About

Patton Oswalt continues to leave his distinctive imprint across all areas of entertainment, from his award-winning comedy specials to his many guest roles on television. His most recent comedy special We All Scream (which also marked his directorial debut) launched on Netflix last September and Oswalt was recently nominated for a Grammy for his comedy album. Last year, he starred in the Magnolia Pictures comedy I Love My Dad, winner of the Grand Jury and Audience awards at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival.

Oswalt was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his performance in Jason Reitman's film Young Adult, starring opposite Charlize Theron. In 2009, he also received critical acclaim for his performance in Robert Siegel's Big Fan; the film was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and Oswalt earned a Gotham Award nomination for his performance.

Oswalt has appeared in many films, including The Circle, alongside Tom Hanks, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Zoolander, both directed by Ben Stiller, Steven Soderbergh's The Informant with Matt Damon, and alongside Seth Rogen in Jody Hill's Observe and Report, as well as Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia and Todd Phillips' Starsky and Hutch.

Oswalt's past television work includes memorable roles on Parks and Recreation, which brought him a TV Critics Choice Award, A.P. Bio, Veep, United States of Tara, Seinfeld (his TV acting debut), and many more. He is also very well known for playing 'Spence' on The King of Queens for nine seasons. Oswalt is also the narrator on ABC's hit comedy The Goldbergs.  He provided the voice for 'Remy' the rat in Pixar's Oscar® winner Ratatouille, and his other voice credits include 'Max' in The Secret Life of Pets 2, Sorry To Bother You, the SYFY series Happy!, Rick and Morty, Archer, and BoJack Horseman.

In 2020, Oswalt's Emmy nominated Netflix special I Love Everything was widely applauded upon release, and he received a Grammy nomination for his comedy album of the same name. In 2017, he received Grammy and Emmy nominations for his album and Netflix special Annihilation, which addresses his own devastating loss and dealing with the unexplainable, while making it all painfully funny.  In 2016, he won the Emmy for 'Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special' for his sixth comedy special Talking for Clapping and a Grammy Award in 2017 for his comedy album. He has been nominated for a total of six Grammys and four Emmys. Oswalt has shot eight TV specials and released seven critically acclaimed albums -- in 2009, Patton received his first Grammy nomination for his album My Weakness Is Strong.

  • Patton Oswalt was hilarious!

by BigJRoss on 8/6/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Patton Oswalt has been one of my favorite stand-up comedians for the last several years. I don't know if he comes to San Diego every year and does a show during ComicCon, but I know he was here last year and I missed him. I wasn't going to let this opportunity pass this year, and I'm very glad I didn't. Patton was hilarious, as good as I've ever heard with all new material.

  • A 100% Blast

by doktorbuzzo on 7/25/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible fun, Patton was in fine form and there were extra laughs due to the fact the show was being taped. The director was Bobcat Goldthwait who made an unexpected appearance onstage mid-show to reset Patton after a lint-inuced (yes, lint) pause. The theater is a beautiful place to see a show and was perfect for the occasion. Theater staff were very helpful and kept the attendees moving smoothly before and after the show.

  • Great set

Patton Oswalt with a new set, Comic con weekend what more can I add?! Brutally funny!

  • The man the legend

by Anonymous on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Patton Oswalt has been in this business for 20+ years and has made a huge impact on the business. After seeing him at Spreckles one can see why he is still as relevant today as he was back then. I felt honored to have been a part of the live taping to one of my favorite as well as one of my true inspirations of comedy. He still has that style that some would lose if they go to far. His routine kept getting better and better as the night went on, to the point that I was trying so hard to hold myself together from my laughter, I think I almost died doing that. His comedy should come with a warning label. The venue was spectacular probably now one of my most favorite theaters. I highly recommend that whenever you have a chance to see Mr. Oswalt accept no substitutes.

  • Hilarious as always!

Patton never fails to bring the funny. Make sure to empty your bladder before the show starts!

  • Re-Hashed jokes from one year earlier.

by Kaleidoscopic on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

This 10:30 pm show was being taped by Comedy Central so we all received an email informing us that it was mandatory we arrive at 9:30 pm or our seats would be given away. We dutifully arrived at 9:25 pm to find a line stretched around the building that we joined and then proceeded to stand in for a full hour. When we were finally inside the theater at 10:30, the advertised time, we were told the show would start at 11:30pm...nice. Nothing breeds laughter from an audience then being jerked around for two hours. While Patton is sweet and amusing, I have to say that his material was 90% recycled from the show we saw in the exact same theater exactly one year before. I expected some of his greatest hits...but it was literally re-run after re-run...it was so horribly disappointing. He ended the show by saying "see you next year!"...ummmm...no, Patton...you won't.

  • Patton at his finest!

Tremendous performance from a tremendous comedian who is in his prime. World's funniest/most offensive knock-knock joke.

  • Patton on Fire!

by darabbi on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Patton while at Comic Con. He was amazing and did a great set. He did this show as part of a taping for a special on Comedy Central. I attended the later show. While doing his set he had a problem, which caused the taping to be interrupted. It was a hilarious moment from the show that will never make the tape. Like Patton before the show, but love him now. You can see him aging well as a stand-up in this set. He talked about his role as a father and how his daughter is changing him. There was also moments where he shared about his earlier days as a stand up. He spoke once of Richard Pryor. There were moments here that one could see the connection between him and Richard. The fearlessness and the honesty that Richard had, one can see in Patton.

  • Patton O. Live filming

by Cardiffkp on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I love Patton Oswalt! That is why I'm giving the show 4 stars. Unfortunately, I enjoyed last year's show more than this one. Most of the material I had already heard. He did it well, it was just not new. This is probably because he was recording a Comedy Central special for people not necessarily familiar with his material. I didn't enjoy the cameraman filming the show, either. It will be fun to see the special on television someday, but in the future, I will try to avoid comedy shows that are being filmed. If you read this Patton, thank you for the laughs over the years. I love your intelligence and humor!

  • Patton at his BEST!

  • Technical Difficulties on Patton's Show

by dkcnaples on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

Ticket-holders were asked to be there an hour early because it was being filmed. Got in right at 8, then they were doing lighting checks for 45 minutes. That should have already been done. Warm-up act for 10 minutes, then Patton came out at almost 9. Had to leave at 9:15 to get to another show. THey asked us to be there early and do our part, but they didn't hold up their end.

  • Oswalt is hilarious!

by JKMAX on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I'd always enjoyed Patton Oswalt's work on movies and television shows. But I became a huge fan of his after catching his comedy special "Finest Hour" on Showtime. When my wife and I discovered that he would be performing in our fair city, we bought tickets immediately. The show took place during Comic Con, so the streets were teeming with costume-wearing convention goers in high spirits. We took the bus from our place in North Park in order to avoid traffic and were dropped off right across from the venue: The Spreckles Theater on Broadway. Before the doors opened, two men with a camera walked around the area, conducting interviews with fans and firing up the crowd. While we weren't interviewed, we were definitely captured on film. The place was sold out, so once the doors opened it took a long time to get inside. Once we made it to our seats, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the theater, which has huge carvings on the walls and a cathedral-style ceiling. The show started approximately thirty minutes late, which I assume was due to the fact that it was being recorded for an album and televised special. The delay is the only reason that I rated the event four stars instead of five. Once the show began, it was incredible. The warm-up comedian, Michael Drucker, did a twenty minute set focusing mainly on self deprecation and being a nerd. Very funny! Oswalt took the stage to thunderous applause, and after graciously thanking the crowd, launched into some of his funniest material yet. From ragging on the state of Florida for being ultra competitive at everything, to recalling an experience with a prostitute many years before, I've rarely laughed so hard. After completing the main body of the show, he returned to the stage for a few extra minutes of bonus material. The entire performance lasted approximately an hour and ten minutes, and I left the theater feeling very satisfied that I'd gotten my money's worth. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who likes to laugh!

  • Awesome time

by JimDuffy on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Patton had to start over at one point when Bobcat Goldthwait, who I assume was directing, walked out to tell him the shot was bad because of some fuzz on his jacket or something. He handled it really well and the show didn't lose any steam. Had a great time, can't wait to see the special on Comedy Central.

  • Started 45 minutes late = fail.

by SanDiegoLady on 7/23/13Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I really like Patton Oswald and the 30 minutes I got to see of his act was very funny. However, the show started more than 45 minutes late and because of babysitting time cut off, we had to leave after he had been on stage for only 35 minutes or so. If they would have started on time, we would have been able to see the whole thing. Total fail.

  • Show at tulalip

The show was great!! I was worried some of the material would be repeats from his last recording but it was all new

  • Patton is the man!

by JARose on 10/21/12Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 5 out of 5

As soon as I heard that Patton would be playing in my area (which is rare, given how busy the guy is with movies and television), I booked a ticket. It proved to be an excellent decision! Tulalip Resort and Casino was lavish and luxurious, providing a perfect venue for a comedy show. Opener Derek Sheen set the tone for the rest of the event as his humor and style is very similar to Patton's. And, of course, the man himself had the room enthralled with tales of Lean Cuisine-prompted suicide with Toto's "Africa" as the soundtrack and his 3-year-old daughter's outbursts of unexpected racism at Starbucks. There were a few negatives. The chairs in the casino's ballroom were situated closely together, so much so that I found myself packed too tightly against my fellow show-goers. Also, I had hoped that Patton would stick around after the show for photo ops or autographs; I had brought my copy of his book, "Zombie Spaceship Wasteland," in the hopes that he might sign it, but he retreated to realms unknown after his set. I don't begrudge him for it as he's a busy guy and the show drew a full crowd, ensuring that he might have been kept around for hours, but still, it would have been great to get his signature in Sharpie marker on the title page. Other than that, excellent show! I'm looking forward to the next one!

  • Patton Rocked!

    by PattonFan1429 on 10/17/12Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 4 out of 5

Our seats weren't the greatest, but the venue was smaller so it wasn't nosebleed from the stage. Opening comic was late and only did a half hour set, but we really weren't there for him. Patton came out and just stole the show. His material was hilarious and he interacted with the audience which had the crowd roaring with laughter. Only down side was, he was only on stage for less than an hour. Would have loved to see more of him. Nonetheless, it was a good show. He is a GREAT comedian!

  • Patton Oswalt

Amazing show . The opener was great and Patton was just fantastic. Great interaction with the audience and all new material. Loved it

  • Hysterical!

    by lilnavynurse84 on 10/15/12Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 5 out of 5

I have love, love, loved Patton Oswalt for years now so when I saw he was coming to the Pacific NW I had to get in on the laughs. Certainly I was not disappointed. Patton was everything I thought he would be live. However, I thought his opener was mediocre and the venue he chose was bizarre. I have yet to come up with a good reason why someone like him would perform at a casino but hey it worked. Really good show, good times!
