Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour

Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.

With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."

What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?

Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.

During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.

  • Outstanding!

Cirque du Soleil never disappoints. We took our 5 year old granddaughter to her very first show and all we heard all evening long was “Wow.” The performances were breathtaking; can’t wait for the next show.

  • Go See OVO!

by avid Cirque fan on 10/13/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

I saw OVO last September and went to see it again this year. There are several new acts and I really liked the addition of the skills presented. These are amazingly talented athletes! The music was great and the presentation was eye catching, Super show!

  • Great Show/Confusing Seating Chart

by Sonia on 10/13/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

The show itself was great. However, we were much further to the side of the stage than I thought we would be based upon the seating chart I saw during the presale.

  • Great show

A great show. Cirque du soleil shows only come to this area once a year and i always have to see them. They are fantastic and well worth the money to see them.

  • Better than the first time!

by Gin on 10/12/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! Same general theme, but the acrobatics and arial performances were outstanding. Recommend to anyone who appreciates skill, enthusiasm, and great music!

  • Very easy overall

by Pat S on 10/12/25Moody Center ATX - AustinRating: 4 out of 5

Entering and Moving around inside the venue are easy. BUT Leave LOTS of time to park, or to walk half a mile from the designated ride share drop-off corner. AND Beware pedicab prices. One driver was a gentleman and just charged $10 for a five-minute ride. Another whined and tried to guilt-trip us into paying $60 for the trip back.

  • Missing acts

by Don on 10/4/25Frost Bank Center - San AntonioRating: 4 out of 5

There seemed to be a couple of acts missing from the show. Was shown in the promotion trailer but not in the actual live show. This was my 5th Cirque show over the years but my least favorite.

  • Big disappointment

by Jo on 10/3/25Frost Bank Center - San AntonioRating: 1 out of 5

I’m afraid this was a BIG letdown for us. It was definitely not up to the very high standard you come to expect when you go to see a Cirque du Soleil show. We were really disappointed with the quality of the set and the storyline was not great either. Having seen many shows in London and Las Vegas, this show, which we saw in San Antonio, was a huge disappointment. Sorry to say, we would not recommend this show to anyone we know.

  • Ovo Is About A Mysterious Egg - You’ll Learn Nothing About!

by William Oh on 10/1/25Frost Bank Center - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

The show opens with a ginormous egg on the stage. During the show and between acts the egg reappears. But what is it and when will all be revealed? Turns out, it’s a show with a very weak plot and frustrating ending. In the meantime, ten (10) or so acts are revealed AND with varying degrees of hardship and skill. Altogether, it’s a good show, just please know, there is no story to unfold, nothing to be learned. In short, there are certainly better shows by Cirque du Soliel but she’s entertaining non-the-less.

  • very entertaining

Very unusual act and story. Never found out what was in the egg. Characters performed admirably. Extremely enjoyable. Had to be prepared for anything and everything. Was a fabulous show.

A Vegas style show, worthy of your time. Excellent!

  • Jaw-Dropping!

by jgg57 on 9/29/25Frost Bank Center - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

As always, Cirque du Soleil never fails to over deliver. Ovo is more than worth the drive, flight, or whatever transportation you have to take to get to one of the performance destinations. In the air, on the ground, on a pole, even on walls; the performers were so amazing that the audience didn't want to applaud after a spectacular feat because we didn't want to startle the performer!! Thank you for another memorable life experience!

  • Great family fun

Excellent! Seats in front of stage so really saw beautiful makeup and costumes! Good venue! Complaint: poor access to restrooms! Had to walk up many many steps to only one floor that was open!! Had restrooms on other floors but no access to those floors!!
