About

Broadway's musical comedy classic is the talk of the town! The New York Times raves, “ON THE TOWN takes your breath away." The Hollywood Reporter calls it "an explosion of pure joy," and The Wall Street Journal urges you to "see it as soon as you possibly can! ON THE TOWN is everything a great show should be!" With the biggest orchestra on Broadway and a 30-member cast of NYC’s most talented singers and dancers, ON THE TOWN tells the story of three sailors on a whirlwind tour of the city that never sleeps. With just 24 hours of shore leave, they’re eager to experience all that New York City has to offer… including a chance to discover love with the girl of their dreams.
Directed by Tony® winner JOHN RANDO (Urinetown, A Christmas Story) and choreographed by Emmy® winner JOSHUA BERGASSE ("Smash"), this big, brassy musical comedy features LEONARD BERNSTEIN’s “rapturous and red-blooded score” (Daily News), lyrics by COMDEN AND GREEN, and breathtaking dancing inspired by the original JEROME ROBBINS choreography. Playing at Broadway's beautifully restored Lyric Theatre, ON THE TOWN is "as fresh as first sunlight. ‘New York, New York’ feels closer to heaven” (The New York Times).

oh, well, we'll catch up some other time

by epistolary on 9/8/15Lyric Theatre - New York

Brilliant show. If you didn't see it, you missed a golden opportunity. It's too late now. This show was robbed at the Tony's. This was a tour de force of perfect casting, direction, choreography, music humor and faithfulness to a masterpiece from 1944. Those of you who went to see other shows instead of On The Town missed a glorious revival of a work of art. I am weeping that it closed. It is an injustice that it was forced to close. Bravo to all involved in this On the Town. A plus in every department.

The show was boring. Nothing exciting as a Broadway show should be. Total waste of money.

Standard good musical but a little flat

by Columbus123456 on 9/6/15Lyric Theatre - New York

Music and dancing are good. Misty Copeland was very good. On the disappointing side -- the seats are fairly small and the overall production fell flat.

    EXCELLENT!

by MsLisJ on 9/6/15Lyric Theatre - New York

The whole cast was great and the performances brought a smile to my face. Misty Copeland brought an added greatness to the performance and made it unforgettable. With her grace and presence, you felt personally engaged. Also the Lyric theater has great seating and concessions. Highly recommend this venue.

We absolutely loved it...even tho her role is small...she is a bright new star in the production. All are wonderful especially the three guys!

This was all a Broadway show should be and more. Glad we got the chance to see it before it closes. Misty Copeland was a special treat.

    Ok but nothing really special

by willypoint on 9/5/15Lyric Theatre - New York

The best part of the performance was the national anthem at the beginning! It went somewhat downhill from there. We went to this show primarily to see Misty Copeland and we weren't disappointed.

    Great performance by Misty Copeland!

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Misty Copeland dance in this musical, which is heavy on the dancing. The rest of the cast was great too, especially Tony Yasbeck.

Had a great time-again- at ON THE TOWN, the best show this past year and for many years. The dancing was better than ever and I went the second time to see Misty Copeland as Ivy. She didn't disappoint.

    Enjoyable

by taibailey on 9/2/15Lyric Theatre - New York

I'm glad that I was able to see this classic broadway show that is reflective of the broadway tradition. It celebrates the 'old' NY and helps the viewer regain an appreciation of this great city. The dancers and actors were amazing, which is also attributable to the wonderful choreography, writing and musical scores. I would say that this a must-see for anyone who is a Broadway aficionado.

    Day Trip to New York

by CherylYLB on 9/2/15Lyric Theatre - New York

The play was incredible. It was a last minute decision for the family to take one last outing before the summer ended. The advertisement popped up on my computer saying that this was the last two weeks and the play was closing. I am so happy that we went because we were able to see Misty Copeland, the first African American premiere dancer for the American Ballet Theater. She was wonderful in her first Broadway play. Our family thoroughly enjoyed it. We left the event fulfilled and extremely joyful.

    On The Town was delightful

by ehawk849 on 9/2/15Lyric Theatre - New York

The time was the 1940's and three sailors have 24hrs "On The Town" to have fun and possibly find love and romance. Misty Copeland who played Ivy Smith was fantastic along with the entire cast. The dance songs were lively and well choreographed to bring out the best performance of all the performers. Misty Copeland was amazing and I enjoyed seeing her in this type of show for the first time.

    On the theTown--oh what fun!

by katehep on 9/1/15Lyric Theatre - New York

A great score! Terrific, energetic cast. Book/story is trite--old-fashioned; out-of-date. I suspect 'Town' didn't do superb box office--despite raves reviews-- because the word-of-mouth wasn't strong because of plot.
