  • Best Nutcracker Yet

by PDX Tim on 12/23/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I've been going to the Nutcracker, on and off, for nearly 20 years and this was the best set design and scenes I can remember. Dancing and costumes were fantastic as well and of course, the Sugar Plum Fairy is always a high light. Take the family and enjoy a classic!

  • Spectacular Perfromance

by Bozo. on 12/22/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

The music is always great. The performers are well trained and most are top notched dancers. I marvel when watching them.

  • Nutcracker

    by J. D. on 12/22/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the production including the skill of the dancers to the sets. I will not attend again, & have told my friends how disappointed I was.

  • The quality has depreciated.

    by J. H. on 12/22/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

The music was recorded, not a live orchestra. The dancers could not keep in time with the music. The choreography was subpar.

  • Excellent!!

by Kspanpdx on 12/21/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Beautiful show and excellent presentation. As a dancer myself, I was looking forward to some wonderful ballet performances. I was not disappointed and was brought to tears more than once. Serious talent!! My 7 year-old daughter loved it as well, as her first Nutcracker experience. I look forward to going again next year!

  • Nutcracker

    by L. T. on 12/18/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

As our first experience to the Portland Nutcracker it was truly amazing, we couldn’t believe the costumes, the beautiful sets, and the ballet was just beautiful. The music incredible. So much more than we ever expected! We took a six-year-old and eight-year-old I don’t think I would’ve taken them in years past but we were ready to step up our game to the professionals, they were able to sit still through the entire thing. I don’t think I would sit past section Orchestra M, our seats were just ideal for viewing everything at a nice distance.

  • Still Worth It

by Chelsea on 12/17/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

I've been going to this ballet yearly for thebpast few years, and this is the only time I've experienced anything worth complaining about. So, the orchestra was perfect, the dance itself was lovely as usual, the set was gorgeous. The only thing that bothered me was that, during the Dance of the Snowflakes, there was a giant cross in the sky in the background. I don't remember that ever being a feature of the ballet before. As a non-Christian, I always particularly enjoyed the ballet because it feels festive and seasonal, but without the constant bombardment of religious imagery. It's always felt welcoming to me. The addition of this unnecessary bit of religious imagery (I mean, what about snowflakes has anything to do with religion?), it just...kind of soured the experience for me, and broke the immersive magic of the sounds and sights. It's not the hugest deal, and I'll probably go again, but it did feel unnecessary and alienating.

  • Stellar!

What an enjoyable experience of this classic holiday tradition! It was very fresh and enthusiastic. We had a tremendous time!

  • Loved it!!

My granddaughter and I had a blast. The dancers and orchestra were outstanding. We’ll be back next year.

  • Exceeded expectations and wonderful start to holiday season

by Shae on 12/10/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Haven't been to the Nutcracker in years, but took my dad & wife and kids (ages 8-boy & 10-girl). The performance exceeded my expectations in every way- live orchestra was amazing as were the dancers. Granted we had great seats (Section B, Row K). The level of talent in this production was amazing. My kids were absolutely engaged and my daughter now wants to take ballet lessons. Was a great experience and set the holidays off in great fashion!

  • Fabulously done

by Proud Cha Cha on 12/10/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

We attended the opening afternoon and evening performances and it was amazing. The principles were excellent but so were the supporting dancers in Snow and Flowers. Wonderful!!!!!

  • Great Christmas Kick-Off

    by M. S. on 12/10/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

OBT's Nutcracker was the highlight of a Portland weekend getaway for myself and my wife. The ballet was beautifully done. Everyone needs some sort of tradition to get their Christmas Season on track. OBT's Nutcracker will become ours. Next year we will take our grand daughter! The Nutcracker, along with two nights in a beautiful waterfront studio, holiday-season shopping in the downtown area, and good food all weekend long made for a wonderful escape from the house and the dog. Even though we were only 20 miles from home, it felt like we were in another world. We'll do it again next year!

Xuan Cheng and Peter Franc are dazzling in Scheherazade, their partnership is made in heaven. This production is a breath of fresh air!

  • Absolutely fantastic performance

by Marcia on 10/9/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Riveting performances. Each unique and stunning. Loved the costumes in the final performance. I would recommend ROAR to anyone!

  • Fabulous!

by Pilar on 10/9/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Loved every second of this show! The quality of dancers is exceptional, the variety of pieces was perfect, and the costuming and set design for Scheherazade was spectacular. It was so good I went back to see it a second time!

  • Great dancing / music too loud- audience abuse

    by J. D. on 10/8/19Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

All three pieces were beautifully and proficiently danced, proving that OBT has world class skills and artistry. However, the first piece of the evening was ruined by the high volume of the electronic music. I stopped appreciating the piece. OBT knew IN ADVANCE that the music would be too loud, as they provided free ear plugs. Sadly I remember that element more than the artistry of the OBT orchestra in the last two works.

  • Great School Performance

    by P. T. on 6/18/19Newmark Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the performance was nice. These were not professionals, but aspiring performers. The students performed at different levels depending on experience. There were some sections that were extremely good. I can recommend the annual performance, however, do not expect the type of performance you would see at the Met or from Bolshoi.

  • OBT The Americans - June 14, 2019

    by S. R. on 6/17/19Newmark Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

The three ballets presented Friday night were excellent. My friend and I had a hard time deciding which we liked best.
