OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW

RETURN TO AUSTRALIA IN SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

PERFORMING “BLONDE ON BLONDE”

WITH SPECIAL GUEST VALERIE JUNE

Acclaimed Statesiders OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW will return to Australia for the first time in eight years to play a string of East Coast dates this September and October, in addition to their already-announced performance at the Caloundra Music Festival. On their Australian shows, Old Crow Medicine Show will pay tribute to their music icon, Bob Dylan, by playing his seminal 1966 album, Blonde On Blonde, in full.

Hailing from the Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Memphian and fellow Tennessean VALERIE JUNE, who has shared the stage with the likes of Sharon Jones, Sturgill Simpson, Jake Bugg and more, will join Old Crow Medicine Show on their Australian run, rounding out an authentic ‘Taste of Americana’ double-bill for local audiences.

Old Crow Medicine Show and the beguiling Valerie June promise to deliver a night of authentic Tennessee tunes when they touch down in Australia later this year, traversing country, blues, roots and more, with a little bit of soul and gospel thrown in for good measure.

  • Hot ! Hot! Hot!

by NCBuckeye on 8/11/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

On the hottest night of the year things were even hotter on the stage. A hodge podge collection of fabulous talent that played a whole lot of music. You never new who was going to be on the stage for the next song but it did not matter - they collaborated excellently. - Not an easy feat but they pulled it off on a fun night that had everyone up on their feet and dancin despite the temps and humidity in the 90's!

  • SEE THIS SHOW!!!!

by SilentBob1 on 8/11/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

This is the second time I have seen OCMS and by far this show was awesome!!!! It was great to see all four acts jam together during the entire show. It was worth every penny!!!

  • Where was Gillian!?

by mostlyhappycustomer on 8/11/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 4 out of 5

Despite being 100 degrees this was a fantastic show, you could clearly tell all of the artists genuinely loved their jobs. My major complaint was that Gillian wasn't put in the spotlight enough. Don't get me wrong, I loved her and Rawlings' sound as a duet but she should have been given the opportunity to sing the lead on far more songs than she did. Regardless, the group's rendition of Miss Ohio was beautiful.

  • Gillian Welch and some super talented dudes

by downhomegirl on 8/11/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

This traveling revue brings together very talented musicians in different combination on stage for a pretty amazing night! Sometimes all 15 or 16 of them (we tried to count) at a time, covering the Traveling Wilburys, Bob Dylan and singing each others' songs. Felice Brothers always put on a great show and Old Crow has great energy. An unforgettable night!

  • Blazing Hot!!

by Purdee on 8/11/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

The tempo matched up with one of the hottest days we've seen. The show was awsome!! Flat out, the only this that I could have asked for was a little more life outta the Dave Rawlings Machine. OCMS and the Felice Brothers rocked the place though.

  • Awesome show

by w1ngnutt on 8/11/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing lineup and synergy. Members from each band stood in to other sets throughout the show with the encore including the whole lineup. Everyone was full of energy for a 100 degree August day and as usual Koka Booth is a great venue.

  • So chill and amazing I didnt want it to end!!!!!

    by AllyKat22388 on 8/10/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The whole night was so amazing. They had me on my feet from the time they stepped on stage.

  • The Big Surprise Tour was fantastic!

by scoutfinchlives on 8/10/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Got these tickets as a gift not knowing O.C.M.S. terribly well, but liking what I did know and knowing that the person that I gave them to really loved them. We ended up having an amazing time! The other acts were people that I knew and he didn't and people that neither of us knew and so we got to share new experiences with each other! They put on a phenomenal show, every group touring together should tour like this, combining acts often for big jams and sing-a-longs. They proved to us that they love what they do as much as we do, fantastic show. My only problem was that the surcharges cost me almost what it would have to buy a whole other ticket, a thirty dollar per person ticket ended up being $87.50 for two. Thanks a lot ticket master.

  • Old Crow is Amazing Live

by RubyMae on 8/10/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Old Crow puts on an amazing show...a tight group of musicians that have an incredible sound live. Really, really enjoyable. Dave & Gillian were right on too! I was a disappointed in the Felice Brothers though. This is the 3rd time I have seen them except this time, Simone apparently wasn't part of this tour. That in itself makes a huge difference. While they were playing, I kept thinking they sound better on cd on my home system. I am a big fan of the Felice Brothers and I'm hoping the Simone hiatus thing is temporary. And as for Justin Townes Earle, I really wasn't familiar with his music. For my taste he is simply too twangy...wouldn't want to see him again live. The Beacon itself is a rare gem.

  • Bad Acoustics

by ihateconveniencecharges on 8/10/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Talented and energetic group of musicians, but the acoustics at the Electric Factory were terrible. Vocals were almost unrecognizable.

  • Old Crow was fantastic!

The way that everyone interacted, without rhyme or reason, was captivating!

This was the best show I've ever seen! No hyperbole!!!

  • Not the roots music we expected!

by corrieclicker on 8/9/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton BeachRating: 1 out of 5

We liked Old Crow from the moment we first saw them years ago in Maine: the energy, playing roots music with their own special stamp. We were sorry they left the area, though we followed them on Prairie Home Companion and through a couple more CDs I read a few reviews of Hampton Beach Ballroom and half expected to like the band but not the venue. Surprisingly, the venue was fine and the band disappointed. It was a rock show with hardly a song we recognized. There was occasionally a fiddle and banjo and stand-up bass on the stage, but they were drowned out. Gillian Welch didn't even sing a song in the first set. That was when we left. A lot of the crowd loved the show. Maybe we missed the boat because we were unaware they changed tehir style. But don't go there expecting roots music.

  • What is wrong with that Felice Brother

by keca on 8/8/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

The one who acts like he drunkenly wandered out of a Beastie Boys concert, into a pair of Wrangler mom jeans, and onto the stage of an alt-country tour? Throwing hands + Gillian Welch lyrics = not that cool. On the other hand, DR and GW, tight, otherworldly, amazing, as always. OCMS big fun, hot licks, true believers - those drunk n high rascals who kept the manic energy but rechanneled it to fierce music.

  • The Kids Are Alright!

by Mandostyle on 8/8/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Man the joint sure was jumpin at the Beacon that night! Justin Townes Earl did a pastiche of real old time country. The Felice Brothers made too much noise behind him at first. It was a pleasure when it was just him and his mando/harp player on stage. Just the two of them, they gave us that old time country trainyard boogie. The Felice Brothers came next and gave everything they had. They were more interesting when they didn't totally lose control. But they had the crowd jumpin and shouting. Definately a band to watch in the punk/old time Avett Bros/Hackensaw Boys vibe. The David Rawlings Machine, well, David and Gillian, as my buddy said, make everyone else look like plumbers. It's spooky the way they take the audience. OCMS has some great tunes and Willie Watson has a classic rock/country voice. He doesn't sound like Paul Rogers, but it's that strong, clear and beautiful. It's just.....we wished that Ketch Secor wouldn't play the harmonica so much, also we wished he wouldn't sing so much...also we wished he'd tone down the silly dancing a little.......Don't that Gill Landry play well? Yes, he does!

  • Bands, Awesome. Audience, Sucked.

    by UW05 on 8/8/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

This concert was great. Every band was awesome when they played by themselves and all together. Sound was good...not sure why so many people complain about the sound at Electric Factory. Gillian and David are AWESOME! The audience was another story, however. I have been to concerts everywhere--Austin, Denver, NY, etc and I have NEVER been to a concert where the audience talked so much. The people on the main floor were not bad but the people in the bar upstairs were visiting the entire time. Why pay to go to a concert if you're just going to yell at your friends over the music all night? Go to a nightclub if you just want to get drunk and talk. Then everyone else can enjoy the awesome live music and not your annoying ass.

  • OCMS rocks!

by jhuserek on 8/8/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing. Great music lineup! I had a blast, can't wait til they are in the area again!

  • Awesome show!

    by K8daGr8 on 8/8/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Totally worth it! This group had incredible energy and the amount of talent on stage was INCREDIBLE!!!

  • More Gillian

by LassieJay on 8/8/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton BeachRating: 4 out of 5

The constant miming, bumping, and attention whoring of the violin player for the Felice Brothers annoyed me - but seeing Gillian (even in a supportive role) was well worth the cost of admission. I can't wait for her next album and headline tour.
