OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW

RETURN TO AUSTRALIA IN SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

PERFORMING “BLONDE ON BLONDE”

WITH SPECIAL GUEST VALERIE JUNE

Acclaimed Statesiders OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW will return to Australia for the first time in eight years to play a string of East Coast dates this September and October, in addition to their already-announced performance at the Caloundra Music Festival. On their Australian shows, Old Crow Medicine Show will pay tribute to their music icon, Bob Dylan, by playing his seminal 1966 album, Blonde On Blonde, in full.

Hailing from the Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Memphian and fellow Tennessean VALERIE JUNE, who has shared the stage with the likes of Sharon Jones, Sturgill Simpson, Jake Bugg and more, will join Old Crow Medicine Show on their Australian run, rounding out an authentic ‘Taste of Americana’ double-bill for local audiences.

Old Crow Medicine Show and the beguiling Valerie June promise to deliver a night of authentic Tennessee tunes when they touch down in Australia later this year, traversing country, blues, roots and more, with a little bit of soul and gospel thrown in for good measure.

  • Fun jams for everyone - even my 1 1/2 year old!

by internationalerb on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Wow, I knew I was going to like Iron & Wine and Old Crow, but the entire line up was fantastic. Levon Helm put together a huge musical ensemble and their Dead tribute was great. Grace Potter is AWESOME! I felt like I was in a Rock and Roll church, and it was Sunday after all! Had to leave for part of OCMS because my daughter started to crash, but the tunes I heard were really down home. The crowd was kind of sparse, and that made me feel sorry for everyone who missed the show. I feel like Phish being there the night before had something to do with that. Too many hung over jam band fans in the area to come back out to Merriweather for a second night.

  • OCMS was great, the rest less than great

by fishgal on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

The OCMS was great but the other were not very excited. The grounds were disgusting from the Phish concert the night before.

  • Levon Helm!

by Marinigirl on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

i went because I love Old Crow Medicine show but i ended up being just as impressed with Levon Helm and Band. What an incredibly skilled group of musicians! Iron and Wine was fantastic also. Grace Potter rocked as usual and OCMS was worth waiting for until 9 30. The only slight gripe I have is that the lineup/ set times were not available pre- show. This made us arrive earlier than we would have had we known that the bands we were interested in didn't play until much later in the day. Loved the venue overall. Great show and worth the rather pricey tickets..

  • great day of music

by WOWZERS on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Justin Jones: got there in the middle of his set, good sound, local guy who wrote solid country rock and roll songs Felice Brothers: probably what I was most excited to see, these guys are awesome and played great...the drummer is a beast Grace Potter and the Nocturnals: holy crap this woman can sing...everything about this set made me say, did she really do that Iron and Wine: He' great, and his cover of the Postal Services "Such Great Heights" is really well done...a little odd to come down after that great high for Grace Potter, and then go realllll mellow for him, but it had its moments Levon Helm: it really sucked that he didnt sing, but Larry Campbell got to shine because of it.."Attics of my Life" was one of the greatest musical experiences of my life, holy moly Old Crow Medicine Show: I wasnt a huge fan before, just never got into the music...but damn these guys are ridiculous musicians. the lead singer was wearing this sweet hawaiian shirt, and he played guitar, harmonica, fiddle and banjo, all amazingly....with the help from the felice brothers who just walked on stage for random songs and by the end everyone and their brother was up there, it was really a party and a great way to end the night Awesome

  • Route 29 Revue

    by Yumbo3 on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

When I bought tickets for this thing - the buzz on the internet said Gillian Welch and Dawid Rawlings were playing. They seemed to drop off the line up. They kept saying Iron and Wine was on the bill, but that turned into a tepid solo set from Sam Bean. Levon Helm and band were amazing - almost worth the asking price. And there's somethind ookie about Merriweather. It feels like your wallkng into a prison with all the searches and pat downs. Folks checking your tickets every ten feet. You can't bring food and drink like you can at WOLF TRAP. And the concessions are all way overpriced. $9 beers, $6 fries.

  • Levon Helm & Old Crow, et al

by banjosareus on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

I couldn't figure out why Old Crow medicine Show was Head Lining above Levon Helm until the crowd started dancing to Old Crow's Old-Timey inspired breakdowns. It's nice to see that long forgotten genre reaching a young audience, I hope fans will seek out more traditional and accomplished bands like The Freight Hoppers, Volo Bogtrotters and listen to some of the old classics like Mike Seeger (RIP) & THe New Lost City Ramblers. Old Crow is a fun easy to digest band with tight harmonies interesting arrangements and some day will earn the respect of their peers.

  • Levon Helm

by Melway on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

Went specifically to see Levon Helm. Was very disappointed that he did not sing. Since the entire band is very good and talented we enjoyed the music. It looked like Levon was having a great time on the drums!

  • The Incredible Old Crow Medicine Show

by icannotfindaname on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Run, don't walk, next time Old Crow Medicine Show plays anywhere near where you are. And wear your dancing shoes, too. Sweet melodies, incredible energy, amazing talent, witty banter, and dueling fiddles. What more could you want? The Felice Brothers, Levon Helm and Justin Jones put on great short sets too. Loved it. Perfect way to spend a summer day (and night).

  • Great show!

by Downhome on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

Old Crow Medicine Show had a great time playing their set, which came out in their sound. I liked the show more than I thought I would. I would recommend seeing this band live. Grace Potter and Nocturnals also put on a fantastic live show - always a good time.

  • Folk in DC - Who'd a thought it could be so good

by Lawyerjoe on 8/17/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

I came to see 'Iron and Wine' - who was enchanting - but came away stunned from the high octane performances of so many bands, some I had never heard of. From the inspiring ballads od Justin Jones, til Old Crow picked it's last bango string, this show produced. It was a reducation for anyone content thinking 'Coldplay' was Indy rock.

  • Strength to strength

Man oh man what a lineup, beginning in the early afternoon with Justin Jones and the Driving Rain, all the way up to a walloping finale at 11pm led by Old Crow Medicine Show the Route 29 revue did not dissapoint.

  • Iron and Wine

Iron and wine was unbelievable. Just wish he could have played longer!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rock Me Raleigh!!!

by Dot7 on 8/13/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

These guys are fabulous live!! While the CDs are great, the live performance is double-triple great--they work hard. It was unbelieveably HOT here when they played and they burned up the stage--tight harmonies, masterful picking, and lots of energy. And Gillian was ethereal and beautiful and a great addition to the group. If you have the chance to see this band, do not miss them.

  • Some good pickin'

    by mountainman668 on 8/12/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Best show I've been to in a while. If you have a chance, you must go see the big surprise tour. Pretty surreal to watch some amazing bluegrass and folk music with a crap load of hipsters all crowded around. But hey, good sign for my generations ability to produce and enjoy good, original music. Loved Justin Townes Earl - good showman and good old school, deep south, vintage Hank-sounding country. Class act. Felize Brothers - pretty cool vibe, enjoyed the fusion of different genres (folk, bluegrass, maroon 5-ish bouncy beats, accordion, hip hop) but overall wasn't quite for me. Without their lead singer (the skinny coked up johnny depp-ish guy on guitar) I would have lost attention pretty quick. David Rawlings and Gillian Welch - what can be said, phenomenal. Just awesome guitar work, endearing cowboy vibe, sincerity, melancholy. Probably my favorite part of the night. Old crows - those boys can rip. I didn't realize how intense they were live. It reminded me of a Skaggs/Kentucky Thunder live album I have (not on the same level as those guys though). When all acts were on stage together (15-20 people?), this usually is terrible and you can't hear anything. However, I was pleasantly surprised that they used subtlety and progressive melodies so well that these times were actually pretty cool. Like I said, go see this show.

  • Big Surprise

by Bene on 8/12/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 4 out of 5

Great show. Enjoyed hearing new material from the David Rawlings machine, and "meeting" Justin Towns Earle. As always, Old Crow put on an incredible, energetic show. Not so fond of Felice Bros. Dislike the Koka Booth venue, but other than that, great time.

  • Hot weather, hot music

by Bulldogs on 8/12/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 4 out of 5

99 degrees and the music was great venue website misleading about seats at the front!!

  • had a blast

by tetitla on 8/12/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton BeachRating: 4 out of 5

I had a great time at this show. It's impossible to have a bad show with so many awesome artists gathered on one stage. It was a mix and match all night. This was sort of the launch of this tour so there were some organizational kinks to work out ut it was still a great show. I did wish that Gillian had played more songs, I left wanting more. This is the reason for the 4 stars. If she had played one or two more of her songs it would deffinately be a 5!

  • Old Crow rocks!!!

by tarheelgirl6 on 8/12/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show. The format was every group would play separately and then it was a mix-and-match of band members from each group. Very unique approach and made for a fantastic show. The energy of each group was amazing and the crowd was totally feeling it. Would see any of these groups (Justin Townes Earle, Dave Rawligs Machine, Felice Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show) again and again!!!

  • love David and Gillian

by brightnite on 8/12/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

This show was HOT! In more ways than one, The temp. was around 101 but that wasn't the hottest thing around. The Show was Big! The bands were on fire. There was so much energy around the stage it could have started a T-Storm, Heat lightning at the very least. I'm so glad I went to this show. I enjoyed all the music, but Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are my favorites. She can make me cry with her singing and he sends my heart flying with his guitar pickin' and strumin'. I can only hope they come around again soon!

  • Old Crow Medecine Show on a HOT night in carolina!

by KillDevilThrills on 8/11/09Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 4 out of 5

Great show from the Crow!. Was expecting more material from Gillian, but shes more there in support of David this go round. First time Ive seen the focus on David. Very good. I loved all the musicians playing together, really made the show! Wasnt familiar with Justin Townes Earle or the Felice brothers but I was very impressed and surprised!
