Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour

Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.

With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."

What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?

Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.

During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.

  • Cirque du soleil Philadelphia OVO

by Lisa on 7/14/25Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first Cirque du Soleil show! The costumes and set was absolutely amazing, and with the ability to the agile in those costumes! I enjoyed each of the performances with a greater appreciation for the trampoline act and the juggling lids and people act! I think that America's Got Talent took some of the "wow"factor out for me on some of the acts because i've seen them multiple times, but I still very much enjoyed them! The only thing that kind of confused me, is why you chose not to use words when the 3 main bug characters were so-called talking to each other. As an adult, I could follow that, but I think if a child was watching it, it may have been a little weird and confusing even though they would still enjoy the show!

  • Overall good show

Me and my son really enjoyed the show I will say this the next time they come to Philadelphia I’m going again. I had a great time from start to finish

  • Great show!

by Sara on 7/14/25Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was absolutely incredible and breath taking I can’t even tell you how many times I held my breath “to save the very skilled performers” HAHA clearly my breathing made a difference! The Wells Fargo staff were disrespectful. They were interruptive, constantly chit chatting really loud right in the ally which caused a bunch of us in the rows around them to glare at them inferring they were entirely too loud. I’d otherwise love to hear about their day and complaints about the attendees, but not during the active performances. They had music blasting in the hallway at one point as well which overpowered the performance for our section. That was the worst part of the whole experience but the show itself was 100/10 and I would absolutely go again!

  • Loved it! Whimsical, full of life and music and laughter

by Circus girl on 7/9/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best Cirque shows I have seen. It was perfection from the moment the "bees"walked out in their bright yellow rain boots. Strongly recommend.

  • Great show, amazing talent.

by Essaysmith on 7/9/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 5 out of 5

Had what would be considered nosebleed seats, but the view was still great. Not really a bad seat in the house. A great show that involved the audience (those with floor seats) and spilled off the stage.

  • People who are unable to attend.

I am writing because there are a high number of fans who would love to see the show but are housebound because of different health reasons. It would be amazing if there was some way you could broadcast the show. I am sure people would not object to paying for this amazing experience. My sister loves your show but is housebound . I am sure she is not the only one.

  • Ovo

by Rw on 7/9/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 3 out of 5

The show was colourful, the artists were as incredible and flexible as ever. The music played by the live musicians was beautifully rendered. This is my 6th time seeing Cirque du Soleil, but this one was a bit of a let down. Also, we were seated right in the line of some stage lights that burned through our eyes most of the show. That was not comfortable or pleasant.

  • I had way too high an expectation

by Maximum on 7/9/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 3 out of 5

It was fun for young children I think, but as an adult meh, glad to see it though! Off the bucket list!

  • Captivating! A Must See!

by SNHall on 7/8/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to a Cirque Du Soleil show before(Echo) and was looking forward to seeing another one. Ovo, looking at it from adverts didn't seem that interesting, but I was wrong. It was amazing. Everything from the balancing acts, high flying acts and the commentary was on point and great to experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

  • Poor experience, Cirque du Soleil

by GrandpaJ on 7/8/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 2 out of 5

Cirque du Soleil Should only be seen in a tent where you are close to the stage. In a Canada Tire centre arena we were to far from the entertainment and as a result our grand kids weren’t really invested in the show so at intermission they asked to leave. We have been to many Cirque du Soleil shows in tents and they loved them. This experience was poor value all around.

  • Little Lackluster and boring

by Andy on 7/8/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 3 out of 5

The Ovo show marks just the 2nd Cirque show that I've seen, my 1st show was seeing Lutzia in Montreal which was AMAZING, so I was excited to see another show coming to Ottawa and reviewing the highlights it looked very entertaining and worth going to see. Prior to purchasing the tickets, I did see some mixed reviews on if it was worth seeing and there was a lot of people that said the show was boring and some even left in the middle of it, but I still wanted to see it so went ahead and bought the tickets. Since I only have Lutzia to compare it to, OVO has nothing on that show and I can see why people left throughout the performance, absolutely nothing against the performers as they do an amazing job however, I felt the overall show was very lackluster and a bit boring. It was bright with all the colors, lively and funny however felt this show was geared a bit more towards kids than adults, there was a lot of dancing type sequences in this one and not a lot of the "high flying"sort of sections which I thought was odd. When we saw Lutzia the show felt like it went on forever but seeing OVO felt like it was over in no time, felt very short and a bit rushed compared and I believe they were the same length. By far the 2nd part of the show after intermission was the most entertaining part for us, I can absolutely understand why it got mixed reviews - it really didn't hold your attention that much which was a bit disappointing. I am still going to see more Cirque shows as they do overall a really good job at putting on a good show and what the performers are able to do is crazy - for me OVO is a miss and wouldn't go see it again or recommend it unless you have kids.

  • Amazing Show

by LH on 7/8/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 5 out of 5

Very much enjoyed the show. It was my Mom's first time and she lives the show.

  • Worst Cirque ever

by Kathy on 7/8/25Canadian Tire Centre - KanataRating: 1 out of 5

The venue and staff were not suitable for a proper Cirque performance. Seating was so far from stage that it lacked any of the normal excitement, lighting was poor so hard to see performers (and we were in first level off floor), chairs were extremely uncomfortable. We sat more comfortably and in better seats at the cirque tent in Montreal. But even more annoying was seeing so much ugly equipment in plain view, usually Cirque make great effort to conceal and create illusion. Lastly, the security officials were far too obvious and way too many for the likes of a Cirque performance. They behaved like someone was going to “rush the stage”, quite over the top ! And ridiculous looking

  • Great

  • Really fun but a wee short of spectacular!

We enjoyed the performance but too much down time between acts. Also, weak story. Fun event, but not spectacular!
