New York Liberty History
The New York Liberty are one of three active founding franchises in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Liberty have made six WNBA Finals appearances, in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2023 and 2024, and topped the Eastern Conference seven times. In 2023, the team captured the in-season Commissioner's Cup behind a Finals MVP performance by Jonquel Jones, and later, Breanna Stewart became the first Liberty player to win the WNBA Most Valuable Player award. New York returned to the Commissioner’s Cup Final in 2024, but fell to the Minnesota Lynx. The two teams met again in the 2024 WNBA Finals, where the Liberty claimed their first title. Jones was named the series MVP, and after the season, Stewart was selected to the All-WNBA First Team while Jones and Sabrina Ionescu made the All-WNBA Second Team.

Barclays Center is the downtown Brooklyn home of the New York Liberty. Since hosting the team’s homecoming game in 2021, Barclays Center has housed plenty of playoff action for the Liberty, including two WNBA Finals games in 2023 and three in their 2024 championship series. The downtown Brooklyn digs, which the Liberty share with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, can house 17,732 at capacity. Led by New York Liberty mascot Ellie the Elephant, home games at Barclays Center will leave fans quaking with excitement.

Avoid CLEAR and eat before coming

Eat before arriving: Barclays has limited food choices and is pre cooked prior to gate opening resulting in lukewarm hotdogs, etc. Ushers, however, are polite and professional.

The energy is always contagious and what can I say about Ellie, best mascot ever! The concession stands are the worst though-better to eat before you come.

Getting there early always allows us to enjoy short concession lines, get all our snacks and take pics before the game starts. We love watching the before game practice as it sets us up for the main entrance. The music, the vibes, Ellie, the great playing and the awesome super supportive fans make this a great experience!! We love it there!

Not only does this team bring the energy and firepower, but from the moment you enter the arena to when you step back outside, fans are treated to an unbelievable show. Ellie the Elephant (the team's mascot) deserves her own stage, not to mention the Timeless Torches and the Little Torches, and the entire squad of talented people that keep the crowd engaged during any downtime. The arena itself is clean, easy to navigate, and organized with tons of great food and drink options. By halftime during my first game, I'd made the decision to purchase season tickets. I won't miss a chance to support this incredible team — and enjoy the top-tier entertainment experience. GO LIBERTY! (And WNBA!) 10 stars.

The NY Liberty players (pick your favorites), the fans, dancing entertainment and to top it off Big Ellie! And the New York fans excitement and camaraderie. Wholesome, family fun for children and adults.. It's great to have a women's pro basketball team to root for. I now know what was missing from the NBA -WOMEN! And they are winners!

Leadership has managed to produce game day entertainment and experience that is inclusive for all age groups. It’s clear that leadership has a pulse on the culture. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the NY Liberty are a great team with great fans. The entire game was high energy. The icing on the cake was the center staff. Every person I encountered was helpful, professional, and delivered great customer service. I travel out of state to attend the game. Will be back!
