New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the "Original Six" NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs — including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Nine players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, and Mike Richter. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

by Gonarock on 11/24/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkI have not been to hockey game in 25 years. Islander fan at that time. My niece came in from England and we both had a fantastic time. The game was great with the Rangers winning and I even got to see a few boxing matches. I was also able to get introduced to your players and remember the lookback to our last Stanley Cup. Thank you for a most enjoyable sporting event. My niece really enjoyed it too. She had her first Knish and cheered the Rangers on. She is now an official new yorker. Happy thanksgiving Peter

by handsome20 on 11/22/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkThe game was good but the Rangers lost. The weather was nice and so was the walk that my Girlfriend and I took through Rockefeller Center & Times Square.
Rating: 2 out of 5 Rangers 11/21/09
by Jimbo1199 on 11/22/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkI am a big Rangers fan, but spending over $300 to attend this event was a mistake. The Rangers played uninspired hockey for the first two periods of the game. Joe DiMaggio once said he gave it his all every game he played because there might be a fan in the stands seeing him play for the first time. It is obvious to me that there are no Joe DiMaggios on the Rangers.
Rating: 3 out of 5by Zantax on 11/22/09Madison Square Garden - New York The game was at a very slow pace. I felt bored at times.
Rating: 5 out of 5by nicebass4994 on 11/20/09Madison Square Garden - New York The seats were amazing!! We had two x-rangers with us in the legends box. Well worth the price we paid.

Rating: 2 out of 5 Lousy Ushers
by floydd on 11/7/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkGreat game but when you are paying over $200 a seat do you think the ushers could send bums that did not pay a fraction of what you did back to their real seat. First they were in our seats then they asked everyone to move around to accomodate them, stole stuff and at no time did anyone check their tickets even when it was obvious....it makes you feel like a chump for spending so much.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Sleepy
by LastOutlaw on 11/5/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkIt looked like both teams need two more hours to sleep. But full MSG and the atmosphere was great!

Rating: 4 out of 5 MSG great, despite vendors
by BDoc on 11/2/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkGoing to a hockey game at Madison Square Garden can't be beaten. The chill in the air, the physical nature of the play, and the devotion of the fans to the Rangers are second to none. However, the vendors hawking food get in the way by constantly walking through the aisles, holding their wears upon their heads. I can't tell you how annoying it is to have to strain to the left or right to see around a vendor. Despite the vendors, go see the Rangers at MSG. The Garden is the best arena in the world, and I've been to dozens.
Rating: 4 out of 5 very good!!!!!!!!
by jguyon on 11/2/09Madison Square Garden - New Yorkvery good show, the staduim is fantastic, most seats have a very good view. only one thing disappointed me: the atmosphere is low, the fan doesn t make a lot of noise, doesn t sing much.....
Rating: 5 out of 5 Ranger game at the Garden
by HockeystarvedinIndiana on 11/2/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkWe took our kids to NYC from Indianapolis for Fall Break to continue our quest to see every NHL Team play in as many venues as we can find. I know there are more hockey nostalgic rinks in Canada, and they are on our list, but Madison Square Garden was VERY special. It helped that it was an Original 6 match-up, and there were many celebrities there, but if you want a real arena experience with knowledgeable hockey fans, MSG is hard to beat. We loved it and the Rangers won in a 1-0 shutout. Lundquist threw his stick into the crowd after being named the first star! Great venue. Great fans. Wonderful to be part of the millions who have seen so much in this historic place.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Awesome
by Tompa on 10/31/09Madison Square Garden - New YorkThis was a world class hockey opportunity. Henke the goalkeeper was outrageous! We really enjoyed the game and the arena, me and my son.
