Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour
Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.
With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."
What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?
Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.
During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.

I’ve never seen them before. It was a great show. Funny, artistic, we enjoyed the whole show. I would definitely see them again.
Parking is expensive $30-50. You can't bring a larger purse through security. Food and drinks are expensive. It is hard to see the performance from front seats.
We saw CdS ,last nite.Very different from "O". However, provided a very entertaining show of acrobatics & artistry.. Costumes and act were AMAZING..The artists are excellent performers. Their endurance levels are high.It was a added bonus to have some comedy intermingled. Bon Voyage to the cast..
It was one of the best performances I have ever seen. I loved it all ,from the acrobats to the wonderful ladybug love story.
Acrobatics were awesome as always. Very much enjoyed it.
Very entertaining show. Costumes , music and the acrobats (especially the acrobats) were exceptional. Need to see this one if you have 't yet.
Exciting, thrilling, awe-filled. Performers are brilliant, agile, superhuman.
The parking cost almost as much as one ticket. I will not be returning for this event to this venue for that reason.
I like it And Im collecting shows This is my 9th show i saw
Seen many Cirque du Soleil shows both in Las Vegas and intense. The atmosphere was great, but I think there could’ve been more aerial shots and a little more strength feats
I've seen a number of Cirque Du Soleil shows in the past few years. The new shows are good, but these older shows, are really so much better! I enjoyed Ovo immensely, and I hope we can see more of the older shows when they tour!
I have been to a lot of shows over the years, and I can honestly say this one up there with the best I have ever seen. The performers were out of this world. Their talent, strength, timing, personalities, were extraordinary! I loved everything about this show; the lighting, the music, the colors, the costumes; just everything! Way to go Cirque du Solieil! Thank you for a great day and I wish I could give more than 5 stars!!
Could you make it cheaper for the price of a ticket? really love the show's & try to see as much as I can.
The scenography, the performance, everything was incredible, we had a great time. I would love to go again.
I want to first say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Cirque du Soleil!!! I have attended various shows over the years in the greater Philadelphia area (Corteo, Volta, Amaluna, etc.) Although OVO was a great show and I take nothing away from the fantastic performers, however, this show was a little disappointing - the acrobatics was a little lapse in that there wasn't a whole lot of it. I also love the band - they jam! but I didn't come see a singer and a guitarist perform nor did the tight rope walker on what looked like a banana didn't impress me or my husband! The floating lights with the performer in a lighted suit in the dark seemed to be substandard for Cirque! I understand that the size of the venue limits performances, but c'mon - pick a bigger venue! I really enjoyed the pole performers - too bad it wasn't longer! My absolute favorite part was the wall jumpers/bouncers - they were sooo cool, but again, could have been a little longer! I continue to LOVE Cirque du Soleil and amazed by the performers, but this show needs a little tweaking. I spend alot of money to experience the wonder of Cirque every time they come to my area - I'm a little disappointed with this show!
From the swelling music, to the intricate costumes, from the uniqueness of every and each artists, the performances were overwhelmingly, dazzling. Ethereal delightful performances full of wonderment, humor and complexity. Thank you to all of the performers, and those behind the scenes also.
Traveling shows rarely seem to compare to their Vegas counterparts, and this was no exception. This felt more like a typical circus performance, and to be honest, I have seen better circus shows in mall parking lots. The humor was terrible, there were no breath taking moments, and the variety of performers were typical. I was overall disappointed.
Cirque du Soleil did it again. OVO was a great show! The acts were fun, and amazing. Thfinale blew me away... "surely they are not going to.... oh WOW!! they did!!" So amazing!!!
Took my family, including my 7-year-old son to see Cirque du Soleil for the first time. Loved it, especially the Brazilian music.
