About

The Seattle Kraken will host the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic at T-Mobile Park on Jan. 1, 2024, against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The first NHL outdoor game in Seattle will pit the two most recent NHL additions against each other at the home of Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners. T-Mobile Park will be the 14th venue and eighth baseball stadium to host the NHL's premier regular-season event since it started in 2008.

The Kraken are in their second season since joining the NHL as its 32nd team for the 2021-22 season. The Golden Knights are in their sixth season, having joined the League for 2017-18.

The Kraken will become the 29th NHL team to participate in a regular-season outdoor game and the first Pacific Division team to host the Winter Classic, which has never been played west of the Central time zone. It will be the second for the Golden Knights, who played the Colorado Avalanche in the 2021 NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe on Feb. 20, 2021.

    Was a great event.

by pittsburghzombie on 4/9/11Heinz Field - Pittsburgh

The Winter Classic this year was fantastic. Even though my team lost the game, we still had a great time. They changed the time of the game the evening before, and we were notified a few different ways.

    Winter Classic

by atlgrrl on 1/5/11Heinz Field - Pittsburgh

I would have given this event five stars if it had not been for the sound system. The announcements, entertainment could not be heard in my section. I have been to Heinz Field many times before so I know that it had nothing to do with the section and everything to do with the sound system. This part of the event was very disappointing to me. The event itself was terrific. The NHL made a good decision to postpone start time enough ahead for attendees to adjust. Outdoor hockey under the lights? Fantastic!

Winter Classic was Kind of Boring

    by chucky2680 on 1/4/11Heinz Field - Pittsburgh

For all the hype that was the Winter Classic, the actual event really wasn't that great. I had great seats and a good time, but I feel like no effort was put in to getting excitement out of the crowd. The players were not introduced individually. There was no loud music to pump up the fans. It sems like it was treated as a normal hockey game. Something should have been done that was more exciting.

    Amazing Experiene Despite the Outcome

    by PensFan100 on 1/4/11Heinz Field - Pittsburgh

The Winter Classic is a must see event for every serious hockey fan. Even though the game means nothing more than a regular season game for both teams, the spectacle of outdoor hockey is really something to behold. Even with sketchy weather conditions the game was enjoyable and the experience is one I will remember for a long time to come. Well done NHL!

The 'Night" experience was amazing, Very well put together event. Not a detail left unattended. Fan pretty respectful overall no major caos (which you often have at theses types of events). Pittsburgh put o nquite a show and had so much fun went home and watched the recorded version.

Pittsburgh & the 2011 Winter Classic Rocked!!!

by PensFanForever on 1/3/11Heinz Field - Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh and the NHL did an amazing job of putting together an awesome event. Communicating the change in start time to later was handled well. I received emails and texts, and the local media was all over the change. Security at the event itself was present yet not overwhelming, and they did their job when needed (I witnessed this firsthand in my section). Exiting the event was also smooth, with exiting the parking area appearing to be well planned (we were out of our parking lot and on the "road" in a matter of minutes). The event, while a bit soggy, was awesome. I hope these continue. I'd love to see some more geographic rivalries in upcoming outdoor events, such as the Pens vs Philly at Beaver Stadium!

the higher the seats the better the experience!!! Was down front earlier and could not see on from the waist up on players. Entertainment was good and the outside vendors was pleasant.

    Atmosphere was awesome!

by jobean on 1/3/11Heinz Field - Pittsburgh

We loved the Winter Classic. The atmosphere of the outdoor game in the city was incredible. We had a great time. Great shows from Hinder, Styx, and The Clarks during intermissions.

The event itself was amazing...with great fans and a great atmosphere. However the city of Pittsburgh was not ready for this event. Once the event was moved from 1pm to 8 pm the city did not respond. There were many restaurants and stores closed. It was very difficult to find a place to eat before the game. Even after the game it was difficult to find places which were open. The NHL has to look at the city of the event in the future years to make sure that the city is able to handle the additional people and will be open. Also, getting out of the stadium was a disaster. There were only 3 ramps which were so crowded, it was very difficult to move.

lots of fun. appreciated the seat cushions. price was reasonable. the only sour note were the two very very drunk fans in the seats directly behind me.

winter classic from the nose-bleed seats

    by 10guin on 1/3/11Heinz Field - Pittsburgh

Fabulous event on the ice, although the rest of it was not without flaws. However, it seemed most of those were venue or fan-related, and nothing the NHL could control. Seriously, people, it's not just the players who are supposed to be gracious, win or lose. And Heinz Field is a nonsmoking venue, but you wouldn't have known it Saturday. On top of the cigarette level of rudeness: Victory cigars?!? Really necessary? Not unless your name is Red Auerbach. It also would have been better if the sound system had functioned throughout the pregame actiivities, national anthems, first period and half of the first intermission. This was my second Classic, and amenities, in general, have improved since the Buffalo game. For all the weather issues, there were no long breaks in play due to conditions, and whoever set up the rink versus the seats did an amazing job. Other than one whiny chick in my section, no one I've talked to had any issues with visability in any section of Heinz Field.
