Broadway's musical comedy classic is the talk of the town! The New York Times raves, “ON THE TOWN takes your breath away." The Hollywood Reporter calls it "an explosion of pure joy," and The Wall Street Journal urges you to "see it as soon as you possibly can! ON THE TOWN is everything a great show should be!" With the biggest orchestra on Broadway and a 30-member cast of NYC’s most talented singers and dancers, ON THE TOWN tells the story of three sailors on a whirlwind tour of the city that never sleeps. With just 24 hours of shore leave, they’re eager to experience all that New York City has to offer… including a chance to discover love with the girl of their dreams.
Directed by Tony® winner JOHN RANDO (Urinetown, A Christmas Story) and choreographed by Emmy® winner JOSHUA BERGASSE ("Smash"), this big, brassy musical comedy features LEONARD BERNSTEIN’s “rapturous and red-blooded score” (Daily News), lyrics by COMDEN AND GREEN, and breathtaking dancing inspired by the original JEROME ROBBINS choreography. Playing at Broadway's beautifully restored Lyric Theatre, ON THE TOWN is "as fresh as first sunlight. ‘New York, New York’ feels closer to heaven” (The New York Times).

From the first moment, I was spellbound. I can't stop thinking about the colors! Dancing was delectable; orchestra outstanding. Voices were vibrant and the costumes filled with color!
This revival of a 70 year old show is an incredible, thrilling theatrical experience. The music by Leonard Bernstein is classic and with the large orchestra the score has never sounded better. The cast is unbelievably talented and the staging of the musical numbers is so ingenious that despite the age of the show, the songs all feel fresh and original. The dancing is absolutely the best I have seen in a Broadway show in many years. The sets are incredible. This show is 2 hours and 45 minutes of pure unadulterated entertainment and joy. It should have a long run on Broadway and should then go on the road so audiences everywhere can experience the thrill of this terrific production.
The show was amazing with fabulous choreographed dance numbers that have not been seen in a Broadway show for years!! It shows you that you can have a "minimal" stage decor but if you use the entire stage for large dance numbers it is impressive and memorable. The show does seem a little too long (ending at 10:45PM) on songs/dance numbers that are a bit extraneous to the show but overall still very enjoyable. I feel that the female star of the show (playing Ivy Smith) was an incredible ballet trained dancer but unfortunately the weakest actor.
We had fantastic seats right in front of the stage with plenty of leg room. Right up there! The theatre was a beautiful venue. But, unfortunately, the play was a complete bomb! It was frankly, boring. It was predictable. The script was tired. It was a remake but not changed a bit and I think it should have been brought up, at least a little bit, into the present. My daughter and I left at the intermission. We could not force ourselves to sit through the rest of it. It was a lot of money to throw out the window and a waste of our valuable time.
The dancing was awesome!!!! Especially the girl. It was a good old fashioned musical.
Go see this show! The taxi scene is worth the price of admission. We promise you will laugh, be beguiled, and so very sad when the curtain falls and evening ends.
Great Show - The Music and Dancing Was Just Wonderful !
We enjoyed it. Great singing, ancing and very humorous.
Devine music in contrasting with humor. Exquisite dancing. Great acting and singing. An uplifting show.
what broadway musicals used to be like in the good ole days.big orchestra, large cast of people who were born to entertain 8 times a week with incredible energy.wonderful cast of amazing people who can act ,sing ,and dance.gorgeous score from the genius lenny. the sets were eye popping .everything was sublime.comden and green, we miss you and will never forget all the great stuff you left us. despite the size of the theater, I could hear every word and yet it never seemed over miked. if you love musical theater, you'll love this production.. perfect evening.
Recommend you get to the Lyric Theatre to see a great revival of this 1940's musical. What Broadway is all about. Great choreography and just enough laughs.
On the Town is a big, bright, beautifully sung, danced, and acted show. The talented cast enticed the audience with its endless energy. It was flawless! Special kudos to Jackie Hoffman (its her turn for a Tony) and Tony Yazbek (a first Tony for Tony!). And a nice touch for the phenomenal orchestra to stand for a bow.
Music and dancing were excellent. Alysha Umphress, the taxicab driver, was amazing!
I recommend the new production of "On the Town" without reservation. The production seemed to capture the flavor of 1944 New York. The cast reminded me of the original members way back when, especially Alyssa Umphress, who channeled Nancy Walker in her role as Hildy, the cab driver. (And, no, she's not a relative!). She absolutely stole the show, in my opinion. The performances by all the cast were outstanding as well. And of course, there's the music by Leonard Bernstein. How could one go wrong? Also, we were very impressed with the choreography. The ballet sequences were beautifully executed. All in all, a wonderful theater experience, and suitable for all ages. Can't wait to go again!
Excellent show!! 28 piece orchestra with phenonmenal dancing! Pure joy!
