Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour

Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.

With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."

What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?

Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.

During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.

  • OVO

by WayLow on 9/15/25Paycom Center - Oklahoma CityRating: 5 out of 5

I attended both the opening show on Thursday in Oklahoma City, and the Sunday Matinee. Both performances were awesome and captivating! The ambience in the arena prior to the start of the show was mesmerizing. It really elevated our curiousity of "what's about to happen?"The trampoline performance was my favorite.

  • Amazing show!

This show was so amazing. The skills they had, were unbelievable. The show kept you on the edge of your seat. I will attend again next year!

  • Great show, unfortunate layout

by Chris on 9/14/25Paycom Center - Oklahoma CityRating: 3 out of 5

this show is setup to take 1/2 of an arena. Unfortunately around a 1/3 of the arena is unable to see the closing act at the end of the first half. We purchased tickets that seemed to be great seats and were directly behind the acrobat setup where we could not see any of the activity. Felt like there should have been a disclaimer, our kids were extremely disappointed. Other than that, the show was tremendous.

  • Ovo (the second)

by Cathy on 9/14/25Paycom Center - Oklahoma CityRating: 4 out of 5

This show was very good. We saw the original a few years ago and I have to say that was a bit better, but would definitely recommend seeing this show. It would still be my 2nd favorite show right behind Drawn to Life!! We have seen 6 different shows since 2016 and even with the changes it's still a great show!!!

Cirque du Soleil is always wonderful! Have seen Totem, Corteo and now OVO. Already searching for the next show in our area!

  • Amazing

by Bev on 9/10/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

I had seen them before on TV but it doesn't do it justice. To view the show in person is beyond words.

Extremely entertaining, highly athletic and very professional! Not to be missed, ever!

by Mabru on 9/10/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

This show was so good, well done, no boring moments. It had beautiful costumes, incredible acrobatics and comedy. If I could afford it I would go again! My granddaughter and I loved it!

  • Enjoyable evening experience.

by Dano on 9/10/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

My wife and I enjoyed the show very much! The production was smaller than shows we've seen in Las Vegas, however the performers were very talented and some were quite impressive. There was a brief interruption of the performance with no explanation but overall we would recommend the show for both kids and adults.

  • Awesome!

  • Wonderful

by Kim on 9/9/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

I loved every minute of this show. I had only seen it on TV but being there was fantastic. They are truly gifted performers. Will go to another show if they come back in the future.

  • Excellent Acrobatics, Fair Comedy

by Andy on 9/9/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

The acrobatic acts were amazing and well worth seeing. One act, a guy riding a unicycle, was boring. The comedy skits between some of the acrobatic acts were ho-hum average. But overall we had a good time.

  • Disappointed

by Dan H. on 9/9/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

My wife and I love Cirque shows. We have been to multiple ones including traveling shows. They have all been fantastic. However Ovo was disappointing. Not sure there was any discernible story line. Below the usual energy level of most shows. And there was an unexplained interruption in the second act of the show. Definitely not what we have come to expect from Cirque shows.

  • PERFECTION

by TOG on 9/9/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

COS is for acts of perfection, plain and simple. Everytime we attended an event for COS, is very satisfactory and we really appreciate all the acrobats, they make it look easy.

  • Not as spectacular as previous Cirque shows

by Pia on 9/8/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

Ovo lacked the WOW factor of previous Cirque shows. The sets were disappointing, the story line was lacking, and the material (choreography) were all fairly standard. They seemed to have run out of creativity. If you had been to other Cirque shows, there was not much to write home about in this one. However, the acrobats and gymnasts were top-notch as always!

  • A mind blowing experience

by Tony on 9/8/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I had such a wonderful time. The precision and artistry in all the capable hands & even feet (foot jugglers) left no room for error. Impeccable high energy. The Stamina and focus among these elites was so next level. The time went by so fast. Worth the price. I am grateful to these performers for such dedication. Thank you to all involved.

  • Captivating show!!

by Janessa on 9/8/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

The performers were extremely talented and constantly left us in awe. The main characters of the performance had us constantly laughing & they were great at engaging the crowd. I would absolutely go back & recommend everyone sees this show!

  • Love the show but ...

by TonyM on 9/7/25First Horizon Coliseum - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

The show was excellent. The staff very helpful, and overall, we had a lot of fun. The seat arrangement was tight and a bit uncomfortable. This seems to be the usual for most shows trying to fill the spaces for maximum usage. But, aside from the show, the one issue I have with Ticketmaster was that when I signed up to see the show, they presented only the available seats, which made it appear that the arena was full and only a few available in my section, which was untrue. We could have sat up closer to the stage in a more unobstructive line of sight. This needs to be worked on with the arena and Ticketmaster offers.

  • What's upwith the egg?

by nobbon on 9/3/25Bojangles Coliseum - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

Always love Cirque du Soleil but Ovo was my least favorite. The acts were great but the storyline of the 2 bugs falling in love moved slow. I still don't know what the giant egg was all about. My more accurate rating would be 3 1/2 only because of the points stated.

  • Super OVO show

by Suedean on 9/3/25Bojangles Coliseum - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Great show music talent sets everything was outstanding even the intermission!
