Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football History
From the Four Horsemen to the Gipper to Rudy to "Theismann for Heisman," Notre Dame has a legendary football program. The school has 11 national championships in football, but that doesn't begin to measure the shadow the Irish have cast across the game. It started with Knute Rockne, who coached from 1918 to 1930 and only lost 12 games in that span. It was Rockne who delivered the famous halftime speech in which he invoked the deathbed plea of a former player, George Gipp, to "win one for the Gipper." There was the "Game of the Century" in 1966 in which the 9-0 Irish, under coach Ara Parseghian, played the 9-0 Michigan State Spartans to a 10-10 tie.
Notre Dame has had seven Heisman Trophy winners, including Paul Hornung, Johnny Lujack and Tim Brown, the team’s most recent recipient, who became the first wide receiver to be awarded. More unforgettable moments from Fighting Irish alumni include Joe Montana and the Chicken Soup Game and Tony Rice running the option offense all the way to a national championship in 1988.

University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football at Notre Dame Stadium
Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana was designed by the same firm, Osborn Engineering, that designed the original Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park. It was built in 1930. Watching over the proceedings is Touchdown Jesus, the nickname given to the mural — Millard Sheets' The Word of Life — on the nearby Hesburgh Library.
The University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s 2023 regular season kicks off in August in Dublin, Ireland as the Fighting Irish face off against the Navy Midshipmen in the Shamrock Series. Had a great time! 36 points scored in less than 5 minutes of game time
If you like offense in your football games then this was the one that shouldn't have been missed. 36 points scored in the first five minutes of the game between both teams!!!
This was a great event. The energy of the game was amazing. We enjoyed meeting new people seated around us and discussing the game. Would definitely go to another Notre Dame game.
Excellent game will come back next year. Great to tailgate before the game
An exciting college football game with lots of scoring. Weather held out after previous days of rain. Easy to park and get to the seats.
Oh my god what a great football game, The score was 23 to 17 with nine minutes and 41 seconds left in the first quarter. Unbelievable action great seats great time
HI GREAT SEATS GREAT GAME EVERTHING WAS GREAT FOOD FANS HALFTIME AND OF COURSE GO IRISH
Parking was easy. Our seats were great. Only thing I would do is charge less for beer. $10 for one beer is crazy.
Excellent seats in the upper deck - no problem getting the tickets or paying online
The only thing that could of been better was if SYRACUSE could have won!
The football game was great but getting into the stadium was horrible!!!!!!!!!!!! They were understaffed and it took 20 min to get inside after I got frisked at the door
The parking to get in was complete and utter chaos. How is a stadium unprepared for an event that takes place there more than any other stadium with 2 professional teams there??? If this was my first event at MetLife is never be back
glad that they won --- Notre Dame Irish all the way!
Great Seats! End zone,Very close to the bar! Go Irish!
Great seats. Too bad the 5 drunk guys ruined the game for us & 5 other families. I can't believe security didn't throw them out! We will never go back to this stadium!
The game itself was fine. The way Met Life Stadium handled entering the complex was the worst thing I have ever experienced in a parking lot. We arrived right at 3:00 when they opened the gates, and it took us an hour to get in to our parking lot, with not that many cars in front of us. You'd think this was the first time they had a big event there. Very poor management. And anytime you asked someone what the holdup was, the workers were very rude! It was very frustrating, to say the least.
This was the second football game we attended at MetLife stadium. The first time we had seats in the 300 level and swore we would never sit there again. They are so high and far away from the field you might as well skip it altogether. The old stadium was far superior unless you are in a luxury box. This time we were in the 200 level. Sightlines, etc. were much improved. However, we were left wondering if the sole purpose of the four jumbotrons was to play constant commercials. There could not have been more than three replays shown all game and when they were the screens in the opposite end zone could barely be seen since only half of the screen was used for video and the other continued to show nonstop commercials. If you really wanted to see the video your best bet was to turn around and look at the screen in the end zone where we were sitting. There is an assortment of concession choices. I understand the fact that there are many specialized stands helps to keep the lines at any one shorter. That works fine if you are by yourself. But if you are with your wife, kids, etc. and one want a Rita's ice and another want a Papa John pizza and you want a coffee you end up having to go to three different concession stands which is really annoying. The only way I would go to another game at MetLife would be if I could get seats with club access. Otherwise I prefer to watch it at home on TV. I used to go to Giants Stadium all of the time. I am sorry they tore it down and replaced it with this monstrosity.
I thought the food they served was going to be better. It tasted fine but I thought there would have been more selection for the price we paid per ticket. Also having field access after the game we thought we would have met some of the players or their mascots. Not the experience I thought it was going to be for my son's first college game experience
I have attended several games at MetLife Stadium and find it a very nice place to see a game. We arrived several hours early to tailgate and parking was easy, if a bit pricey. The security was heightened but it was fairly easy to get in. The facilities are well maintained and the staff is friendly and informed. Our seating areas were very clean. The sound and video systems are top notch. Not much bad to say about MetLife!
Was a fun game, great crowd. Tailgates were great. Loyal fans on both sides.
