OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW

RETURN TO AUSTRALIA IN SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

PERFORMING “BLONDE ON BLONDE”

WITH SPECIAL GUEST VALERIE JUNE

Acclaimed Statesiders OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW will return to Australia for the first time in eight years to play a string of East Coast dates this September and October, in addition to their already-announced performance at the Caloundra Music Festival. On their Australian shows, Old Crow Medicine Show will pay tribute to their music icon, Bob Dylan, by playing his seminal 1966 album, Blonde On Blonde, in full.

Hailing from the Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Memphian and fellow Tennessean VALERIE JUNE, who has shared the stage with the likes of Sharon Jones, Sturgill Simpson, Jake Bugg and more, will join Old Crow Medicine Show on their Australian run, rounding out an authentic ‘Taste of Americana’ double-bill for local audiences.

Old Crow Medicine Show and the beguiling Valerie June promise to deliver a night of authentic Tennessee tunes when they touch down in Australia later this year, traversing country, blues, roots and more, with a little bit of soul and gospel thrown in for good measure.

  • If it's at all possible, you must see this.

by OCMSFAN on 8/8/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Felice Bros were a hit- Gillian and Dave were wonderful-all of them together: what an unbelievable crowd. You've got to make it happen. Get there.

  • WOW

by rickbagger on 8/8/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I wasn't sure what to expect from this show- I am a huge Felice brothers fan but knew very little about the others sharing the bill. Well, I was glad I went because the show was fantastic. Justin Towne Earle seemed to channel a little of Hank Williams and Billy Mays- his style was engaging, well defined and musically impecable. His sideman ( name unknown) complimented him perfectly The FB were their usual free spirited, high enegy selves. The shorter set had them concentrate on their more upbeat tunes. As a fan, I would have enjoyed a little more but the show definetly did not suffer from the truncated (60 minute) set. David Rawlings and Gillian Welch were the show stealers; not knowing DR I came away in awe of his virtuosity. He segued Cortez the Killer into one of his acoustic masterpeices. Unreal set. The OCMS were as expected- high energy but I failed to get the whole experience. No doubt amazingly talented and audience pleasing but I need a little more exposure to their stuff to fully appreciate. Benchmont Trent accompanied all and was the understated MVP of the night. The show was bifurcated into 2 90 sets. At the second sets end, all came out on stage to support the finale. The FF's rythim section started Michael Jackson's Billy Jean and all joined in for a interesting take. The encore included a more expected cover of The Band's the Weight. All in all, one of the best shows I have seen in years. The musicianship on that stage at any time was overwhelming. All supported each other and the energy was at peak level throughout. Bottom line- the performers had fun and so did the appreciative crowd. Don't miss it!

  • 4 Band Free-for-All Delivers!

by TweedMatador on 8/8/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

A must see for fans wanting to know what the state-of-the -art in the folk and acoustic genres. While the boys from Old Crow Medicine Show deliver the goods on sheer showmanship, pep. and giddy-up, the duet of David Rawlings & Gillian Welch stole the show.

very high energy. great show. you should definitely see this!

  • The Big Surprise is worth all the excitement!

by Dunmore on 8/7/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton BeachRating: 4 out of 5

OCMS knows how to have fun. Every performer at the "Big Surprise" was having fun. They came out rocking and kept going for over 3.5 hours. Justin Townes Earle was tremendous (I bought is new album the next day - if you have not listened to him before - do it). The Felice Brothers were OK - they played hard; however, their sound was loud and a downer at times (the guy with the accordion rocks)! Dave Rawlings and Gillian were cool - I wish Gillian was not always in harmony. OCMS were what I expected and can't wait to see them again. The show was eclectic and worth seeing! I can honestly say that I have never seen a gig like this before (i.e. BIG SURPRISE)!!! If you have a chance to see them - do it.

outrageous show full of great tunes and unbeatable energy.

  • Not the right venue

by Egearity on 8/7/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The acts we incredible. Great chemistry. Unfortunately the venue seemed incapable of keeping up with the energetic pace. There were as many as 16 musicians moving about the stage, each playing several different instruments, and it appeared that the sound board operator just couldn't make sense of it.

  • justin townes earle was rockin

by Cedars on 8/7/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Crowd sat back and enjoyed the music but once a song was over it sounded like game 7 at the world series. Only NYC can pull off a show like that.

  • My ears are still ringing!

by frankiesgun on 8/7/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

15 players on stage at times, the music was raucous! And then when their was just two, like Dave and Gillian, it was sublime. A real musical event. And the Beacon shined.

  • Big Surprise Tour at Beacon

  • Great surprise!

by prindleroad on 8/7/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I bought tickets to see Dave and Gillian, but was happily surprised by Justin Townes Earle, Felice Brothers (less so) and Old Crow MS (more so).....but Dave and Gillian's set to open the second half was the hightlight for me, and their cover of Bob Dylan's Queen Jane Approximately was one of the best live performances that I have ever witnessed....truly incredible!

  • big surprise tour was great

by Mandolin on 8/7/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Big fans of Gillian and David, especially after just seeing them do 2 sets at Newport. Also big fans of Felice Brothers. Combining these musicians with Old Crow was brilliant. The musicians recombined all night long, playing with each other and all together at the end, which was incredible, so much fun and great music! Less of a fan of Justin Townes Earle, but he held his own pretty well and blended in. I would like to know whose brain child this was and who put together all of the musical for the tour. Anyone know?

  • A Big Big Big Surprise Show!

by cjmateer on 8/7/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing! Every Act (Justin Townes Earle, Felice Brothers, Dave Rawlings + Gillian Welch, and the OCMS) were each outstanding!!!! I've seen Gillian and Dave play before but not the others. Every act was different and full of their own personality. Also- I've never heard the Felice Brothers before last night- and I am totally converted into an instant fan. I cannot wait until they swing back through NYC. Awesome!

Awesome show. Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welsh were great as usual!

  • Great Show!

by Cranbone on 8/6/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

First OCMS show and first time at the new House of Blues. Both the show and the venue did not disappoint! My only gripe is that of the 4 bands that played, it seemed that the Old Crow was set was the shortest, though I could be wrong. I had seen reviews of other shows where they played 20+ songs, if they played 10 last night it would be generous - what they lacked in quantity they made up for in quality. Thankfully the other bands did not disappoint, especially the Felice Brothers. I had never heard of them before and by the end of the night I was buying 2 of their CDs. Members from each band sat in with each other on the majority of songs, and on some it seemed their were 15 people on stage. They really seemed to enjoy playing with each other. I felt at moments like I was present at the Last Waltz
