About

Penn & Teller On Tour

Not exactly comedians but more than just magicians, Penn & Teller bring a quirky combination of laughs and illusions to every performance. You're ready to laugh before they even trot out their tricks, with the big, brash Penn Jillette towering over his staid, unspeaking partner Teller. And once they dip into the bag of tricks they've been perfecting since the 1970s, you're simultaneously dazzled and delighted. Whether they're working with things like magic bullets, nail guns, and straitjackets, or just employing a seemingly ordinary deck of cards to demonstrate some sleight of hand, the duo can make you doubt your own senses as they appear to make the impossible happen right before your eyes. Sometimes they toss a touch of danger into the mix, and sometimes they simply play the whole thing for laughs, but whatever illusion they're unveiling, Penn & Teller can always pull it off.

Penn & Teller Background

America's most famous magic/comedy duo actually started out as a trio in the '70s, but when third member Weir Chrisemer left in 1981, Penn Jillette and Raymond Teller (who has always gone by just his surname) continued on together, and it was then that their star began to rise. With TV appearances on such shows as Late Night With David Letterman and Saturday Night Live, a series of Broadway shows, and their own Emmy-winning special on PBS, Penn & Teller carved out a niche in show business and became household names in the process. In the years that followed, they became TV personalities in their own right, first with a Showtime series and then with Fool Us on the CW. They've earned their own star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. They've appeared in music videos by Run-DMC and Katy Perry. They've established a record-breaking residency in Las Vegas. And throughout all of these accomplishments, Penn & Teller have shown that a big, loud guy and a small, silent guy can make people gasp and guffaw at the same time.

This is the second time seeing Penn & Teller. This time they revised the show with some new material. It was a let down from the first time around. They induced too much politics into the show. They are good with magic and should stick to that. I went to see a magic act not a State of the Union speech. However, despite the politics I still suggest you see the show. Some of the illusions are amazing. The show is geared toward more of an adult crowd. My grandkids and myself did not enjoy it as much as the other magic shows on the strip. Their old show did not have such long speeches about politics.

Fun, campy and impressive. Over two hours long and it was over before we knew it.

Having seen Penn & Teller on the television here in the UK, I have always said on a visit to Las Vegas I would love to see them. Last night I did just that, and as expected, their brilliant comedy and ability to perform illusions on stage made the night up there with some of the best moments of our holiday. The benefit of getting to meet both of them in the shows lobby afterwards topped off a great performance, and proved these two guys are definitely in it for the satisfaction they get from happy people who visit their show. Thank you both for a fab night, we'll see you again next year! P.S. The bill of rights in my pocket had the desired effect lol.

  • a vegas must-see

A fabulous cocktail of comedy, showmanship and both simple and mindboggling tricks. Penn and Teller's gimmick is that they let you into the secret workings of most tricks that they perform (some their own stunts, others that will have foxed you from other magicians), but then they leave you absolutely stunned by adding in their own twists. Fast paced but well timed, this show leaves you thoroughly entertained. Some things you will see are totally bloody inexplicable, and its awesome! The cynicism and straight-talking comedy really adds to this show, making it totally different from any other type of magic show you will see. If fact, I wouldn't even market this as a magic show - just 90 minutes of mindblowing entertainment. The closer you sit, the more you'll see, but be ready for audience participation!!

Very good tricks, but if you compare it to copperfield it looks like its less show and they are ot so fun as David. Sorry to compare it to copperfield but I saw his show in Vegas the night before.

  • Penn & Teller @ The Rio in Vegas

    by Ozz1 on 9/7/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent show. Had always seen them perform on TV and the Showtime Series "Bullsh!t" but to get the chance to see them live in Vegas was very enjoyable. They did some amazing magic and mixed that blend of humor that has made them great. Would highly reccomend the show. Also got to go up on stage before the show and then meet both of them after the show. They each posed for pics and signed our program. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our night!!!

  • Penn & Teller ok

by kelbob on 9/4/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 3 out of 5

The show was ok, just a magic show. They had some really good acts, but just a routine show. Do not pay full price, not worth it.

  • The AMAZING Penn and Teller

    by loumur81 on 8/24/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed the Penn and Teller Show at the Rio, Las Vegas. Both talkative Penn and the ever-silent Mr. Teller light up the stage and totally captivate the entire audience. Some of the tricks I had seen on their TV show, but seeing it live added a whole new dimension. The show itself was absolutely hilarious and I loved how during some tricks they went on to explain how they had fooled us all. I was also very impressed that they met with fans after the show and happily smiled for photos and signed autographs - at which point I heard Mr. Teller speak! 5 stars - wonderful!

  • Very good

    by Jonathan84 on 8/6/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

I'm a big fan of Penn and was happy to finally see his Vegas show with Teller. They were very funny and incorporated the audience into a lot of their acts. Many of the things they did seem near impossible. Great stuff. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because although it's worth seeing, it would be better if it was a little longer. Penn also spends a good bit of time ranting about things rather than doing magic, but if you're a fan of Penn like I am then you will enjoy it because it's funny. Also I recommend you pay the money to get a seat up close because you will have trouble seeing things if you're in the balcony. I was in section one and it was a great seat.

The show blew my mind. Thought it could have had more tricks, but we both loved it. The meet and greet was exciting.

  • P & T

The show was amazing. The evening started with Jonzie and Penn playing great jazz. The show was entertaining and fun, and best of all they were both extremely accommodating and stayed after the show to sign autographs and take pictures. They did not rush a single person, and took time to talk to everyone.

  • Even better live!

My wife and I enjoy Penn & Teller on their show...so we thought we would see them in person. They are absolutely entertaining...a good mix of "magic" and fun. I would gladly go see them again...

These guys are fantastic, I'm still wondering how did they do that. And I love how they used a the audience on some of the tricks

  • Not your typical magic show

by RSBF on 6/11/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

If you want to see magic with a bit of political and social commentary thrown in, then this is the right show. P&T identify themselves as Libertarian, so be aware that the dialog reflects that. Loved the fact that in explaining their tricks, they surprise you. Some of the set-ups seemed a bit long.

  • Now that's amazing

    by SandiaCrest1 on 5/26/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. Even though Penn told us how they were doing the tricks, I still could not figure out how they did the tricks. Very funny. Really enjoyed the show. It is great that they come out in the lobby afterwards and meet their fans. Truly personable.

  • Two Pros At The Top Of Their Game

by QueenSparkle on 5/4/11Rio Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

With 5th row seats, we got to see everything close up and were still impressed at how good Penn and Teller are! The funnest part of their act is how they explain how so many magic tricks are done and then take those tricks up another level to keep everyone at attention. Get to the show early. You get a chance to get up on stage to help with a couple of the tricks and you might just see Penn playing the upright bass with the pre-show pianist. Also, unlike most Vegas headliners, Penn and Teller go to the lobby after the show to sign autographs.! It's a clean show, so bring the whole family.
