About

Born Norman Gene MacDonald on October 17, 1963, in Quebec City, Canada, Norm MacDonald got his big break at the 1987 Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. MacDonald took his act to the States, where he wrote for ``Roseanne'' and ``The Dennis Miller Show'' before joining the ``Saturday Night Live'' writing staff in 1993. Soon after, Lorne Michaels gave him an on-air shot reading quirky Weekend Update editorials; within a year, he'd replaced Kevin Nealon in the anchor chair until he left the show in March 1998.
In 1998, Norm's first movie, the cult classic "Dirty Work," came out to theatres. In March 1999, Norm tried his hand at a sitcom he created with Bruce Helford. "Norm" lasted 3 seasons on ABC. During its run, Norm starred in "Screwed," which was also panned by critics. In October 2003, Norm joined forces with Barry Kemp, the man behind "Newhart" and "Coach." "A Minute with Stan Hooper" was a softer approach for Norm and a critic favorite. Norm played the straight man for once. Norm's distinct voice has paid off for him professionally. He has voiced "Lucky" the dog in three "Dr. Dolittle" movies. He's also voiced "Death" for one episode of "Family Guy" and the Genie for "The Fairly Odd Parents".
On September 12, 2006, Norm launched his long-rumored comedy album, "Ridiculous". He is back to doing stand up and recently has been emerging as a serious poker player and can be seen competing at the World Poker Tours Celebrity edition on the Travel Channel.

Norm is not wired up correctly.

by GregThousandOaks on 8/29/09The Canyon - Agoura Hills

This was my fourth Norm concert. Norm is the bomb. For his delivery alone, he is worth seeing. His approach to comedy, his utter disregard of standard comedy convention, his dryness, humility, edginess and intelligence, are all factors in making him one of the standout comedians of this era. The show was excellent. He did bits on how we allow the news media to cruelly and unnecessarily manipulate us, why sex is a shameful thing [what other activity do we close the blinds for?], battling diseases, and many other thoughtful and hilarious bits. Do not go to see Norm if you want standard thoughtless comedy, a la Ron White. You will be disappointed. If you like a comedian with an edge, and one who will challenge how you think about the world, go see Norm.

    Down time

by SNLfan on 8/29/09The Canyon - Agoura Hills

Norm was funny. I'm not sure if his performance last night was typical. The pauses were interesting. Low volume, mumbling... it must just be his schtick.

    Norm himself was so-so

by sparky1962 on 8/29/09The Canyon - Agoura Hills

He was very inconsistent; one moment hysterical, next minute... no big deal. Unessessary use of profanity. Two of the other comedians opening were awesome!

    eh

by needtolaugh on 8/25/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

I had hoped to laugh a LOT more. Norm seemed to ramble off on irrelevant and non funny tangents, loosing my interest here and there. Although he claimed he doesn't drink, he sure seemed on something....and didn't have a lot of joy in what he was doing....IT felt forced, off the cuff and he himself was bored. It wasn't horrible.. but it could have been a lot better. I walked away wondering if it was worth it...the $6.50 beers were not

Norm MacDonald was extremely funny and was well worth the cost of the ticket. The venue is always a great place to see top shows and comedians.

    Norm MacDonald was funny!

by Elephantine on 8/24/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

I thought Norm was funny....but not side splitting funny. His sense of humor was a bit dry for my taste, however most of the audience seemed to enjoy it. Overall he was witty, relaxed, and presented himself well. I had a good time!

    Norm

by shanno36 on 8/24/09Newport Yachting Center - Newport

Norm MacDonald's stand up was everything I had hoped for-- offensive and utterly hilarious. There were a few people in the crowd who were under the impression that it was an interactive stand up show, I could have done without them. Classic Norm comedy, very funny. The guy who opened for him, Myq Kaplan, was also very funny, he has some pretty good stuff.

    Deadpan Master!

by ASorkin on 8/24/09Newport Yachting Center - Newport

People generally love or hate Norm, and there is no reason that it should be any other way. His unique brand of highly offensive honesty coupled with brilliant deadpan delivery makes him an act that is not for the faint of heart. He was in top form during this performance. Rumor has it he has really stopped drinking for real this time and it shows.

    Norm was hilarious!

by stepone on 8/24/09Newport Yachting Center - Newport

Norm Macdonald was simply hilarious. The Newport Yachting club also did a wonderful job hosting the event. I would love to see more of Norm's shows and more shows at this venue. Parking was also very close.

Norm was very funny! His typick dry wit. Saw him at Yacht Center in Newport...Chairs very uncomfortable. Would not recommend box seats. Railing around too high!

    Norm is the man.

by Deadpan on 8/24/09Newport Yachting Center - Newport

The guy is brilliant. He keeps saying how uninformed he is, but his oddball wisdom shines through with every story he tells. His delivery is so unique. The same gesture and sound has multiple meanings. He breaks everything down to it's simplest components. It doesn't feel like a routine. It feels like he's just conversing. LOTS of surprises. He gets away with murder. Not the most politically correct guy......on purpose.

    Norm MacDonald

by Misi18 on 8/24/09Newport Yachting Center - Newport

The venue was hot! Norm was dressed in a suit and I was more hot looking at him. He was good but I had already heard some of the material on Howard Stern a few weeks back.

    What I Expected...

by iSteve on 8/24/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

...a good performance overall for Norm. He has a style all his own, making him difficult for some, but if you like his work over the past 10+ years he didn't disappoint.

by z0mi3ie on 8/23/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

This was the first time I've seen Norm. Extremely worth the investment. I am definitely looking forward to seeing him again. Norm is definitely "rawer" live. And in particular this show. He lets it loose.

by patrich on 8/23/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

i think you have to know norm's sense of humor to be able to enjoy his show. norm doesn't really have jokes, he has funny observations. he kind of seems like he's making it up as he goes along. i hope he comes back again next year.

    Norm still has it!!!

by ice12d on 8/23/09Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

After years of being in the comedy business Norm is still as funny as the day he first started telling jokes. He did a great show with lots of laughs non stop jokes and all with the same energy he had telling jokes years ago. I really enjoyed his humor and anyone that is a fan of Norm should not miss any of his stand up events!
