About

Ever since the release of their 2008 EP Chunk of Change, Passion Pit’s unique brand of indietronica has appealed to fans of both indie rock and electronic dance music, generating heaps of praise from those bastions of hipster cred otherwise known as music blogs. With the release of sophomore album Gossamer in 2012, the band kept crowds moving with a collection of ambitious and impeccably produced gems like “Take a Walk” and “Constant Conversations,” earning the album a No. 4 position on the Billboard 200. Passion Pit originated as the solo project of frontman Michael Angelakos, who penned the project’s first songs for his girlfriend before enlisting some of his classmates from Berklee College of Music to start a group. The band’s debut full-length Manners (2009) received praise from critics and bloggers for its catchy and danceable songs, including breakthrough single “Sleepyhead” and kaleidoscopic electro hit “The Reeling.” On tour in 2013, Passion Pit has been treating fans to high-octane live performances that perfectly capture the spirit of their sparkling pop anthems.

  • Passion Pit is seriously psychedelic.

by Anonymous on 6/9/13STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

It was so worth standing in the rain for an hour and a half to see Passion Pit. We managed to get to like the second row in the mosh pit, and I'm so glad we were that close. Passion Pit put on an amazing show, and they play awesome live! The shoving from other people didn't even matter because when Passion Pit started playing, everything was all right. Most of the crowd seemed to come together with happy energy and we were all dancing and cheering together. I think Passion Pit's songs and music are so creative. The band inspires me--I often listen to them when I'm writing or doing art. I've created some of my best pieces listening to them! Their music is calming, happy, and just flows. They help me out when I'm having a bad day! Passion Pit was great; I'm definitely going to see them again if they play nearby! Each band member played awesomely. You guys are psychedelic! :]

  • Carried Away by the great light show!!

Standing in the pouring rain for nearly 2 hours waiting to get into the venue was totally worth it because the band played amazingly. The Post Gazette reviewer said the show was bland but my friend and I thought totally otherwise. I'm one of those people who like the live performance to sound as good as the recording -- with not a lot of deviation so I was not disappointed. It would have been nice it they had engaged more personally with the audience with some more dialogue ... Or played a longer set but hey... Tickets were only $35. I have paid a lot more for a lot less. We loved the show. I would definitely see them again.

I read a review in the Post Gazette the next day that was far from favorable. And honestly, I see what it was saying. In more words, the critic was unhappy that the concert was simply a live performance of their most popular songs with no artistic alterations more than crowd singalongs. That, in of itself, does not a bad concert make. They performed amazingly and I loved every moment of singing along to their songs in the pit, jumping up and down with everyone around me. Sure, they didn't perform alternate live versions of their songs, but that isn't what I would expect from them, honestly. Keep it up!

Awesome time, these guys know how to perform. This was my 2nd show of theirs that I went too.

  • A pit of passion

    by Aut23 on 6/9/13Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Passion Pit was absolutely amazing. There was such a good energy and it was probably the best concert I've ever been to. The Madison was pretty crowded but most indoor venues are, and it also made it a more personal experience.

Was a casual fan going in but I absolutely loved it!!

  • Incredible Energy

    by CarpeDiem97 on 6/8/13STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

Despite the unusually cold and rainy weather for June in Pittsburgh, neither the band nor the audience lost its livelihood. The lights display during every song was amazing, and the lead singer (Michael Angelakos) knew how to interact with the crowd and excite it. The band sounded great--I was surprised that they were able to recreate their uniquely electronic sound in a live setting! Overall, everything was very captivating; the 1.5 hours during which Passion Pit performed flew by!

  • Passionate Performance from Passion Pit

by JemEm on 6/8/13STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

Passion Pit is a band that performs with all the energy and excitement you would expect from such a dance friendly band. The music is amazing and their sound is perfect! They really know how to work a crowd and make the concert an experience for the audience. It's impossible to not enjoy. They really put their all into performing. The atmosphere at a concert like this is nothing but wonderful.

  • Passion pit did a phenomenal job

After seeing them perform it made me live their band more and more and sent me home eager to find out their next concert I was able to go to.

  • Better Than Expected

by Ogieboy on 6/8/13STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

The opening act was talented and somewhat similar to Passion PIt (unlike the F.O.B. concert I went to). Band was active and able to get the crowd involved. The atmosphere was amazing. Wonderful experience I absolutely recommend their concerts. There were only two negatives; the opening act came on an hour after the concert was supposed to start, and Passion Pit played for maybe an hour.

  • What an incredible show

by JtothaIzzo on 4/15/13Club Nokia - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Having never seen Passion Pit live before, I found myself going into the show a bit skeptical. Being a band so reliant on electronics, I wasn't sure how their music would translate in a live setting. Furthermore, I've often found myself wondering just exactly how Michael Angelakos is capable of hitting the astonishingly high, pre-pubescent-esque notes that he does. I suspected some amount of computer modulation was involved. With all these reservations, I walked into the concert not knowing what to expect... And I left absolutely amazed. This was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. I've rarely seen a band play with as much confidence, pizzazz, and razor sharp focus as I saw from these guys. Angelakos talked a little between songs every once in a while expressing heartfelt appreciation for our attendance, but for the most part, the band went right from one song into the next. In most of my concert experiences, the crowd goes crazy at the beginning and end, and there is a bit of a lull toward the middle as people get tired and the band goes through some of their filler songs. There was no such period with Passion Pit. There was a huge surge of energy filling the arena the entire night. Passion Pit sounded extremely tight and well-rehearsed. If I had closed my eyes and been able to tune out the audience, it would have sounded nearly identical to their studio recordings. I watched a recent interview with the band, and they talked about how they were purely focused on improving their performances at the moment. They had done the "party" thing, and they were now going to bed earlier, foregoing most of their former drinking and partying, and doing the necessary preparations to put on the best show possible every time they go out. And this really, truly showed. I cannot recommend seeing them live enough - it's been four days since the concert, and I'm still thinking about it. Their songs are still stuck in my head. This is one talented band, and I can't wait to see where they take their music next.

Great show, atmosphere, and drinks. Getting there was easy. My sister and I ate at Flemings prior to the show. The location was great. Made it easy to park, eat, walk around then join everyone else. There was no seating so you just find a great spot and enjoy the show. The sound was great so it really didn't matter where you were standing. They also had specials on there beers, so that is always a plus. I enjoyed my night.

  • Passion Pit's performance was so much fun!

by GoliathsGurl on 4/14/13Club Nokia - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I went to see Passion Pit at the Nokia theatre and had a great time! Tanlines opened for the band, their music was different and really chill. Once Passion Pit came on they were immediately engaging with the crowd, playing great song after great song! Not to mention they had an awesome color chaning light show as their background, I was really entertained! The venue's space made it just a little hard to see - I felt bad for my short friend who kept standing on her tippy toes! - but it was a nice space with room to jump and dance.

Passion Pit is always on point with their overall live performances. Everything from the instrumentation, vocals, lights and sound are great. Club Nokia is also a great venue to hold concerts.

Crazy good performance. Michael Angelakos definitely knows how to work up a crowd. Had us all shouting for an encore and man, did he deliver. GO SEE THEM IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE!
