Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour

Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.

With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."

What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?

Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.

During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.

by Pam on 9/2/25Bojangles Coliseum - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I have now seen 3 Cirque du Soleil performances and I have to say that the Charlotte OVO one was the most amazing!!! We were on the edge of our seats the entire time and I honestly do not know how these incredible performers did all of the stunts. The trampoline act near the end was truly breathtaking!!!

It was wonderful and amazing. We were so close to the action and Bojangles Coliseum was a great venue for Cirque de Soleil. The amazing abilities of all the performers is just astounding, the music was great and it was just a wonderful show and experience.

  • The Secret of Life.

by Taco of the Hill People on 9/2/25Bojangles Coliseum - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I love the circus. I saw 5 Cirque du Soleil shows last year. Ovo was my second this year. I will see Drawn to Life Friday. And Luzia in December. Bread and Circuses is a pejorative to most. But think about it honestly. A crust of good bread, food. Entertainment to bring a smile and lighten the soul, a circus. How is that a bad thing? Seeing the happy families at the show. Kids and performers too smiling. That is life. Work or more stupidly a career? Those are not meant to be your life. They are just meant to fund your life. Take that art class. Learn to play an instrument. Buy a Jeep or a motorcycle. Learn to sail. You are not promised tomorrow, make those memories today. Go see the circus.

Unbelievable performance as usual! They are all good, but this one was one of our favorites as far as the acrobatics!

  • As usual, Cirque knocked it out of the park!

by Patsy on 9/2/25Gas South Arena - DuluthRating: 5 out of 5

The music, the costumes, the stage, and oh, did I mention the artists, were AMAZING! This was my second time seeing the show live, and I've watched individual acts from it multiple times on YouTube. Can I repeat myself? AMAZING!

  • Fabulous

by Ellie on 9/1/25Bojangles Coliseum - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I had last seen Cirque du Soleil in the mid 90’s and remembered an amazing show. This show was just as amazing. The characters, costumes and of course the acrobatics were all wonderful and we had a great time.

  • OVO Performance

by Coltmc on 9/1/25Bojangles Coliseum - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

With early arrival, parking at Bojangles Coliseum is fantastic and a close walk to the venue. The performance of OVO was ok. Seemed more appropriate for kids, not so much for adults. Filler skits were cute, and the actors continued the movement between the performances. Several acrobatic performances were amazing, and some were just ok. Hard to identify many of he bugs, but most of the costumes were cute. Performers were well rehearsed and the show was entertaining.

  • Magical!

  • What talent!

by Zarky on 8/31/25Bojangles Coliseum - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

What talent and humor! Great mix of both! Need more Cirque du Soleil s in Charlotte. Bojangles Coliseum should of had more food stations open and Hungry Howies pizza were terrible. Hard and cold.

  • Not worth it

by Patricia on 8/22/25Kaseya Center - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

We previously went to a different show from circus soler “Alegría”. The show was spectacular so I thought this one should be something similar. This show was extremely boring that we literally almost fall asleep. We left early. Such a disappointment!

  • Cirque du Soleil...never disappoints

by Robert on 8/21/25Kaseya Center - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of Cirque du Soleil since its inception in the early 80s. I remember the first time hearing their advertisement as a circus without animals. The music, the choreography, the costumes, and the overall ambience inside the venue are priceless. Of course, as the decades have come and gone, the price of admission has been getting pricier and pricier. So not everyone can afford to see such a family-friendly performance. And that's a real shame. But those that can, they'll never go wrong. And if you ever make it to Las Vegas, the myriad of their shows there are all truly magnificent.

  • Unforgettable

by Yaque on 8/21/25Kaseya Center - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Ovo was beautiful and impeccable! It was impressive to see the work of the artists and how they entertained everyone.

  • Excellent show

by GerardoPM on 8/20/25Kaseya Center - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Cirque du Soleil is just magnificent. No animals and pure art. That is what any other circus should be. An experience for the whole family.

  • OVO

  • Ovo

by LG on 8/20/25Kaseya Center - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

I am been in almost every Cirque du Soleil that had come To Miami, I think I can probably make a right review based on pass experiences. They are Three at the top Alegria Corteo Nuba Ovo is just ok Just at the end of the second part THE SHOW COMES ALIVE with acrobatic elements used on the NUBA O VERY SIMILAR(love it) music was good The show in general lacks of excitement Is my honest opinion Even do they have good performers thru the show. But You don’t have to take my opinion The public reaction at the end caping the individual performers is the real review

  • Excellent!

by Mel on 8/20/25Kaseya Center - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

The performance was amazing! It was so much fun to watch how the performers moved and behaved like insects. A truly mesmerizing and memorable experience!

  • The show was wonderful

It seems to me that everything now days is about money and not personal experience. First of all when I arrived (on time) I was told my handbag was too big. It really wasn't and it was almost empty. I was told that there were lockers upstairs which I could rent for $15.00. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to open the locker and then what to do with my wallet, my telephone, etc. Has anybody given that any thought? A nice person in line to get in offered me a plastic bag which was about the same size as my handbag. Finally we come to security and my plastic bag gets x-rayed. What was the point of making me put it in a locker when it was going to be checked anyway. Just a waste of time and money. We missed about 15 minutes of the show but our seats were very good. I brought my 8 year old granddaughter to the show and during intermission of course she wanted some treats. Some of the booths were closed and lines were very long. No bell rang to announce that the show was about to begin so by the time we got the pretzel and the coke, we lost another 10 minutes of the show. Never again
