About

Patton Oswalt continues to leave his distinctive imprint across all areas of entertainment, from his award-winning comedy specials to his many guest roles on television. His most recent comedy special We All Scream (which also marked his directorial debut) launched on Netflix last September and Oswalt was recently nominated for a Grammy for his comedy album. Last year, he starred in the Magnolia Pictures comedy I Love My Dad, winner of the Grand Jury and Audience awards at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival.

Oswalt was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his performance in Jason Reitman's film Young Adult, starring opposite Charlize Theron. In 2009, he also received critical acclaim for his performance in Robert Siegel's Big Fan; the film was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and Oswalt earned a Gotham Award nomination for his performance.

Oswalt has appeared in many films, including The Circle, alongside Tom Hanks, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Zoolander, both directed by Ben Stiller, Steven Soderbergh's The Informant with Matt Damon, and alongside Seth Rogen in Jody Hill's Observe and Report, as well as Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia and Todd Phillips' Starsky and Hutch.

Oswalt's past television work includes memorable roles on Parks and Recreation, which brought him a TV Critics Choice Award, A.P. Bio, Veep, United States of Tara, Seinfeld (his TV acting debut), and many more. He is also very well known for playing 'Spence' on The King of Queens for nine seasons. Oswalt is also the narrator on ABC's hit comedy The Goldbergs.  He provided the voice for 'Remy' the rat in Pixar's Oscar® winner Ratatouille, and his other voice credits include 'Max' in The Secret Life of Pets 2, Sorry To Bother You, the SYFY series Happy!, Rick and Morty, Archer, and BoJack Horseman.

In 2020, Oswalt's Emmy nominated Netflix special I Love Everything was widely applauded upon release, and he received a Grammy nomination for his comedy album of the same name. In 2017, he received Grammy and Emmy nominations for his album and Netflix special Annihilation, which addresses his own devastating loss and dealing with the unexplainable, while making it all painfully funny.  In 2016, he won the Emmy for 'Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special' for his sixth comedy special Talking for Clapping and a Grammy Award in 2017 for his comedy album. He has been nominated for a total of six Grammys and four Emmys. Oswalt has shot eight TV specials and released seven critically acclaimed albums -- in 2009, Patton received his first Grammy nomination for his album My Weakness Is Strong.

  • Patton = hilarious!

by ericfromhh on 11/9/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Saw Patton as part of the NY Comedy Festival - he was hilarious, touching on topics such as his insanity caused be being a new father, religion, Christmas songs and more. There were several portions of his routine that had me tearing up from laughing so hard. This was the first time I've ever seen his standup and I will definitely be looking for more. His delivery is great - he manages to pull of the art of the rant without making it overly bitter and the expletives complement the performance rather than dominate it.

Patton was great- he took the stage for nearly 2 hours, which is unbelievable for a stand up comedian. He did stuff off of his latest album, but also some new stuff so it was really great- heard some favorite stand bys that any fan would know, as well as new jokes. Seating is terrible- too close together, and it was hot as hell, but the performance made it worth it.

  • Best show I have seen

by ELJD on 11/9/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the show from start to finish but I like Patton's comedy. The middle act was OK, and the opener was great but Patton was off the wall great. I will be getting tickets next year when the festival comes again for more acts

  • Patton not too funny

by KCCritic on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

Only about 1/2 his jokes were funny...his take on religion and a few jokes about former President Bush. The rest were pretty bland and not real funny. Did a bit about sweat pants and getting a ticket...totally lame. I think he wants us to use our imagination way too much as he goes into detail about events and descriptions that are just not that humorous. I was still waiting for the punchline that never came.

I got these tickets as a birthday present for my fiance and we were not disappointed. We literally laughed the entire time. We hope to see him again the next time he's in NY.

  • Fun show

by juliofromny on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I would have enjoyed the event more if I didn't listen to his album on the way to the venue. Because of this, I knew half of his material so it wasn't as funny to me as it would have been when I had listened to it the first time. When he ended the show with same joke he ended on his most recent album I felt a little cheated, so the encore story about a Christmas song by a group called Newsong was a pleasant surprise and redeemed the value I spent on the ticket to me. I know this may be silly to anyone else, but unlike musicians, whenever I go see a comedian live I'm expecting totally new material and not stuff that's already been put in an album for posterity. This was the first time that I saw a comedian and he was doing stuff from an album that I currently owned so that's probably another reason that this wsan't so appealing an experience to me. I guess I've been spoiled as a standup fan. Take my review for what it is.

  • What stand up SHOULD be!

by greenmonsterkeeper on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

There are so many things one could say about the performance of Patton Oswalt but what it all boils down to is he's the guy you want to tell you a story because he tells it the best. He isn't vindictive. He isn't mean. He's brutally honest but fair to all humankind...plus he doesn't let himself off the hook. It doesn't feel like an act. Ever. He winds up being the guy you hope you meet in the kitchen at a party who weaves a great tale but not for the ego or the power but because he knows that's his gift. The best things is he doesn't rest on those laurels. he continues to polish and work hard to see where his talent can go. David Cross, Brian Posehn, Zach Galifinakis, Sarah Silverman etc....these performers remind us what a beautiful, simple and powerful art form comedy can be.

Great show, great material, had me in stitches all night. Had wonderful seats for a reasonable price, Patton Oswalt is a good buy for your buck.

  • Patton Oswalt is a God

by TheJoeManMeisterHammer on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What really amazed me about Mr. Oswalt's performance is the ratio of new material to old. His last album just hit stores three months ago and most of his material was brand new. Not only that, but his new material was hilarious. He was very gracious, doing an older bit of material at the request of one of the audience members he was bantering with. His opening acts were mixed. The second comedian was average, definitely not deserving of opening such a headliner. The first act was amazing though. I hope to see her as a headliner one day.

Patton was hilarious. This was observational humor at its finest.

  • Hilarious

by meej on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I laughed until I cried - twice. I absolutely loved his new material and heard some classics that never get old.

This review will be a little bit bias. I love Patton Oswalt, he is by far my favorite comedian. The opening acts were funny as well. What I really enjoyed was that there was new material I hadn't heard before along with bits I had already heard from his recorded sets. However, the "old" material was just as funny as the first time I had heard it. Long live Patton!

  • Side Splitting Evening

by JDoos on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The Three Comedians of the evening: Morgan Murphy opened for the evening and was not disappointing. I laughed through the entirety of her act. I will be looking for more events of hers in NYC To be honest with you the second act was fairly unimpressive and I am having trouble remembering his name. Patton Oswalt was of course sidesplitting. A nice mixture of his usual act with jokes I haven't heard before. I will continue to follow his career and hopefully see him in NY again soon.

  • Hilarity Ensued!

    by Boomer7 on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed Patton Oswalt--and, just when we thought it couldn't get any better, he had us rolling in the aisles with his analysis of the "Christmas Shoes" song. (Opening act Morgan Murphy was a lot of fun too!)

  • Patton Killed.

by dudefromhoboken on 11/8/09Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. Great venue. He was on for over an hour and then did an encore. Really great stuff. One of the best comedy acts I've ever seen live.

  • Worthwhile

by Ninpez on 10/23/09Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

It is important to note that this was a Patton Oswalt & Friends show. Meaning most of the focus was on the friends. Most of these were young up and coming comedians. Most did well although some fell flat on their face and failed to entertain anyone. However, the last act before Patton, Todd Barry delivered a set of new material which was quite entertaining to old fans and first timers alike. As for Patton, he delivered about 45 minutes of new material followed 15 mins of tested previously performed material. An acceptable amount seeing as this material was only about 6 months old and worthy of retelling. An enjoyable evening by all means. However the venue leaves much to be desired. Well in location anyway. This venue is barely accessible by car as parking is near non-existant in this under gentrification neighborhood. Metro access is availible but requires at least three line changes from virginia. A bit of a hassle for a weekday night. Patton's appeal has always been stand up for nerds and geeks. I don't need to see him in some trendy inconvienant hip part of the city

outstanding. lots of fun. The crowd seemed hesitant to laugh though, but that's just DC.

  • Funny SOB's

by Lochnessy on 10/23/09Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Opening comedians were a lot more entertaining than we thought they'd be. Figured I would be tolerating it while waiting for Patton to come on. Not the case! All the comedians were just as (and at times even more) entertaining while the acts were all current. I'd never seen or heard any of the material before. It seemed like a lot of jokes were off the cuff which is always more entertaining even if its not true. Wish Patton went on for just a little longer (was just over a half hour) but in all fairness it was a comedy festival and not his special show.
