About

Penn & Teller On Tour

Not exactly comedians but more than just magicians, Penn & Teller bring a quirky combination of laughs and illusions to every performance. You're ready to laugh before they even trot out their tricks, with the big, brash Penn Jillette towering over his staid, unspeaking partner Teller. And once they dip into the bag of tricks they've been perfecting since the 1970s, you're simultaneously dazzled and delighted. Whether they're working with things like magic bullets, nail guns, and straitjackets, or just employing a seemingly ordinary deck of cards to demonstrate some sleight of hand, the duo can make you doubt your own senses as they appear to make the impossible happen right before your eyes. Sometimes they toss a touch of danger into the mix, and sometimes they simply play the whole thing for laughs, but whatever illusion they're unveiling, Penn & Teller can always pull it off.

Penn & Teller Background

America's most famous magic/comedy duo actually started out as a trio in the '70s, but when third member Weir Chrisemer left in 1981, Penn Jillette and Raymond Teller (who has always gone by just his surname) continued on together, and it was then that their star began to rise. With TV appearances on such shows as Late Night With David Letterman and Saturday Night Live, a series of Broadway shows, and their own Emmy-winning special on PBS, Penn & Teller carved out a niche in show business and became household names in the process. In the years that followed, they became TV personalities in their own right, first with a Showtime series and then with Fool Us on the CW. They've earned their own star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. They've appeared in music videos by Run-DMC and Katy Perry. They've established a record-breaking residency in Las Vegas. And throughout all of these accomplishments, Penn & Teller have shown that a big, loud guy and a small, silent guy can make people gasp and guffaw at the same time.

  • Penn & Teller at Rio Great Show!

We thoroughly enjoyed the show. Fun time! The highlight was the "meet and greet" after the show. Autographs and taking pictures with them added to the experience.

The show was pretty good. It only lasted 1.5 hours so for the price, it would be nice to have lasted at least 2 hours. It is a combination of magic and comedy. I enjoyed the show. Some of the magic was lower level and fairly easy to figure out how they did it. But for most of the illusions, I am still wondering how they did it. All in all, it was a good show.

The magic was amazing and Penn & Teller are very funny!

  • A little BS, a lot of magic and a ton of laughs

by Marchy on 4/1/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

The show starts off with a nice jazz session with a great piano player and a Penn playing an upright base. The piano player asks everyone in the audience to walk up to the stage and sign their name on a paper and look at a box. Once the Jazz session is over the show starts. Penn & Teller do quite a bit of audience interaction which I think is awesome. Their show is a mix of the BS tv show, their Magic routine and a fair amount of comedy. After the show is done you can find both Penn & Teller taking pictures, signing autograph and just hanging out with the fans.

Lot's of audience participation! Seats were great. Enjoyed the trick with the cell phone on video. Not a word from Teller. Funny.

  • Good show!

    by DMAN1721 on 3/21/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

Well, you can watch the whole act on youtube which kinda ruined it for me in a sense. Show was still worth the cost watching live. Had fun. They both were very good! Wish they had some different routines. Seemed like a play more than a comedy/magic/bull(s) show. Interacting with the audience was not a strong part for them. They aren't very clever on their feet. They are more of a robot routine. I liked that the show was only 1.5 hours. One bad thing which isn't the end of the world is you must take a cab to the rio from the strip. expect to drop 18-20 each way. All in all 7.1 out of 10 stars.

My teenage son and I went to see them, and both of us found it entertaining. It's a great mix of laughter, and amazement. These guys are unique and I'm glad to have the chance to see them in person.

I'd seen most of the illuisions by them on tv at various times but it was great to see them live. A really enjoyable show to see.

  • Don't miss Penn & Teller

    by Marv43 on 2/27/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show, time just flew by. At the end, both Penn & Teller ran up the aisle and out. I did not realize that they were running out so they can meet us as we left the show. Both were very pleasant. They both spoke with us...YES, Teller can talk :-) and they both posed for pictures when requested.

  • Penn and Teller - an intellectual barrel of fun

by MarcfromMercerIsland on 2/21/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

A unconventional magic show that teases the mind. The audience finds itself on the side of the magician, 'let in' on a few of the tricks ,only to find in the end that you've been hoodwinked all along. It was a wonderful, entertaining experience delivered two distinct personalities who appear to enjoy performing in a very unique milieu. Meeting the audience in person in the lobby after the show was a very nice touch by the artists.

Loved the venue and the show was a lot of fun. We always wanted to see them in Vegas, but never got the opportunity. It was great!!!! How did they do those tricks?? There was a lot of interaction with the audience.

  • Pen & Teller... Burn them as witches!!!

by chefPMG on 2/15/11Hard Rock Live Orlando - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

Terrific show, unbelievable stuff! Penn is a great showman and (obviously!) does all of the speaking to the audience. But the real surprise was the level of interaction from Teller; sometimes with the stage to himself. Being quite close to the stage (thanks Ticketmaster!), we had good opprtunity to see these guys work up close, and they were faultless. You mind tells you its just slight of hand, but your eyes are woefully inadequate in spotting it! Best advice? Just enjoy the ride! Though, how he produced about 300 goldfish from nowhere is a real head scratcher....!!!

  • Not Magically Delicious

    by Nygirl2 on 2/14/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 2 out of 5

My expectations were set high, due to the number of positive reviews I perused before making one of my picks for my big Vegas weekend. The tricks performed were mediocre at best and while I found both artists to be congenial, the humor along with the magic was certainly far from cutting edge. Their routine was a step above pulling a rabbit out of a hat, but not by much. While Penn & Teller have established themselves as a Vegas institution, they have grown too comfortable in their reliance on their names alone, to pull in the crowds. We all seem to be working harder in these economic times, as some of us struggle to find the time to get out and take in a good show. In my humble opinion, Penn & Teller need to work a little harder as well.

  • Always A Good Show

These guys are always fantastic. A great show for anyone to see. Unfortunately, after seeing them once many years ago, they still do some of their old tricks. BUT they are very entertaining!
