New York Knicks History
The Knicks were established in 1946 and were one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA after merging with the National Basketball League in 1949. The Knicks and Boston Celtics are the only two original NBA teams still located in their original cities.
The Knicks saw early success, advancing to the NBA Finals in three consecutive years from 1950 to 1953. They lost all three series, twice to the Minneapolis Lakers and once to the Rochester Royals. The franchise’s next successful era began in the late '60s, under the tutelage of head coach Red Holzman. They won 54 games in Holzman's first full season as head coach in the 1968–69 season, then improved to 60 wins the following year. The Knicks won their first NBA Championship in 1970, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games. Holzman won Coach of the Year, while center Willis Reed won NBA MVP and Finals MVP.
Holzman and Reed led the Knicks back to the finals in two of the next three seasons, facing the Lakers both times. They split those two series, winning their second championship in the 1972–73 season.
The Knicks did not experience success again until the '90s, when future Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing led them back to the NBA Finals in 1993–94 and 1998–99. They lost both series, first in seven games to the Houston Rockets, then in five games to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Knicks traded for star Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in 2011. He proved to be an elite scorer, but team success eluded the Knicks. They made it to the playoffs three times in Anthony's seven-year tenure with the team, winning one series in 2013.
The Knicks reached the playoffs once again during the 2020–21 season, reinvigorated by power forward Julius Randle, who was awarded the NBA’s Most Improved Player distinction in 2021, and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2023 with the additional firepower of newly-acquired point guard Jalen Brunson. The Knicks most recently reached the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2025 NBA playoffs, marking their first appearance in the conference finals since the 1999-2000 season.

It was a unique atmosphere in which the sport event has the incredible framework of the Madison square garden spectacularity.
Everything was perfect. The organisation was great and the seats were exactly as we described. Overall great experience. Will use again
Amazing experience from A to Z Just one thing. Would suggest to put more clearly that CAMERAS are not allowed inside Madison Square Garden as we could not go through security and need to have our camera "stored" at the Steward hotel nearby during the game ...
The Knicks at the Garden is a great experience. Go NY, go NY, GO!!!
Lost the game but is was an amazing experience! I can only advise it to do when you are in NY!

The Christmas Day game did not disappoint in any way. Although we lost, it was a really good game and the experience at MSG was awesome!!
Attendees a Knicks game with my family on Christmas Day. My family of 11 went to the game and the staff experience was 1 of a life time. It was my family’s first ever professional basketball game and it was a pure delight. Thank you MSG for a great Christmas holiday. Thank you staff for making the day enjoyable for my family.
The game was great but for 4 people it was over $1100for decent seats. That’s absurd but we’re only in NYC once. I would have liked to have access sooner than 1 hour so we could Look around more too.
Great game, great ambiance, great audience, a real good basketball game in a wonderful place.
My wife gave me a early birthday gift and the seats were amazing. Die hard fan for 30 plus years and it won't change i need a title from them.
So awesome and my wife was so surprised. We haven’t been to a game in years so she was super excited. The whole experience was great but only gripe is Knick tickets are so expensive.
From start to finish, the whole performance was amazing. It was our first knicks game, we travelled from Ireland, it won’t be our last.
