Everything was great. There was a 15 minute delay due to the fire alarm but they continued the show. My bosses daughter was one of the rats in the show and I was honored to see her dance.
We enjoyed the show until alarms started going off in the theater and people evacuated. No reason for the alarms was given. Hundreds of people in the street on a cold night so we left. We were disappointed for sure.
The Nutcracker is new and more enchanting each year, and watching Ballet Memphis perform this classic, knowing their strong local ties and devotion to our city, makes the production feel like home!
We were sold occupied seats, were changed (while missing the opening), and seated in front of drunken twenty year old girls who whooped the entire performance. Our tickets were not inexpensive for what we were given. There were children in the audience who had better behavior than who we were seated next to. The Orpheum is an elegant theater that never seems to disappoint, but this evening was a disaster. The dancers were talented, but the arrangement and costuming was atrocious! I was done after seeing the rat kind perform the "duggie." Really? The nutcracker is such a tradition in our family and this failed to impress.
Nice holiday performance, but if you're not familiar with the Orpheum...the seats are not made for people over 6ft tall!!
We purchased Nutcracker tickets as a Christmas gift for my 7-year-old daughter. Although she had seen The Nutcracker previously in a small local production, she had never seen it on this scale or in a venue like The Orpheum. The costumes are beautiful, and the cast is extraordinarily talented.
The production was well produced as always. I have taken my granddaughter every year since she was 5 years old and she is 16 and still wants to attend.
We went to the other Nutcracker at the other venue featuring more accomplished adults the last time. I have to say it was more fun this time at the Orpheum watching the Ballet Memphis kids in this perform with just a handful of adult dancers. The children were incredibly talented far exceeding our expectations! And the adult dancers very good also.
It was magical! This is a must see for any young child!
Wonderful! Would definitely come see something else by Ballet Memphis
This was the first time I have been to see The Nutcracker at The Orpheum. When I walked in, I was amazed at the beauty of the venue. The employees were very polite and helpful. The ballet started on time and kept you engaged throughout the entire performance. I will be going back next year with my daughter.
It was very good. I truly enjoyed the show. I was impressed with Ballet Memphis performers.
From Clara to the Sugar Plum Fairy, this is the best Nutcracker I have seen. Clara was the most talented and the youngest I have seen, and her charisma was very engaging. The Sugar Plum Fairy had the most lovely feet and her legs were breath taking. The soloist's were lovely and the core dancers very graceful and apt at their craft. Paul Mejia's choreography is fast moving, challenging and divine! This is a Nutcracker not to be missed!!
I thought it was cute but definitely for kids and not so much for adults. A good majority of the dancers were kids and I know they're kids and not professionals so I'm happy they're aspiring dancers and having fun. I just don't think I would go to this again without kids. I noticed a lot of people were there to support a kid they knew that would be dancing. I didnt know what to expect. I thought it was just a local production of the Nutcracker. Wish I could make it to the Moscow ballet Nurcracker to compare but maybe next year. Still I enjoyed it overall even with no kids and not knowing anyone personally on stage.
The Arlington was great. I was disappointed in the Ballet as it seem disjointed to me. It did not flow with way I had expected. Seats we also great.
We found this Nutcracker to be quite enjoyable especially to see so many good local dancers
The ballet was lovely. The orchestra superb. I would only recommend this event with reservations, though, due to the fact the public was allowed to purchase food in the lobby and bring it into the auditorium and eat. That was horrific--to spend the money we did for tickets and have our "seat mates" make noise opening packages, chewing, etc. I have never been to a ballet before where this was the case. It reduced this special Christmas experience to a movie-going atmosphere--sad.
Incredible performance, incredible venue. First time watching and I very much enjoyed it.
We attend every year !! Great family tradition ! Thanks for all your time and effort for another great performance!
Best Nutcracker ever! Marcie did an amazing job with Los Gatos ballet and I recommend everyone that likes ballet to see one of her shows
