Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour

Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.

With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."

What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?

Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.

During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.

  • Great show

by Samantha on 8/12/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 4 out of 5

I love Cirque shows. This was my 12th show and it was great. I just feel like the acts could be more entertaining. I miss the sets from the past that included more acrobatic and challenging acts. Nothing really made me say, "wow"so much like it used to. I don't know if it's because of safety reasons, but the shows just aren't as entertaining as they used to be.

  • Great show, poor seats

    by BigDoc07 on 8/11/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 4 out of 5

The show was excellent as many of the Cirque du Soliels are. We paid for close seats, but the venue was narrow folding chairs. The people next to us had high BMIs, and forced us to sit literally "on the edge of our seats,"and my bottom was 25% into the aisle and against the lateral metal of the chair. I was sore for four days with some bruising. It made a delightful show painful. I am in remorse for paying that price for a terrible seat.

  • amazing show/uncomfortable seats

by circus girl on 8/10/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 5 out of 5

The show is amazing. I know a lot of people don't go to them anymore they just watch videos but I'm telling you, just go see them live. amaze balls!! The venue was so-so. biggest issue was I sat on the floor and what they did is take these tiny little old fold-out seats and crammed them so closely together that you're rubbing hips with strangers next to you. I just told the lady next to me that we were going to be good friends because what else do you do but laugh about it? I mean there was literally no reason they couldn't have put at least an inch on either side of the seat so that your elbows weren't banging your neighbors ribs

My second Cirque show. My husband and I sat there mostly with our mouths wide open and muttering how do they do that… The first show he went for me, but ended up enjoying it so he was excited to go again, which I am extremely thankful for!

It was OK, but definitely not great or what I would recommend to my friends Or family to see.

  • For kids or your first Cirque du Soleil, otherwise no

by TT on 8/6/25Hertz Arena - EsteroRating: 2 out of 5

It's Cirque du Soleil so you can never say it's horrible. But I would say this was my least favorite of the Cirque du Soleil shows. There was no plot to speak of that I could see other than I guess there was a lady bug that wanted to establish romantic relations with another insect. The other than that, I have absolutely no idea what the theme or the plot was on this. It was basically a variety act with the theme of insects. But, watching insects in real life probably had far more plot than the show itself did. If you have little kids or your brand new to Cirque du Soleil, then great, you should go see it.

  • Delight & Awe

A fantastic performance for all ages. Escape to a fantasy land of beautiful costumes and characters who fly, climb, tumble with such grace and skill. While there is no dialogue, there are humorous moments which further engage the audience.

  • Needs improvement

by MRCTLC on 8/5/25Hertz Arena - EsteroRating: 3 out of 5

Characters were fine but couldn’t understand what they were saying. (English/Spanish?) The rope stuff is boring but still talented acrobatics. Storyline??? No intermission is needed. Second half of show was fantastic. Song(s) in Spanish. We love Cirque Solie’ been to 6-8 of these shows this was the Second worst to KA. Nothing to do with show but $33+ for parking is ABSOLUTELY ROBBERY!!!

  • Great show , Seats where not great

by Bn on 8/5/25Hertz Arena - EsteroRating: 3 out of 5

I looked for seats upfront and paid more so I could be see everyone and watch the show unobstructed, But being round the side I missed anything going on on the front of the stage. I did however think the show , music and costumes were wonderful .
