New York Knicks History
The Knicks were established in 1946 and were one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA after merging with the National Basketball League in 1949. The Knicks and Boston Celtics are the only two original NBA teams still located in their original cities.
The Knicks saw early success, advancing to the NBA Finals in three consecutive years from 1950 to 1953. They lost all three series, twice to the Minneapolis Lakers and once to the Rochester Royals. The franchise’s next successful era began in the late '60s, under the tutelage of head coach Red Holzman. They won 54 games in Holzman's first full season as head coach in the 1968–69 season, then improved to 60 wins the following year. The Knicks won their first NBA Championship in 1970, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games. Holzman won Coach of the Year, while center Willis Reed won NBA MVP and Finals MVP.
Holzman and Reed led the Knicks back to the finals in two of the next three seasons, facing the Lakers both times. They split those two series, winning their second championship in the 1972–73 season.
The Knicks did not experience success again until the '90s, when future Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing led them back to the NBA Finals in 1993–94 and 1998–99. They lost both series, first in seven games to the Houston Rockets, then in five games to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Knicks traded for star Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in 2011. He proved to be an elite scorer, but team success eluded the Knicks. They made it to the playoffs three times in Anthony's seven-year tenure with the team, winning one series in 2013.
The Knicks reached the playoffs once again during the 2020–21 season, reinvigorated by power forward Julius Randle, who was awarded the NBA’s Most Improved Player distinction in 2021, and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2023 with the additional firepower of newly-acquired point guard Jalen Brunson. The Knicks most recently reached the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2025 NBA playoffs, marking their first appearance in the conference finals since the 1999-2000 season.

I'm french, and it was the 1rst time I go to NY in the MSG. And for the 1rst game NBA i saw, everything was perfect... Thanks a lot for everythings... Arawak
The game was really exciting. I would definitely go again.
very nice but no cheerleader :( and floks very shine...to bad
Hello there, First time in N-Y city, it was a must to come here and see a match ! What was cool : The reception, people help you with pleasure for seating or any other asks ! The animation around the game was funny ! What was not cool : The match quality... I was disapointed. OK Knicks and Nets are low classment but it's still the NBA ! So much misses, not a great moment. Also the MSG was 50% full. Not great for creating a good ambiance !
It was a great game and the fact that it was for charity made it even better.
a little disappointing that Maccabi lost, but what an experience to be at Madison Square Garden to see Maccabi playing, was GREAT!!!
Other than the food choices which were horrible the event reeally was a lot of fun.
Can't recall ever attending an event at Madison Square Garden where attendees rooted for the visiting team. Can't recall ever attending an event anywhere that was delayed because a coach who had been ejected refused to leave. An unusual and highly entertaining experience.
It was great and fun. It was a momery i wont forget
One of my pet hates are venues that do not allow you to take in food yet charge an arm and a leg for unpalatable, unhealthy cuisine ... and this is yet another venue of that ilk! The game was fantastic and we had a great time (and highly recommend), but ended up with an empty wallet and heartburn due to their poor catering standards!
A lot of fun. Knicks won. Great game. Will go again.
concession stand was great. game was just average, bur i look forward to going to all the games.
It was awesome!!! The players were in top form! The Cheerleaders were amazing, The half time entertainment was off da hook. I enjoyed the Dance Cam,the young boy who danced to Mj,Mc Hammer,Usher....,the freebies.
As we prepare for another NBA season, while I think that we shouldn't just give up on this season for next year's free-agency, the Knicks debut at the garden was less than great. Their shooting looked very rusty, and was kind of a concern. Hopefully by the time the season begins, they will have it together. If I had to judge the Knicks strictly based upon lastnight's performance... I think that we're looking at a 30-35 win season. Hopefully I'm wrong. But I am a huge NY Knicks fan!!! So lets get it together boys!!!
