob on 11/10/14Irving Plaza - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I will always love Peter for not having an opening band and playing the set himself and doing all Joy Division. This is the second time he has come to NYC to play New Order shows but opened with Joy Division sets. The set containing New Order albums "Lowlife" and "Brotherhood" were great, stellar band... Looking forward to the next two albums...

  • Hooky is an amazing bassist

    by 80salternativeguy on 11/10/14Irving Plaza - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic show in NYC. Peter Hook and the Light played about 3 hours, which is so rare these days. Joy Division and New Order. Incredible set list. One negative comment - Hooky needs to sing fewer songs and let the guitarist sing instead. Hooky can handle the vocals on most Joy Division songs, but should defer on most New Order songs. He is still the premier alternative rock bass player in the world.

  • Loved hearing these tunes...

by edouglasww on 11/10/14Irving Plaza - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

and the band played for nearly three hours including all of Brotherhood and Low Life as well as a bunch of other great songs. Peter Hook's band is absolutely terrific at recreating the songs, but the weakest link is Hook himself as his gravelly voice just isn't strong enough to get above the music and it's noticeable enough to really kill my enjoyment of the show. I was pretty tired this night so I didn't even stay for the encores but I kind of wish that the sound mixer did something to help boost Hook's voice since it was pretty much lost in the mix and the lyrics are pretty important for New Order/Joy Division. Still, it was a pretty decent show for the fans... New Order were never that much better when they played live and at least The Light seem to generally enjoy playing live (which I never got the impression New Order did)

Why leave the stage 3 or 4 times?? It took a lot to start, then had too many stops between one album and another.

  • The Reincarnation of Ian Curtis

by Anonymous on 9/26/13The Fonda Theatre - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

It was like watching Joy DIvision in their prime. And a New Order concert to boot. Little Hooky is a bass player in his own right. I never truly realized the importance of Peter Hook to the sound of Joy Division and New Order until seeing and hearing it isolated like that with the focus on the sound of the bass. Incredible. A must for all New Order and Joy DIvision fans. How else will you be able to hear Joy Division properly?

  • Awesome concert!

by DeeDeeker on 9/24/13The Fonda Theatre - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Big band, small arena; how much more awesome can it get! Peter Hook was as good live in '13 as he ever was in the 80's. Lost my voice screaming, totally worth it. Better than expected, already waiting for the encore, HINT!

  • Peter Hook and the Light were amazing!!

by Julsdel on 9/24/13The Fonda Theatre - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I went to the show expecting it to be very good, I knew that they would be playing two of New Order's albums: Power,Corruption and Lies and Movement but the big suprize came when they opened up w/ a set from Joy Division it was so awesome! I have no words to really express how pleased I was with this show it was everything and more than I ever expected. If PHTL ever come back to LA I'm so gonna be there he's an amazing Artist with so much love for the music and for the fans. Easily one of the best shows I've EVER seen!!!

  • Off the Hook

    by Guz0 on 9/24/13The Fonda Theatre - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

This show kicked major Ass. It was like I was transported back in time to a Joy Division show. If you got their early you got to see some Joy Division tunes which was a bonus. The overall concert was great. It. It felt like watching a play since the curtains were drawn as though they were ACTS. Great show they played for about 3 hours of great music from Joy Division to New Order. Don't miss out next time he is in town I know I won't.
