About

Broadway's musical comedy classic is the talk of the town! The New York Times raves, “ON THE TOWN takes your breath away." The Hollywood Reporter calls it "an explosion of pure joy," and The Wall Street Journal urges you to "see it as soon as you possibly can! ON THE TOWN is everything a great show should be!" With the biggest orchestra on Broadway and a 30-member cast of NYC’s most talented singers and dancers, ON THE TOWN tells the story of three sailors on a whirlwind tour of the city that never sleeps. With just 24 hours of shore leave, they’re eager to experience all that New York City has to offer… including a chance to discover love with the girl of their dreams.
Directed by Tony® winner JOHN RANDO (Urinetown, A Christmas Story) and choreographed by Emmy® winner JOSHUA BERGASSE ("Smash"), this big, brassy musical comedy features LEONARD BERNSTEIN’s “rapturous and red-blooded score” (Daily News), lyrics by COMDEN AND GREEN, and breathtaking dancing inspired by the original JEROME ROBBINS choreography. Playing at Broadway's beautifully restored Lyric Theatre, ON THE TOWN is "as fresh as first sunlight. ‘New York, New York’ feels closer to heaven” (The New York Times).

    Well Done Revival

by exit67 on 10/25/14Lyric Theatre - New York

On The Town had all the elements that makes for a fun day at the theater. Considering the star spangled cast of the original show and movie, this Broadway cast stepped up to the task. The singing, dancing and comedy of the cast were terrific. The costumes dazzled, the choreography delighted. And the Lyric Theater is also a star! A beautiful theater with great sound system; even sitting in the balcony I was able to see every facial expression and hear every word. Fun for the whole family!

On the Town was on the money

by Latinatrix on 10/24/14Lyric Theatre - New York

Music, dancing, vocals, scenery, costumes, venue, nearly impeccable. This is the kind of lyrics, score, and performance you go to Broadway for. I would've gone with 5 stars, but there was a flub or two. A female vocalist and a prop problem. In the play itself, the fact of Ms Turnstiles being a hoochy dancer but still a good person is kindof fuzzy. Once they get to where she dances, it doesn't "Pop".

    adorable musical

by MayerFan1 on 10/23/14Lyric Theatre - New York

I loved the music from the show and the dancing was out of this world. Picture 12+ sailors on stage swirling around. The ballet sequences were amazing and the female leads has show-stopping power. Madame Dilly is a scene stealer!

    Great musical and wonderful dancing!

by caliali on 10/23/14Lyric Theatre - New York

Wanted to see the play because I loved the movie with Gene Kelley and Frank Sinatra! It was well worth it and even though Gabey was played by an understudy it was still good entertainment! The dancing was very good and I just love the music. It was an older crowd but that's who remembers the music and the times.

    Fabulous Show!!!

by BetteH on 10/22/14Lyric Theatre - New York

Loved it from the opening number to the finale! The show has everything you can ask for in a Broadway musical. Singing and dancing performed by a talented cast and backed by great musicians, a 28 piece orchestra. And, oh the hilarious moments! LOL!

Brilliant show. We came from scotland wanting to see a show that was very New York. This was perfect and our 11 and 13 yr olds loved it too. Great production of a great show with a fabulous cast.

    Not to be missed

by TheatreAddictLV on 10/21/14Lyric Theatre - New York

The new revival is everything you remember from the old MGM musical, and so much more. The cast is awesome. The dancing is spectacular! The 28 piece orchestra is huge, by Broadway standards, these days. And it sounds absolutely amazing playing the brilliant Leonard Bernstein score. We loved every moment!

On the Town was the best!

by Anonymous on 10/21/14Lyric Theatre - New York

What a wonderful, total theatrical experience was On the Town! The dancing, singing, choreography, humor and staging were all simply grand. I don't know why it has taken so long for it to return to Broadway; I'm just glad it did in my lifetime. Mr. Bernstein, Mr. Robbins, and every gifted artist and contributor to this musical's past would be applauding those who have given the audiences of today something to cheer and remember! Give yourself a treat, see On the Town!!! You'll be glad you did!

    A Great Old Fashioned Musical

by jBS2 on 10/21/14Lyric Theatre - New York

I love Broadway shows and I see A LOT of them and unfortunately very few wow me anymore. But every once in a while a show comes along that does, and On the Town is that show. It's a great score with a fun story, and beautiful dances. The ballet sequences are incredible and the three leading men are the epitome of talent. The show's fun, energetic, and old school, which just goes to show that you "don't gotta get a gimmick". If you're going to do an old fashioned musical do it right, and On the Town delivers.

    wonderful show

by julywriter on 10/21/14Lyric Theatre - New York

If you love old fashioned Broadway, in the best sense of the term, then you'll love the revival of ON THE TOWN. It's not the film that omitted some of the best songs from the score. The show has even better dancing than the film with 6 outstanding performers, all of whom can sing and dance. There's not a weak link in this uniformly strong cast. The amount of dancing in this show is comparable to WEST SIDE STORY - it's there from beginning to end - with a stunning ballet near the end of the 2nd Act. There's a large cast of singers and dancers that are excellent and only add to the production. The book is corny, by modern standards, but it's played for laughs with no subtlety whatsoever, broad and bawdy. The orchestra has 28 members which is considerably larger than most on Broadway and they are terrific bringing to life Bernstein's gorgeous score. Overall, this was one helluva show!
