    I wish I could give 0 stars

by Starwarsjunkie on 10/21/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

Dreary. Depressing. Dull. Strained. The cast doesn't do much, the stage set never changes. The directors went out of their way to make sure that the stage looked beige and uninteresting. Dialog and lyrics were difficult to understand. It does not sound like the actors were mic'ed. The southern accents were so exaggerated that native southerners probably couldn't understand what they are saying. This play has the distinction of being the only one where my family and I were so bored, we walked out of it. A lot of the audience did the same. It seemed like the company went out of their way to suck all joy and color out of world, just just so that they could mock the audience. I feel swindled for paying full price to see this show.

    Very disappointed

A significant amount of people left the theater at intermission.

    Horrible horrible horrible

    by J. H. on 10/20/22

I’ve seen Oklahoma 10+ times and this was the worst ever BY FAR. A black tranny playing Annie. C’mon!!! Male characters looked weak and more like hippy Radiohead types than cowboys.

    Awful

by Callie B on 6/18/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Worst adaption of a musical I've seen. We haven't been to the theater in over three years and this was a huge disappointment. The opera house was lovely and we spent quite a bit of money on good seats. I was surprised at how many people left at intermission. Another huge surprise is how many people the theater allowed in the front $$$ section after intermission, but I suppose they wanted the seats to appear full. After reading reviews I never would have purchased tickets for this production. It is definitely different than I remember in my past.

    Disappointed

by T. W. on 6/15/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

I was very disappointed with this performance. The characters were very monotone in both their speaking voices and singing voices. There was no animation in their voices which I am accustomed to hearing during on stage performances. I would not recommend this.

    Worst revival ever

by Gabby on 6/15/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

While the words were the same, they changed the connotation of the musical. The dancing was almost nonexistent and when they were dancing it was very strange. The costumes were not up to par and the way they portrayed the story was just wrong. Roger and Hammerstein would have been rolling over in their graves if they would have seen what they did to their musical.

Worst Play I Have ever seen

by TXOutlw51 on 6/15/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

I can not believe this show was even able to run. There was no stage setting, just 8 picnic table and chairs. The back drops and side just plain brown panels with doors. I think the cast changed customs once. The casting was terrible. One ladies voice was more like a guys and she was supposed to be the innocent little gal. I have never seen them black out the whole place for you to just hear two people talking. Then other times the lowered lights and someones face was projected on back of stage panels while they sang a song. This might have worked fine for people on the main floor but anyone elevated only got to see the nose and chin of the person singing. Then when the character was supposed to be thinking over her decision, the darkened stage and some dancer came out and did some type of interpretive dance I guess, not anything western, and it went on forever. Boring.... The play was so bad, I went home and watched the Movie Oklahoma so I could maybe try to understand what they had been trying to do. Don't waste your money on this show.

    Awful Rendition

by Courtney T on 6/14/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Truly did not enjoy. Left during intermission. Singing and dancing super low energy. No set changes - BORING. I knew itnwould be different than Rogers & Hammerstein, but didn't expect it to be butchered like this.

    WORST PLAY EVER!!!

by John S. on 6/13/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Rogers and Hammerstein would be rolling over in their graves. Why the woke generation feels the need to change everything that was good from the past to something so dark and melancholy is beyond me. Will think again if I ever go to the Winspear... they should've pulled such an awful play from their slot after the first night. Boo hiss!!!

A theater experience more than a musical

by Jay Bird on 6/13/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Yes, they sang. Yes they were amazing in their singing. But what was missing was the dancing, yee-hawing experiences of the movie and other productions of Oklahoma! I enjoy it very much just by going in with an open-minded expectation of some great theater. It is darker, it is, at times, very "artistic interpretation". But at the end of the day, it stayed on my mind well after the show ended. I had not seen the movie production until AFTER seeing this version on stage. I watched it in the days after and yes - everything is there. The 1950's was not ready for the underlying story that this production gave us. Bravo for that. But if you want some good-ol-fashioned Broadway your parents' way... this ain't it!

    Beautiful music, questionable production

by Saul on 6/12/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

A revision of the original musical, this version of Oklahoma has a lot going for it. The new arrangements are great, a majority of the performers do a wonderful job, and the darker tone occasionally works! Production choices hold it back a lot though with mismatched costuming, confusing stage direction, inconsistency with the performances and storytelling. Also the dream interpretive dance sequence was frustrating and mind numbing to sit through. As my first introduction to the musical i really enjoyed the music. Almost everything around it left so much to be desired.

    Train wreck

by CY on 6/12/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

If you love the original musical, and musical theater in general, I would recommend avoiding this dumpster fire. Save your money for something you’ll enjoy.

    Brillant Production!

by Wilem on 6/11/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Absolutely brilliant unfortunately the reinterpretation is more valid today than the writer could have comprehended back in 2015. I do not see anywhere in publicity that it said "Musical". Yes music is by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. Before I bought tickets, I checked on the touring company, I was not expecting a musical!!! I am still moved by the performance one week later. I must read the play on which this was based "Green Grow The Lilacs by LYNN RIGGS" Brillant blending!!!!

by Janet on 6/10/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Firs act was boring with a lot of talking and no dancing and second act was better but still super weird with the begging girl with the white shirt. Sorry guys, I think you change a lot the musical and I didn’t like it.

    Not OK

by TC on 6/10/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Found this “modernized” version dark, creepy and disjointed. After the first act half the audience left. We decided to stay thinking it might get better, only to see the second act open with a new 15 minute interpretive dance to screeching electric guitar. Why not leave the original version alone. This one was a disaster.

    Great songs, lousy play

Not what was expecting at all.

by DP on 6/8/22Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House - Dallas

Thought would be singing and dancing musical like all others have seen. So wrong. Very dark, morbid and unenjoyable. Paid way too much money for that horror show.
