Peter Frampton on Tour

With the Peter Frampton Finale: The Farewell Tour, an iconic figure in rock takes the stage for one last round in 2019. Commencing June 18 in Tulsa and ending October 12 in San Francisco, the tour follows the singer and guitarist's announcement of his retirement due to his battle with inclusion body myositis (IBM), a progressive muscle disorder.

It makes for a poignant occasion for any fan whose life has been touched by Frampton's songs in the five decades since the singer and guitarist first earned renown as the teenage frontman for Humble Pie and became one of the biggest sensations of the 1970s.

The evening will be a celebration first and foremost. The music legend always has been warm and engaging in signature songs like "Baby, I Love Your Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do," and he wouldn't have it any other way. For the new tour, Frampton performs alongside his longtime bandmates Rob Arthur (keys, guitar, vocals), Steve Mackey (bass), Adam Lester (guitar), and Dan Wojciechowski (drums).

Peter Frampton Background

From co-founding one of rock's first supergroups while still a teenager to releasing the most famous live album of all time, Peter Frampton has had many milestones in a career that began in the London borough of Bromley in the early ‘60s. Inspired by heroes like Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran, the young guitarist began his musical pursuits as an adolescent alongside David Bowie, an older classmate who became his lifelong friend.

By the time he was 16, Frampton was having his first hits with The Herd. When only 18, he co-founded Humble Pie with Steve Marriott of Small Faces and Spooky Tooth's Greg Ridley. The group's mix of hard rock and progressive styles made them a pioneer of heavy metal.

After going solo in 1971, Frampton toured tirelessly in the U.S. His efforts paid off in 1976, when Frampton Comes Alive! became a phenomenon. Topping the Billboard charts for 10 weeks, it sold eight million copies and spawned three smashes in "Baby, I Love Your Way," "Show Me the Way," and "Do You Feel Like We Do."

Later career highlights included playing guitar on David Bowie's Glass Spider tour, winning a Grammy in 2007 for Best Pop Instrumental Album, and touring with a who's who of other six-string heroes as Frampton's Guitar Circus in 2013. Released in 2016, Acoustic Classics featured new performances of many of his best-known songs, including a few favorites from Frampton Comes Alive!

    Peter Frampton-guitar wizard

by keeniebean on 8/16/09Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

Amazing concert, greatest guitar player in the world. He had the audience on their feet most of the time. Fun to hear the old recordings and also had some new stuff. He was amazing and so was his band. Would go again in a minute.

Frampton is more alive than ever

by doncarlos on 8/16/09Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

Framptons sizzling guitar solos and heavy chording on his array of Les Pauls among others made me think I was at a Robin Trower show. The classics were as good as ever, and the new material really rocks. Can't wait for the unreleased material he played to hit the shelves. His signature voice synthesizer, along with some great dueling with the keyboardist got the crowd on their feet. Having played all his big hits during the show I couldn't figure out what the encore could be. He blew me away with an incredible version of "while my guitar gently weeps." The Gin Blossoms opened the show in fine form, Biff the vocalist held the crowds attention with his forays into the audience. The set was pretty much flawless as they presented all their hits plus some as yet unreleased material.

    Unbelievable....

by FramptonFan on 8/16/09Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

I knew he was good, but I had no idea that Peter Frampton was such a complete virtuoso on the guitar. Hands down, one of the best shows I have seen in a long, long time. And I've seen Clapton, The Who, and many, many others. What an awesome night!

What an incredible show! Frampton is extraordinarily talented and seems better than ever. He had Iowa on their feet screaming for more! Has to be one of the most talented guitar players ever! Go see him if you get the opportunity - you will not be disappointed.

    Frampton Comes Alive

by BurtonHall on 8/16/09Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

I really underestimated Frampton’s gravitas and skills. He was as good a guitar player as I’ve ever seen. He had wonderful presence. I feel like I witnessed a great one. He was fresh and sounded like he was in the peak of his career. Don’t know how you do that as a 59 year old rocker? That is a rare event. He would simply riff with the 2nd guitar player and the keyboard player and the effect was mesmerizing. He did an encore of “My guitar gently weeps" that brought the house down. Gin Blossoms only played 45 minutes, but a really good band. Made me wonder why they didn’t do more in their career. Hey Jealousy was very tight.

    EXCELLENT SHOW

by dutch157 on 8/16/09Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

Not much of a Gin Bloosom fan but they were great on stage. As for Mr. Peter Frampton what an excellent show. His hits from the 70's made it sound like you went back in time. Both his voice and gituar skills were perfect. All the songs were classic Frampton including one they haven't recorded yet. Very few can match his skills on the gutiar. The IOWA STATE FAIR is a great place to see an outdoor concert......it ROCKED.

    Frampton Rocked!

by Cloverweiss on 8/16/09Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

We took our 3 children (17, 15, and 10) to this concert. All 3 children were initially apathetic about attendance. The Gin Blossoms began with a solid and stimulating performance. What a GREAT opening act. Peter Frampton took the stage and WOW. Our children, who believe that nobody over the age of 20 knows how to rock, were spellbound and in slack-jaw awe, as we enjoyed watching a rock legend. It was fantastic.

    Peter Frampton still rocks!

by KnittingNurse on 8/15/09Sioux Empire Fair - Sioux Falls

The concert was amazing. I never realized how TALENTED Peter Frampton is. He plays a mean guitar & can still sing! He went back & forth between new & old material which kept the show interesting. He may only be 5"2" but he can "pack a punch." I would definitely recommend seeing him & would see him again.

The Black Hole Sun was incredible.

by star8r on 8/15/09Sioux Empire Fair - Sioux Falls

Peter's solos were everything you would expect from one of the greatest guitar legends. A true professional and an event that was worth twice the admission. Was great to see Shawn Fichter, a local from Sioux Falls put on a spectacular performance on drums.

    Guitar legend

by tallgirlsd on 8/15/09Sioux Empire Fair - Sioux Falls

Mr. Frampton is a legend. His show last night was a pleasant experience. He took us from new material (which i really liked, honestly), to the oldies but goodies. I was hooked until "Do You Feel Like We Do". Love the song, but he really took liberty with it in what seemed like a 30 min. rendition of the song. Guitar solos are great and Frampton is one of the best, but it just went way over the top and way too long. My disapointment continued after the standing ovation. Many people left before the end. I think they had had enough, but I stayed and the encore was less than impressive. I was bored to tears. God knows this man is an incredible performer and his rendition of "Blackhole Sun" was magic, but overall i felt the show was very average. Marginal recommendation at best.

The new Frampton was not so good.

by 2oscars on 8/15/09Sioux Empire Fair - Sioux Falls

The brief glimpses of the old era were great, and sounded fairly good. However the sound system was the worst I have heard at this venue. The vocal was hard to hear over the very heavy base. Maybe that was on purpose? In general there was to much instrumental, jamming in fact. The majority of the crowd was there to hear him, and they didn't get much of that. Maybe they wanted to just promote their new stuff. I don't think it took for this audience. To bad, I was looking forward to this concert.

Peter Frampton Sioux Falls Empire Fair

by sabee on 8/15/09Sioux Empire Fair - Sioux Falls

Peter,s Alive CD is one of our favorite CDs as we cruise Okoboji. We have never seen him live before but have seen many other artests perform both in there headliner years as well as many after. He definately still has it so it was a shame to have him drownded out by the abrusive loud music. Could not hear as much of his still powerful voice as would of liked to. We could't determin his notes as was so loud. His sound man must of thought they were at woodstock. We left a little early and as we exited the fair we both commented he sounded great there as could really enjoy the music and everything was in detail. We have seen several dated entertainers lately that are quite loud and enjoyed them but this abusive. We stood by the stage which was a little quieter than the grand stand

    Frampton came alive

by JimbobWalton on 8/15/09Sioux Empire Fair - Sioux Falls

The Peter Frampton concert at the Sioux Empire Fair was excellent. Peter is witty, charming and can really play the guitar. The whole band was tight and the sound was exceptional. Peter appeared to enjoy the evening as did his band. I'm so glad I went to see this rock legend!

I saw him in 1977 and thought he is way better now than before. He has truly come into his own! I never realized how witty and honestly talented he is. Would love to see him again.

    Frampton does indeed rule

    by MarVal on 8/7/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Frampton just keeps getting better and better every year. The band is excellent, the song selection is excellent, and it is such a thrill to witness one of the great "guitar gods" of the 20th century still at his peak. He connects well with the audience and has great stage presence.

    Frampton was alive

    by musiccat on 8/7/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

This was the fourth time I've seen Frampton covering a period of 34 years. This was the best of the four. He was full of energy, very talented, funny, and the jamming was beyond great! And I just found out at this concert that he was in the band, "Humble Pie." I never knew that--very cool!
