New York Liberty History
The New York Liberty are one of three active founding franchises in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Liberty have made six WNBA Finals appearances, in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2023 and 2024, and topped the Eastern Conference seven times. In 2023, the team captured the in-season Commissioner's Cup behind a Finals MVP performance by Jonquel Jones, and later, Breanna Stewart became the first Liberty player to win the WNBA Most Valuable Player award. New York returned to the Commissioner’s Cup Final in 2024, but fell to the Minnesota Lynx. The two teams met again in the 2024 WNBA Finals, where the Liberty claimed their first title. Jones was named the series MVP, and after the season, Stewart was selected to the All-WNBA First Team while Jones and Sabrina Ionescu made the All-WNBA Second Team.

Barclays Center is the downtown Brooklyn home of the New York Liberty. Since hosting the team’s homecoming game in 2021, Barclays Center has housed plenty of playoff action for the Liberty, including two WNBA Finals games in 2023 and three in their 2024 championship series. The downtown Brooklyn digs, which the Liberty share with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, can house 17,732 at capacity. Led by New York Liberty mascot Ellie the Elephant, home games at Barclays Center will leave fans quaking with excitement.

We drove to the Barclay Center for the last game of the season for the New York Liberty after watching them all season in tv. The media team has done a fantastic job of helping fans get to know the team members so we really looked forward to it and were not disappointed. I prepaid for parking for the lot behind the center on Dean St. and that experience went smoothly. It was pouring out so the Barclays Center made the decision to let fans into the lobby before their 12 pm opening time. Thank you for that BarClays Center! After the game we saw some folks were waiting at the garage so walked several blocks for some food and when we came back, no line at all. It was a really positive experience and we’re ready to drive the 3 hours again to see Liberty in the playoffs. Go Libs!
Going to a Liberty game is always a blast! These athletes can BALL, and even though we lost this game, it was an exciting nail-biter into literally the last second when Washington got lucky with a buzzer-beater. The Barclays is clean, airy, and convenient to public transportation. Go see one of NY's best teams -- the Liberty.
The Liberty were superb this year in regular season however the question is can they turn things up a notch in the postseason? They also break some records as well so that's cool with that being said they need to be locked in on both ends in this series against Washington
Not my first Liberty game but definately one of the best games Ive been to all time. The WNBA is legit and always have been. Now the Libs can bring a legit chip to NY. The 1st since the 2011 GIANTS (Sorry NYC FC not part of the big 4)
From beginning to end the New York Liberty’s game was a must see. The players has found synergy with each other and they aced the Aces. I Really enjoyed the game.
What an entertaining, high quality team. We are truly lucky as New Yorkers to have this team to watch live. And the fan experience at Barclays is great! I am bringing friends with me to games now and everyone says they have a great time.

First of all, the game was dynamite. The teams were giving us their all and the music was on point. Secondly, the Brooklyn vibe was going strong in full force, everyone was loving it. And last but not least, my childhood hero MC Lyte lit up the stage like it was 1989. She is as good as ever! Excellent performance!

Wonderful time at the Barclays. This is where the Liberty should play all home games. The game was exciting. The Barclays is easy to get to. We loved the 50 Years of Women in Hip Hop theme. These events really celebrate and entertain the fans when basketball is not being played which keeps everyone engaged. Can't wait to go back again.

Going to a NY Liberty game is always enjoyable. Barclay center is really nice, music is great and in-game entertainment is a good time. It was awesome to see the team have a big win and the crowd was outstanding
The Liberty were on fire. They played great defense and outstanding offensents. Keep it going. Can’t wait to see the return against the. aces at the end of August. I wish they played at the garden not Brooklyn. I would go more often.
