Penn & Teller On Tour
Not exactly comedians but more than just magicians, Penn & Teller bring a quirky combination of laughs and illusions to every performance. You're ready to laugh before they even trot out their tricks, with the big, brash Penn Jillette towering over his staid, unspeaking partner Teller. And once they dip into the bag of tricks they've been perfecting since the 1970s, you're simultaneously dazzled and delighted. Whether they're working with things like magic bullets, nail guns, and straitjackets, or just employing a seemingly ordinary deck of cards to demonstrate some sleight of hand, the duo can make you doubt your own senses as they appear to make the impossible happen right before your eyes. Sometimes they toss a touch of danger into the mix, and sometimes they simply play the whole thing for laughs, but whatever illusion they're unveiling, Penn & Teller can always pull it off.
Penn & Teller Background
America's most famous magic/comedy duo actually started out as a trio in the '70s, but when third member Weir Chrisemer left in 1981, Penn Jillette and Raymond Teller (who has always gone by just his surname) continued on together, and it was then that their star began to rise. With TV appearances on such shows as Late Night With David Letterman and Saturday Night Live, a series of Broadway shows, and their own Emmy-winning special on PBS, Penn & Teller carved out a niche in show business and became household names in the process. In the years that followed, they became TV personalities in their own right, first with a Showtime series and then with Fool Us on the CW. They've earned their own star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. They've appeared in music videos by Run-DMC and Katy Perry. They've established a record-breaking residency in Las Vegas. And throughout all of these accomplishments, Penn & Teller have shown that a big, loud guy and a small, silent guy can make people gasp and guffaw at the same time.
While in Vegas we saw Penn and Teller. It was amazing. Totally worth seeing!! This is a show we will talk about for some time to come.
Good. Fan of their TV series. Nothing excitingly new and remarkable, but they are good entertainers.
This show had some hits and misses. Since they are considered one of the top magic acts in the country I guess I just expect that every trick/illusion should be good or great. I would say the actual ratio was 50/50. They need to get rid of things like fire eating, some illusion/trick that has a ball following Teller, etc. These are things that we can see with any magician or at the county fair. If they stick to the unique and come up with a few more to take the place of the average tricks this show would be amazing!
Penn and Teller put on a great show. It's not just a series of magic tricks, but a well thought-out thread of magic, jokes, and audience-participation. They're fun, smart, and quirky. This was one of my favorite things from my long weekend in Vegas and recommend it to anyone.
How did they do it? Never did figure out how they did the bullet trick or the joke punch line trick!
This was our second show of Penn and Teller in the past two years and this year's show was even better than the first my wife and I enjoyed. Penn and Teller perform a show without pretense, pomp or stance. They tell it like it is and shoot for the moon at every opportunity. The fact that these fine gentlemen make themselves available for pictures after each show a real real class act. Thank you Penn and Teller for helping to make our visit to Las Vegas memorable!
Awesome show at Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center
P&T are wonderful showmen and their show brings magic, comedy, and even a bit of social discourse together for a fantastic performance. So glad they decided to come back to California for this show!
Sat in the first row and still could not see how they were doing the tricks
The show included several of the baffling magic tricks that are part of the more recent Las Vegas Show. In classic Penn and Teller fashion, it was a mixture of comedy and magic that was narrated by Penn and validated by numerous young and old members of the audience being randomly selected to come onto stage and participate. It was thoroughly entertaining and will satiate anyone's desire to see magic at its best. I will certainly return to see the show in the future and would highly recommend it.
I saw these guys in Las Vegas and now in CA always a great show. "HOW DO THEY DO THAT"
This was a great show - amazing magic and appropriate "all ages" show for our 11 yr old. We laughed, ooh'ed, aaah'd & marveled at everything. After the show the stars were graciously meeting the audience and invited our daughter up forba picture. Please come back soon so we can bring all of our friends & their kids to your amazing show!!
This magician/comedic duo is top notch entertainment! We had always heard it was a great show but never had the opportunity to see them until last night - - all the rave reviews were right on target. Go see these guys if you can!
Took the hubby to see Penn & Teller as an early Christmas gift. It was well worth it. Finally Penn & Teller come back to SoCal! Their show is fantastically fun, so intelligent, and they are true masters of their art form. AMAZING! Let's hear it for the "freak show"!!! AWESOME BOSS!
First time to see Penn and Teller live...They were more than expected! Great show!
Easily one of the most entertaining shows one could see regardless of genre. The comedy, style, personality... and amazing feats of illusion are second to no one. These guys are REAL MAGIC. ps. These cats are so cool they hang out after the show and greet their guests.
One of the best magic performances i have seen. Excellent comedic influence, executed to perfection. I would highly recommend this show.
This dynamic duo are one of a kind! Artistic, comedic and awesome slight of hand/theatre performance. You get to take pics with them afterwards.
It was just OK. I know this is a smaller venue than Las Vegas, but this was just small stage average magic stuff. Plus Penn did WAY , WAY too much talking. He would tell a few lame jokes then wander down the philosophical path for 10-15 minutes. He did that many times and when the show is only 90 minutes long, well there was little time for any "show". They did do one good trick involving an audience member video taping the trick, but other than that, it was kinda boring. They were also selling for ($10.00) left over progams from the RIO. I guess we aren't big enought to get our own programs. Oh yeah, left over T-shirts too. I always wanted to see Penn and Teller, but I should have waited to see the "real show" in Vegas.
Unbelievable magic. Penn & Teller have a wonderful chemistry with the audience!!
