Broadway's musical comedy classic is the talk of the town! The New York Times raves, “ON THE TOWN takes your breath away." The Hollywood Reporter calls it "an explosion of pure joy," and The Wall Street Journal urges you to "see it as soon as you possibly can! ON THE TOWN is everything a great show should be!" With the biggest orchestra on Broadway and a 30-member cast of NYC’s most talented singers and dancers, ON THE TOWN tells the story of three sailors on a whirlwind tour of the city that never sleeps. With just 24 hours of shore leave, they’re eager to experience all that New York City has to offer… including a chance to discover love with the girl of their dreams.
Directed by Tony® winner JOHN RANDO (Urinetown, A Christmas Story) and choreographed by Emmy® winner JOSHUA BERGASSE ("Smash"), this big, brassy musical comedy features LEONARD BERNSTEIN’s “rapturous and red-blooded score” (Daily News), lyrics by COMDEN AND GREEN, and breathtaking dancing inspired by the original JEROME ROBBINS choreography. Playing at Broadway's beautifully restored Lyric Theatre, ON THE TOWN is "as fresh as first sunlight. ‘New York, New York’ feels closer to heaven” (The New York Times).
Enjoyed the show, music, dancing, costumes, humor, etc.
I loved this lavish production. The dancing was amazing, upbeat, and totally entertaining. There is something for everyone here - comedy, fantastic sets, and the singers were fabulous. I have already recommended this great musical to several friends, and they have purchased tickets. Don't miss this one!!
Way too long. Winding story. Performances were great but length made it challenging.
Regardless of forgettable music and old hat story line, the dancing was exciting and Misty Copeland was unforgettable.
Took our 16 year old daughter especially to see Misty Copeland and her fav So You Think You Can Dance winner, Ricky Ubeda. It was such a fun show with such amazing talent! She'll remember it forever!
Great music and dancing! Surprisingly sexy, but recommended for the whole family!
Show was okay......was very disappointed that Missy Copeland did not perform. .....how are you doing a 2 week run and not perform on the Saturday night show!
One of the best musical theatre experiences I have had in recent years. A brilliant revival, tremendously entertaining and touching. Full of heartfelt, youthful energy. And that incredible Bernstein score. I can't believe that this is closing, while the dull, overblown KING & I lumbers on.
This show was so incredibly entertaining !! The entire cast was tops! Funny, with incredible choreography and the acting was broadway at its best!! GO SEE IT!
Very talented cast led by Misty Copeland ..Wonderful dancing by Misty & the rest of the Cast who exhibited ballet, acrobatic & " gumby" skills. Thoroughly enjoyable !!
The show was amazing! Besides the amazing music and singing, the dancing was spectacular!! We saw Misty Copeland and she is not only an incredible dancer, but was also a talent in acting and singing! She dances so gracefully in ballet, but also shines in musical theater!!
Misty Copeland is perfection, and just wished there were more scenes with her dancing. Nice story line, but you guys could of kept the inappropriate foolery at the dance studio. I didn't care to see that foolishness. Misty made this show amazing.
In one of the most beautiful Broadway theatres, we were entertained by an extremely talented cast on Misty Copeland;s opening night. She was wonderful as were all the cast members. They exuded enthusiasm, professionalism, character, comraderie, talent and sheer enjoyment. The story was not dated, the set design was clever and the orchestra was part of the show as was the audience. We were informed that it was the birthdate of Leonard Bernstein which added to the specialness of the evening. We highly recommend this show and really do not understand why it is not more popular and thus closing next week. It will be missed but not by us because we had the foresight and fortune to have seen it.
I don't watch a lot of Broadway shows. When I found out that Misty Copeland was doing a limited engagement with this show, I was compelled to buy tickets for someone who is a huge fan of Misty and to see the show myself because I knew Misty was amazing. For my second Broadway show that I had ever seen, Misty and the rest of the cast on this show were amazing.
Wonderful entertaining show. The highlight for me was seeing the beautiful Misty Copeland playing the role of Ivy. Misty's beauty came through as she danced, sang and performed!
The overall production was superb. Each and every singer/actor/dancer lived up to expectations & exceeded them! Of course the highlight was Misty Copeland, but Tony Yazbek didn't disappoint either. Having a performer who is so multitalented - amazing voice, wonderful dancing and believable acting, was the only way to balance the fabulous dancing of Misty Copland. It was even more special to be able to see this production during the week of Leonard Bernstein's birthday. His music NEVER disappoints.
My daughter and I saw On the Town 8/25/15 at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway. I had wanted to see this show since it opened and was thrilled that I could get "2 for 1" tickets through ticketmaster. The seats were fantastic! We happened to be at Misty Copeland's first show as Ivy! Loved the play, loved the music, loved the dancing, loved everything about it!
Fabulous staging, sets, movement, dancing, voices. Misty Copeland was the frosting on the cake.
We went to see Misty Copeland as Ivy. We were on the edge of our seats the whole time. This show has it all, Comedy, Amazing dancing, great songs which make you want to run up there on stage and join in on all the fun. But, we just sat in our seats and were amazed at how great the show was. The Lyric theater is beautiful inside as well. Marble entry, winding stair case, chandeliers, all kinds of art deco finishes. What a beautiful building. If I could give 10 stars I would. Go see this production.
Loved the show, lots of dancing, great choreography, orchestra was awesome, and Misty Copeland is exquisite!
