Beautiful Experience
by Fierywolf on 12/26/18Keller Auditorium - PortlandI really enjoyed this years production more then I have in previous years. It was more brilliantly portrayed this year because they actually brought in some of the school's older children to play many of the principal parts(Sugar plum, cavalier, snow drop) so on and so on. Some of the more "elder" roles in the productions must be played by more experienced dancers from the school in my opinion, in years past they have tried to pass off younger members in those key roles and sadly for me that just left the production and portrayal of the story lacking in depth. Clearly the roles of Clara and to some extent her nutcracker prince can be played by younger members, but the quality of dancing for some of the pieces like the Grand Pas De Deux and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is more believable when they are played by the more experienced dancers. I was more than pleased with this year's nutcracker and my young niece(who was seeing it for the first time) highly enjoyed herself.
