New York Knicks History
The Knicks were established in 1946 and were one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA after merging with the National Basketball League in 1949. The Knicks and Boston Celtics are the only two original NBA teams still located in their original cities.
The Knicks saw early success, advancing to the NBA Finals in three consecutive years from 1950 to 1953. They lost all three series, twice to the Minneapolis Lakers and once to the Rochester Royals. The franchise’s next successful era began in the late '60s, under the tutelage of head coach Red Holzman. They won 54 games in Holzman's first full season as head coach in the 1968–69 season, then improved to 60 wins the following year. The Knicks won their first NBA Championship in 1970, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games. Holzman won Coach of the Year, while center Willis Reed won NBA MVP and Finals MVP.
Holzman and Reed led the Knicks back to the finals in two of the next three seasons, facing the Lakers both times. They split those two series, winning their second championship in the 1972–73 season.
The Knicks did not experience success again until the '90s, when future Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing led them back to the NBA Finals in 1993–94 and 1998–99. They lost both series, first in seven games to the Houston Rockets, then in five games to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Knicks traded for star Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in 2011. He proved to be an elite scorer, but team success eluded the Knicks. They made it to the playoffs three times in Anthony's seven-year tenure with the team, winning one series in 2013.
The Knicks reached the playoffs once again during the 2020–21 season, reinvigorated by power forward Julius Randle, who was awarded the NBA’s Most Improved Player distinction in 2021, and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2023 with the additional firepower of newly-acquired point guard Jalen Brunson. The Knicks most recently reached the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2025 NBA playoffs, marking their first appearance in the conference finals since the 1999-2000 season.

Can’t say anymore - just a fabulous experience which I would do again in a heartbeat
Always wanted to attend a NBA game at MSG, great atmosphere and Knocks won. Have to come again 🙏
The match has been incredible and wonderful!! My girlfriend and I have really enjoyed ourself. But as per policy we have lost our selfie stick and this has change our photograph plans. We would have appreciated to find it after the match.. I kindly suggest the Organization to create a locker for tourists who take their selfie stick as nobody wants to use it as a army. We hope to coming back soon for another super match!!
I had a good time, the Knicks put on a great show. The atmosphere at MSG was amazing. I would book tickets to go again in a heart beat.
It was my first time on a basketball game! I had so much fun! The game as unreal and all the presentations between amazing! I would come back for sure!
Brilliant entertainment and great atmosphere in MSG last sunday!
Amazing. It is a must, to go to see any NBA match.
Fantastic evening! Great game. Good crowd and the Garden is magic.
Loved going to game with my son. First time since Covid. Ticketmaster prices were great along with seats.
Absolutely amazing entertainment from start to finish, great game and great atmosphere, came over from Ireland and would recommend it to everyone..... Top class.....
Website is user friendly, easy to choose sector and sits, perfect service…fantastic match.
Awesome venue to experience if in New York. We had a brilliant view from row 5 block 223. Madison Square Garden is a great venue, really easy to find your way around and lots of facilities - hardly a queue in sight, but probably more to do with the cost - but I guess not unusual for a US sporting event
The atmosphere at the game is really what it’s all about, music, games, side shows etc it’s not just about basketball. Incredible experience!
As a tourist visiting New York I was overwhelmed with the atmosphere and would recommend anyone visiting to go to a Knicks game.
Very good experience and game. We love it! Good orgnisation everything was great
We booked this for my sons 7th Birthday while we were in NY! We all loved the experience of MSG and seeing our 1st basketball game. It was $$$, but worth it! Ticketmaster booking process was excellent as we could see the seats / view of the court. The seats were ideal!
They didn’t allow me to enter the stadium with my non-professional GoPro and I’ve to go to a locker room nearby (under recommendation of the gatekeeper) to keep my things there. That was very annoying and never happened to me in a NBA game before (they didn’t give me any explanation, just NBA rules). I am still wondering if the gatekeeper receives any commission for this. Very bad experience for me and my 13-year old son being the first time in the Garden.
Coming from England this is a great experience. The American game is so different. It was crazy bonkers....and I loved it. These games are for the fans, I totally get it now. And can't wait to go again. Luckily too that the Knicks won!
We had an amazing time at the Knicks it was a great game! However food and drink it very expensive inside. $60 for 3 drinks!! In addition we did want to go to a hockey game the next night but ticketmaster wouldn’t sell tickets to me because I hadn’t an American address which I found strange as I’d bought the Knicks tickets with the same address
