Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour

Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.

With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."

What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?

Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.

During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.

  • Once is not enough

by Gonzo on 10/18/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

I saw it twice—and I’d go again! It’s a masterclass in movement, sound, and spectacle. The athleticism is unreal, the visuals hypnotic. It felt like stepping into a dream where insects fly, tumble, and tell stories without words. OVO didn’t just entertain—it left me stunned, inspired, and wanting more.

  • Amazing performance

by Karen on 10/17/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

These athletes/performers are truly amazing. Every movement was executed perfectly. The "bug"theme was so cute and the costumes were beautiful! My favorites were the grasshoppers and the inch worm (I guess that's what it was)! The clowns were cute, too, but I didn't enjoy them as much as the acrobats. The acts got more and more difficult as the show went on. My favorites were the performers on the high stands swinging back and forth to each other and the trampolines/climbing wall. They made it look effortless and it was so fun to watch. I have told all my friends about it.

  • Enjoyable but not as WOW as expected

by DBon on 10/15/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 3 out of 5

It was enjoyable and there were some amazing acrobatics, but alot of they did was very familiar (same old same old) as what I have seen in the couple other shows I saw. I did not think the set was as spectacular as others, nor was there many ooohs and ahhhs. The story was a bit weak and never the egg mystery never came to any meaningful conclusion. I would see it with grandkids but it makes me less likely to want to see another CdS show otherwise.

  • Great Acrobatics Hokey Theme

by George on 10/15/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 4 out of 5

The aerial silks and acrobatics were amazing. The skits and storyline were hokey. The bugs gibberish language was annoying. Perhaps it is more for kids. I would gladly see Cirque du Soleil again but need to carefully choose the show.

by Erica on 10/14/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

We we're sitting sitting left side face front and was about to catch a lot of the acts head on still. It was fun and colorful keeping us entertained and engaged! We look forward to the next series that comes to Austin!

  • Ovo was so fun!

by KSmith on 10/14/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

Ovo was a fantastic show! It was funny, cute and perfect for a family, first date or just a casual date night. The story was well put together, the props were colorful as were the outfits of all performers! I was very impressed with the acrobats and just how well the show was put together as it flowed nicely from performance to performance! I love how they get the audience involved as well!!!

  • Nice venue

by MiMi on 10/14/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 4 out of 5

Moody Center is really nice. All kinds of food and drink available. Our seats had a great view of the stage. My only complaint are the chairs. If you are a big, tall person there is NO LEG ROOM. I sat between my husband and son, both over 6’. Both big. Because the chairs are so close together I felt like I was melting slowly. After 2 hours in the seating I was extremely stiff. So I will have to really want to see another show before I go back.

  • Always so impressive!

The show was fabulous, as always! I have loved every Cirque de Soleil show that I have seen, and I have seen many!

  • Mediocre experience

by Chad F. on 10/14/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 3 out of 5

I’ve been to 6 Cirque shows and this was the slowest one. The show was good except, it was very redundant. They had about 3 acts that were pretty much identical just different costumes. I brought a guest from out of time and spoke so highly of the show, she was about to fall asleep. The couple next to me ask had I been and I spoke highly about the show, well they left 15-20 minutes before it ended. This shows definitely needs a revamp.

  • Awesome show-expensive venue

by Angel on 10/14/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

The show itself was awesome. The costumes, all the different acts everything was great.. however, the venue itself was ridiculously expensive. Seven dollars of water, 18.50 for a beer, and $20 for popcorn, $65 for parking. it was a little steep for what you got. No wonder that place was half empty.
