OPETH IN CONCERT:

Swedish progressive metal rockers Opeth are all about keeping listeners on their toes. The band's technically virtuosic jams are a study in contrast, juxtaposing brutal guitar riffing with soft acoustic passages and blood-curdling death growls with melodic choruses. Their live shows play up these opposing elements perfectly, hitting fans with a maelstrom of moods and textures that run the gamut from heart-pounding to serene. At the center of it all is frontman Mikael Akerfeldt, a magnetic performer whose dynamic voice and wild-eyed intensity is the driving force behind ambitious compositions like "Sorceress" and "Will O The Wisp." He's joined on stage by a motley crew of shredders who keep the energy cranked to the max on guitar, bass, drums, and Mellotron – a unique keyboard instrument that lends an eerie, otherworldly vibe to the band's songs. Metal fans looking to have their minds blown continue to turn out in droves to see Opeth play, and they're never disappointed by the band's hard-hitting, adventurous sounds.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Opeth formed in Stockholm in 1990 and spent their early years playing a straight-ahead brand of death metal featuring blast beats and aggressive vocals. By mid-decade the band had begun incorporating elements of jazz, blues, and even classical, and their 1995 debut album Orchid was roundly hailed by critics for its unique blend of styles. The band released three more albums in the '90s but didn't start touring until the release of 2001's Blackwater Park. That album sold nearly 100,000 copies in the US alone, a major feat that drew the band out on their first world tour. By the end of the '00s Opeth was a fixture on the Swedish charts, and American audiences weren't far behind – both 2011's Heritage and 2014's Pale Communion cracked the Top 20 on the US Billboard 200. The band released their 12th studio album Sorceress to another round of critical acclaim in 2016, and followed up with more face-melting sets on their Sorceress World Tour.

    Metal is back!!

by Lisa on 11/22/21The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Much anticipated tour. Love both headliners, but Opeth was my reason for going. Venue was stunning, crowd was respectful and all the bands including opening act sounded excellent. So happy to see bands back on the road again!!

by BrettD on 11/22/21The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

The palace theater is amazing! Well kept and clean, very accessible from directions to restrooms and staff! Definitely would attend another show there again. (Hopefully for a another mastodon event)

Missed the opener because there was no door time

by Dennis on 11/21/21Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

I bought tickets to this show specifically to see Zeal and Ardor. The event didn't list a separate door time and show time, unlike every other rock show I've ever been to. I interpreted the 7:00 start time as the time doors opened and as a result got to the venue just in time to watch Zeal and Ardor leave the stage.

Venue not conducive to Metal/Hard Rock

by Llama on 11/21/21Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

Why, oh why does Boston continue to book metal concerts at seated only venues. People want to dance and move around!!! Totally brings down the vibe of the show.

    Great music, poor mixing

by JTSkyRider on 11/21/21Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

Love mastodon - couldn’t appreciate them fully because the sound was mixed so poorly. Two of the lead singers were almost inaudible as well as the guitars.

    Huge disappointment

by beeshee on 11/21/21Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

Beautiful venue and a lineup of three of my favorite bands -- unfortunately, mask policies were ignored inside the venue and the headliner played an extraordinarily short set of obscure songs.

    Great Bands/Rough Venue

by Matty on 11/19/21Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

Firstly, this lineup was amazing. I believe the event was moved to a different spot within the center, because they did not give me the same seats I ordered (the tickets said relocation event). The concessions were ok, but the sound in that specific auditorium was rough, not great for these types of bands that play loud. Opeth was restrained enough to be clear, but even the drums were muffled more than they should have been. Mastodon just sounded like noise, same for Zeal and Ardor at times. I would love to see Opeth again in an outdoor setting, but I will definitely not be going back to the Asheville Event Center (or whatever it’s called)

    Great sounding venue

by Mike on 11/19/21Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

All 3 bands sounded phenomenal. Sound stage was dialed in. I would say confusion about where to go for ticket reassignment, theater GA seating instead of an open floor, and 2 out of 3 merchandise stands not being available or easily located after entering through the venue doors before the show were some of the negatives. This was the first night of the tour so some of these logistical hurdles are to be expected. Overall I had a great time. Beautiful venue spot and staff were very friendly and helpful if you had any questions.

    First concert

by Lea n dick on 11/19/21Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

This was my friend Richard's first concert and in the end I was jealous that it was better than my first concert. The show was amazing the talent those bands displayed was absolutely astonishing. I couldn't have asked for a better time, a better community of like-minded people or a better experience. The venue is just big enough with just the right amount of people to not feel overcrowded and I even ended up leaving with autograph vinyls which I will cherish for the rest of my life and pass on to my children to rock out to one day. Thank you to the bands and for the fellow patrons who helped make this experience perfect

Opeth - Amazing. Palladium- Not so much

    by W35 on 3/11/20Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Paid almost 300 for "Platinum Balcony" the padded lawn chairs and view were so bad we ended up standing in the General Floor all night. Take a pass on that Balcony its awful.

Graveyard was a superb opener. Opeth crushes it with a great set and light show. Apollo Theater was a very awesome venue to see a show!
