New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the "Original Six" NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs — including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Nine players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, and Mike Richter. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden
Located in the heart of Manhattan and named for President James Madison, Madison Square Garden opened in 1968 and is among the most-booked venues in the world. The arena, which sits atop Penn Station, is the oldest venue in the NHL. Considered “the world’s most famous arena,” MSG is also the home court for the New York Knicks.
The New York Rangers’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at KeyBank Center, when the Rangers face off against the Buffalo Sabres. The Rangers will also participate in the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series — hosted at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — against the New York Islanders on February 18. They play their final game of the regular season at home against Eastern Conference opponents the Ottawa Senators. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023–24 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the New York Rangers.
The Rangers have made 11 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, and have won the Stanley Cup four times (in 1928, 1933, 1940 and 1994).

Excellent accomodations and tickets; wish we'd won the game, however.
great game the GARDEN is the best place for a game the only negative is 19.00 for 2 beers pleaseeeeeeee
My very first hockey game! I'm from Brazil and every time I have a chance I watch a game on tv.....but it's soooo much more fun and exciting when u're actually there... u can feel the energy and it'd great! I loved it!!!
A very poor game - I'm very disappointed. Now I understand why we (Zürich) have beaten the New York Rangers in Victoria Cup...
I go to one or two hockey games a year. I was looking forward to the Ranger-Flyer game, I had good seats in the old yellow section, between the Ranger goal and the blue line. The game started off poorly with ex-Ranger Blair Betts scoring less than a minute in. By the opening seconds of the second period the score was 4 to 0, Flyers. The 6-0 final was indicative of how non-competitive the game was. Still, it's always nice to go to a sporting event, especially when the seats are good. I just picked the wrong game. The next one I go to in 2010 has got to be better.
Right from the beginning everything was great! At will call there was no wait, Getting to the club seats was a breeze and the seats center ice section106 SAY NO MORE!!!
This was utterly disappointing. I bought these tickets (4) for my husband's 50th birthday present. His dream to see the Ranger's at the Garden. Of course one does not expect they will always win but I did expect to see a competitive game. We paid a lot of money to come to NY to see them play and left quite disappointed. I guess we can say we went to the Garden and saw the Ranger's but they forgot to show up for the game. I am not sure I would ever spend the money to go again:(
It would have been nice if the Rangers had shown up.
The Rangers played very poorly.... the winning and losing is not the issue, but a win would have been nice, they just played bad.....my nephew who was in from out of town was disappointed to see and hear a "dead" Garden....James, sell the team to someone who will put a good team on the ice....
The game sucked as the Rangers failed to show up. On top of it the seats had limited view and we could not see the goal on one end. Will not buy limited view seats again.
i have been going to Ranger games at MSG since 1986. Love the Garden Love NYC and Love the Rangers. Not happy they lost in OT to the stinkin Islanders but nothing ever tops a game at the worlds most famous! Best fans in NHL!
NYR vs. Isles... It was a good game: 2 goals by Dubi, a fight won my Avery & overtime... to bad we were 47 seconds away from my first NHL shootout (and a WIN by the Rangers...). Next year...
Love the Rangers, but fans, go see them play on the road (in Newark or Philly!) Like Nassau Coliseum, MSG is a dank, antiquated arena. I felt like I was stuffed in a sardine can on 12/26/09, while attending the Isles-Rangers game. It was so claustrophobic and warm inside the venue, that I almost passed out. I had no choice but to leave towards the end of the 2nd period. I am curious to see what the arena will become 2 years from now (with its looming, expansive renovation project), but for the meantime, I will be boycotting MSG events.
Great game. Good view but uncomfortable seats in the $ Club Section. You'll have to angle your way in and out.
ISLANDERS STINK!!!!!!!!! TWO MSG fiascos in a row!
The safety net behind the goal where I was sitting made it difficult to follow the puck. Worse than that was the continual blocking of my view by ushers and waiters going up and down the isle to serve people $10 hot dogs and $10 beers. For $200 a ticket, I expected a much better evening. I won't be back anytime soon.
This was our first NHL game and first time at the garden. My 13 year old son, who is in the modified league in poughkeepsie enjoyed it very much. He said "this was the best birthday present ever". I am a single parent and it was very memorable for me. You have two more devoted Rangers fans. Can't afford the games but we'll be watching. Also the Rangers is a sponser of the Vikings. Maybe you can pass the message along for a visit from one of the players to a game or a visit from some other top offical to a practice to boost the moral of the team and further introduce youth hockey in our area. It would be very good for the sport and would make the team very happy to see a pro player visit the team. I am the hockey dad for the team. Any help would be apreciated. Maybe after the New Year so we can start the year right. GO RANGERS we love ya. Guy from Dutchess
good game and a very cheering and loud crowd! MSG is easy to reach and the staff is very freindly helping to find the way around.
The game really didn't start until the third period. The defense stepped up by the damage was already done. There isn't a bad seat at MSG and the fans were alot of fun to be around. The consession stands were good and there were hardly any lines.
No show, no ambiance, very poor ! We left after 30 minutes !
