  • Good show-Venue not so good

by Smith on 12/3/24Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 3 out of 5

The show was supposed to start at 5:30. When we arrived at 5:20, the doors to the event had not even opened yet. We stood outside in the cold for an hour to get into the show. They did not start the show until everyone was in but because people were still finding their seats, we had people standing up in front of us for the first 20 minutes of the show. The show itself was very good and I hope to buy tickets again. I just would not recommend this venue to host the show.

  • Nutcracker

by Dennis on 12/3/24Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 5 out of 5

The South Carolina Ballet group was excellent! The venue score was a zero. Event scheduled to start at at 5:30 PM. They only had 3 metal detectors for approximately 3,000 attendees. Long lines outside in the cold. As a result, event started at 6:21 PM. This Also caused people walking down the Isles for another 30 minutes during the ballet. Then during the second Act, people began leaving 30 minutes early! Very disrespectful.

  • No live Orchestra.

by Knights Nock on 12/3/24Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 1 out of 5

I took my kids to see the Nutcracker in Savannah Ga. 1 pro several cons. 1. Visually Beautiful. That's it 2. No open pit Orchestra. Recorded music 3. Over Priced tickets! Front to mid stage went for 1100 bucks! I took the back seat section 6. 400 bucks! Over Priced. 4. Too many people. I would have preferred the Trustees Theater.

  • Great Performers - Management/Venue Not Great

by LoLa27 on 12/3/24Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 1 out of 5

This so for the performance at the Savannah Civic Center The pros: The performers were great The cons: The program started about 55 minutes late The venue didn’t start letting people in until show time and couldn’t manage the lines The person running the event didn’t do a great job of updating the audience of start time The venue couldn’t properly manage concession lines The venue ran out of most concessions by intermission The costumes were lackluster. Parking was limited and filled up early despite venue descriptions of “ample parking”

  • Ballet company A+ Event Venue D-

by Jenni on 12/3/24Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 2 out of 5

We assumed the performance started at 5:30. Wrong! It took over an hour waiting in the cold to get in with security and checking bigger bags. The staff at the event venue were kind and doing the best they could. We understood wanting to keep everyone safe. There were no signs showing the bag size and we had to wait in yet another line to pay to check our purses. Once inside the ushers did their best to direct people to their seats but because the venue is so large so many people sat in wrong seats and then had to move after the performance started. There were other people who kept coming in after the performance started which was very distracting. In front of us we had 2 children under the age of 2 who could not sit still and one of whom screamed the entire way through. People were on their cell phones taking pictures and during intermission no way to use the bathroom or get concessions without waiting in a line that was longer than intermission lasted. The ballet company was outstanding and the costumes and set were amazing but it was sadly hard to enjoy because of everything else that was going on. We also had to rush out without properly giving a good standing ovation for the dancers because we knew we would have to wait in line for another 30 minutes for our purses. Will not come back to this venue again. For $80 a ticket we expected things to be a higher level. Were very displeased.

  • Ballet was amazing. Venue needs improvement

by AB on 12/3/24Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 3 out of 5

I am giving 3 stars only because the venue(Savannah Civic Center) did a terrible job. Maybe lack of help?? Supposed to start at 5:30pm and venue did not open doors until after 5pm. Huge line and waiting 30 mins to go in. They only opened 1 door at first, then eventually opened 2 more. There was only 1 concession stand which we stood in line for more than 30 mins during intermission. No clear lines were made so people just stood around in a cluster. You couldn't tell if you were in a line or not. All in all, things needed to be better organized. Someone dropped the ball here. I have been to many other events at the Sav Civic Center and it has always been very organized and enjoyable. The Ballet was amazing!!! Performers did such a wonderful job and we all loved their costumes. Would definitely go back to see them again, just hoping they can find a new venue.

  • Nut cracked

by Holiday disappointed on 12/3/24Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 3 out of 5

Performance started almost 1 hour late. Set props were minimal. Overachieved the snow ambiance by dumping glitter on Performers making some invisible. The star was the mop man during intermission to clean up the mountains of glitter/snow. He received loud applause. Venue allowed food inside auditorium so hot dog fragrance and bottles opening sound of carbonation was truly distracting.

  • Classic Show

by Stewy on 12/30/22The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

My partner and i went to see the Nutcracker for our holiday season date night away from the kids. It's not an especially long show, but it packs a punch when viewed live. Ballet Memphis and the Orpheum are always phenomenal!

  • Beautiful performance. Theatre temperature was unbearable.

by Ballet4Life on 12/27/22E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

While the performance was wonderful, the theatre had to be over 90 degrees throughout the entire performance. This made for a pretty miserable experience, sadly.

  • Small town version

by Here&There on 12/26/22The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 3 out of 5

I enjoy all presentations of The Nutcracker, and will attend a performance any chance I get. Ballet Memphis 2022 performance included great costumes and music. However, the dance was more like a school recital than a professional show. The opening party scene was too long, and the array of dancers from around the world was limited. The dancers seemed to be giving their encore during the performance, which felt a bit hammy.

  • The Akron Nutcracker was spectacular!

by Herb Schilling on 12/25/22E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

I was so impressed with this performance. The writing, lighting, dancing, venue, costumes, music, all were top notch. I will definitely go again if they do these in the future and I encourage others to go also. I especially a part of Act II where they had a mix of cultures. The mixing in of famous Akron things was really clever and fun too.

  • Good show.

by Mrs C on 12/25/22E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

The show was good. However, the theater was stifling hot making it difficult to sit through the show. Sadly, we were so miserable that we had to leave before it was over. LOVED the guest dancers! They were FANTASTIC!!

  • The theater was excruciatingly hot, beautiful ballet.

by Bep on 12/25/22E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

The ballet was beautiful. The theater however was incredibly uncomfortable. It was terrible. I will have to know something is done about this before I come back to EJ Thomas Hall.

  • Great show in a sweltering theater

The show was exceptional! The dancers did well and I really enjoyed the extra cultural parts! I've been to E.J. Thomas Hall before, but holy moly was it hot in there! Way hotter then its ever been before!

  • Wonderful

by MaggieFi on 12/21/22The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

I've been seeing the Nutcracker since I was a kid. It's always a treat! I was surprised how amazing the sets and costumes were. I was also pleased to see a more diverse group of dancers on stage and am happy that the Memphis ballet scene is doing a better job of embracing people of color. It was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon and great way to welcome the holiday season.

  • outstanding performance

Ballet Memphis company did not disappoint! We attend the nutcracker every year and this year was just as awesome as any other! The dancers are so talented and all the behind the scenes people make everything look so effortless. Thank you for another great performance and a wonderful memory to kick off the holiday season.

The seats were great! Your theater is so beautiful! We talked about all the shows we’d seen there before. My favorite was when my daughter sang there. The Memphis Ballet did a wonderful job. They have some very talented performers! I also enjoyed the comic relief.

  • Orpehum

Tickets are always to expensive. There should be more opportunities for the middle to lower class to enjoy the arts.
