About

Penn & Teller On Tour

Not exactly comedians but more than just magicians, Penn & Teller bring a quirky combination of laughs and illusions to every performance. You're ready to laugh before they even trot out their tricks, with the big, brash Penn Jillette towering over his staid, unspeaking partner Teller. And once they dip into the bag of tricks they've been perfecting since the 1970s, you're simultaneously dazzled and delighted. Whether they're working with things like magic bullets, nail guns, and straitjackets, or just employing a seemingly ordinary deck of cards to demonstrate some sleight of hand, the duo can make you doubt your own senses as they appear to make the impossible happen right before your eyes. Sometimes they toss a touch of danger into the mix, and sometimes they simply play the whole thing for laughs, but whatever illusion they're unveiling, Penn & Teller can always pull it off.

Penn & Teller Background

America's most famous magic/comedy duo actually started out as a trio in the '70s, but when third member Weir Chrisemer left in 1981, Penn Jillette and Raymond Teller (who has always gone by just his surname) continued on together, and it was then that their star began to rise. With TV appearances on such shows as Late Night With David Letterman and Saturday Night Live, a series of Broadway shows, and their own Emmy-winning special on PBS, Penn & Teller carved out a niche in show business and became household names in the process. In the years that followed, they became TV personalities in their own right, first with a Showtime series and then with Fool Us on the CW. They've earned their own star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. They've appeared in music videos by Run-DMC and Katy Perry. They've established a record-breaking residency in Las Vegas. And throughout all of these accomplishments, Penn & Teller have shown that a big, loud guy and a small, silent guy can make people gasp and guffaw at the same time.

  • Unmatched! Outstanding! The Best!

I do magic for the grandchildren; magic has been a hobby for 50 years; I've seen most all the big names in magic; these two are head and shoulders above the rest. They're outstanding in everything I can think of - stage presence, audience engagement, hard right turns that take you completely by surprise; the absolutely different personnas they each have, the level of tricks they do, and probably another 20 metrics I can't even think of right now. If you haven't seen them, find out where they are and go see them. Now.

My wife and I were very excited to go see Penn and Teller. I had seen them on TV many times over the years and really thought they were funny so we decided as locals to see them on Christmas Day. Don't get me wrong, it was a good show but really disappointing from what I remembered of them. I was glad as locals we got our tickets 2 for1 other wise I would have been upset.

  • Penn and Teller seem board

by PhoenixScott on 1/20/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 2 out of 5

Worth seeing? Yes. Especially if you have never seen the two live before. With that said, they seemed board during the show. There wasn't as much energy as I remember from them years ago. It seemed to me that they were just going through the paces. I still had fun.

  • Penn & Teller wowed us!

by Anonymous on 1/18/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! We brought our boys ages 11 & 8 and they were wowed! After the show, both Penn & Teller were in the lobby for pictures!

  • Saw them 20+ years ago...

by KDrummer on 12/31/10Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 2 out of 5

I first saw Penn & Teller in San Francisco about 20 or so years ago. They were FANTASTIC! Penn was hilarious, Teller was spectacular with his escapes, etc. I was awestruck. Also in the audience that night was George Lucas. He was complimenting Penn & Teller on their show (during their meet&greet at the end of the show) and I listened in and agreed. I have since seen them on 5 more occasions and have recommended the Penn & Teller show to all my friends. I took my (then 13 year old) daughter to another San Francisco show and she loved them as well. This last show was not up to the standards they have exhibited in the past. I was quite disappointed in the lack of energy from both performers, the patter was too verbose, not nearly enough humor, and not enough blow-away magic. I hope they aren't in a rut.

  • Thought provoking & entertaining

by CaptainChris on 11/24/10Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

P & T put on a very entertaining, well paced show. The "tricks" they do seem to be more advanced and challenging than other magicians. For example, they go to considerable lengths to dispel common suspicions regarding the tricks such as there being no overt trick photography or mirrors. No matter how basic the trick and how hard you stare, it is still a surprise. Their commentary is also entertaining - riffs on the TSA, religion and politics. Although I do not agree with everything said, they make you think about the back story of a trick (the riff) and how the heck the trick itself is done. Also, the homage they pay to Houdini is a nice touch.

  • Penn and Teller - Magical

by Jerseyvisitor on 11/21/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Penn and Teller really involve the audience in their routines. They are educational, funny, and highly entertaining. Tell's slight of hand is perfect. They really have illusions down to a science.

  • The show was awesome!

  • Horrible

    by Sonny88 on 11/17/10Rio - Las VegasRating: 1 out of 5

This has to be the worst show I've ever seen in Las Vegas. Penn does not shut up the entire time and there are so few magic tricks that I came to see it's unbelievable to call it an act. At the beginning, before the show starts, audience members go up on stage to sign something that is never used in the show. Thank God I had free tickets (for donating blood) or I really would have been pissed!!!

  • Lots of Fun, nice People

  • Con Artists and Comedy

by GCord52 on 11/9/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely outstanding performance. Penn's patter kept everyone laughing and the show moving while Teller, even though mostly silent, could still get laughs with a look or a raised eyebrow. The magic itself was flawless! Even when they did the balls and cups trick (with clear cups no less) you still couldn't follow it. And their "burning" of the American flag was brilliant and the lesson was awe inspiring. All in all an evening I will not soon forget and hope to repeat when they return to New Jersey! BRAVO Penn and Teller!

  • Penn and Teller give what is expected

by Hudson123 on 11/9/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

I and several others around me had problems quite often hearing Teller And he talked a lot. Not sure if it was the sound system, where we were sitting, or that he swallowed some of his words. While I enjoyed it, I( felt that their energy level was not as high as I would have liked it, and it was a show they had repeated many times. The whole bit about sword swallowing was almost impossible to hear or understand.

Even better in person. Didn't think it was possible.
