New York Knicks History
The Knicks were established in 1946 and were one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA after merging with the National Basketball League in 1949. The Knicks and Boston Celtics are the only two original NBA teams still located in their original cities.
The Knicks saw early success, advancing to the NBA Finals in three consecutive years from 1950 to 1953. They lost all three series, twice to the Minneapolis Lakers and once to the Rochester Royals. The franchise’s next successful era began in the late '60s, under the tutelage of head coach Red Holzman. They won 54 games in Holzman's first full season as head coach in the 1968–69 season, then improved to 60 wins the following year. The Knicks won their first NBA Championship in 1970, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games. Holzman won Coach of the Year, while center Willis Reed won NBA MVP and Finals MVP.
Holzman and Reed led the Knicks back to the finals in two of the next three seasons, facing the Lakers both times. They split those two series, winning their second championship in the 1972–73 season.
The Knicks did not experience success again until the '90s, when future Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing led them back to the NBA Finals in 1993–94 and 1998–99. They lost both series, first in seven games to the Houston Rockets, then in five games to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Knicks traded for star Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in 2011. He proved to be an elite scorer, but team success eluded the Knicks. They made it to the playoffs three times in Anthony's seven-year tenure with the team, winning one series in 2013.
The Knicks reached the playoffs once again during the 2020–21 season, reinvigorated by power forward Julius Randle, who was awarded the NBA’s Most Improved Player distinction in 2021, and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2023 with the additional firepower of newly-acquired point guard Jalen Brunson. The Knicks most recently reached the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2025 NBA playoffs, marking their first appearance in the conference finals since the 1999-2000 season.

New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden
Located above Penn Station, the current Madison Square Garden(Opens in new tab) has been the home to the Knicks since 1968 and is one of the most iconic arenas in all of sports. The Knicks' arena has always been called Madison Square Garden, and they played in the previous iteration from the founding of the franchise in 1946 until moving to the current building in 1968. The current MSG is the oldest NBA arena still in use. Madison Square Garden also has the distinction of being the only NBA arena that is not named after a corporate sponsor.

9 of us bought $85 tickets and we couldn't see the scoreboard from section 414, which really takes away from the whole experience. How you're selling $85 tix for that kind of obstructed view, or why you have any seats in the whole arena from which you can't see the scoreboard (and so can't see the score!!) is a total mystery.
Easy process to buy and download ticket. Only stumbling point was had to give an American address of hotel to purchase as wouldn't let me do it with English address

I can’t believe I paid more money for the last row in the whole arena, on folding chairs. My kids were so disappointed, as was I - I gladly would have paid less money for closer seats. What a bad experience.
Overall the experience was great except for the people around me they must have got a total of ten times it was annoying thought people to watch a game not to go back and forth to whatever its why watch the games at home
Even though the Knicks lost in OT, the game was insane and everything around were just spectacular👏🏼 My first time here and I highly recommend it, even if you aren’t a basketball fan😉

From when you entered the Arena until you left, it was just first class. The atmosphere in the warm up, during the match and after was brilliant. It was probably one of the best sporting events I’ve been too.
Well, what can I say! WOW!! This was mine and my girlfriends first ever experience at a basketball event and what better place to do it than MSG! The atmosphere was absolutely electric. The stadium was insane The staff were brilliant, friendly and polite! There was t shirt cannons! Dance offs! Celebrity cams! We even met Eric Andre as we was leaving. We will 100% be back.
It was such a great experience! It was just like a dream. We had a great time watching this game. It was our first NBA game, and as french tourists we can say that it was just like in a movie!
Both my children insisted watching a basketball game when we visited New York. As a family we all went along and oh boy did we have a great time. Even my wife enjoyed it 🤣
