New York Islanders History
The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.
GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena
Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.
The New York Islanders’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at home as the Islanders face off against the Buffalo Sabres. The Islanders will participate in the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series — hosted at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — against the New York Rangers on February 18. They play their final game of the regular season at home against Metropolitan Division rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023–24 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the New York Islanders.
The Islanders have made five appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, and have won the Stanley Cup four times (in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983).

The UBS Arena is a great place to watch a game. It is very well set up with great sight lines. There is alot of room in the concourse to get around.
App was great. Accurate and Easy to use. Easy fast access inside Arena.
Good food also good seats I really enjoyed my time and I would like to go again and I recommend to try the food because it was amazing
It was the best day of the year I loved it I had good seats. The good was good also good game even know the islanders lost I still loved the game u should go to UBS it was amazing.
Prices are excessive. Food options are poor. The lines for concessions are unreasonable. Parking is atrocious. The sound in the arena was a let down too. Expected so much more from a brand new arena.
Parking convenient but too long a walk from arena. UBS is terrific. Good good. Seating good. And event experience is great
This was my first time at UBS ARENA i was very impressed with the outside looks , inside as well , how easy it was to get something to eat or drink , and the seats were good also even though i was high up it was very easy to see the event . The parking is a little hectic but im sure it will get better in time.
Emerald parking sucks…. long walk after game in the rain. Everybody aggressively trying to get out after game. I’ll catch my Bruins in NJ next time.
The arena its beautiful the stores to shop had everything you want. The place was very clean the bathrooms was also very very clean and there is no line waiting overall it was amazing i love it and my family also love it. i will definitely go back again that's how great the arena is
Beautiful arena. Not a bad seat. Only thing I give a zero was I didn’t use my parking pass and it is not good for another event.
Great win and beautiful arena but Emerald parking situation will deter me from going to more games. Had to wait 20 min for a shuttle in 15 degree weather. For the amount charged , the parking situation is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I will not go to another event until addressed. If you're spending $1B+ on an arena, spend a few million on a monorail system that will be much faster shuttling people from the parking lot to arena and back.
Seat pricing is very good and sightlines are great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food choices though are pretty bad. Over priced and very bland inside the arena. Did not try Belmont Hall yet but hoping that may be better. Food was way way better in Brooklyn. Overall the walkways seemed very empty in comparison to past arenas though understand that could be due to COVID and may pick up in the future. Seemed to be a little too much emphasis on private areas. We were in section 117 and were not even allowed to walk out through one of those areas even though the game was over.
Great arena. Very accessible by drop off pick up! Pricey but a great afternoon!!!
Parking was a nightmare in the Emerald Lot. You need better signage and different options to get out. Or someone to direct traffic. Horrible experience after the game.
Getting into arena was fast and easy. I just wish that my team had showed up!
Traveled via Long Island Railroad to Elmont-UBS Arena stop; used the provided luxury bus shuttle; easy entrance (security) to opulent main gate area; very good concessions with minimal waiting; exemplary seating, and sound; easy out and LIRR service from Belmont Park to Jamaica. Exemplary experience
The one bad is the permiter fence needs more gates. Forcing everybody thru one choke point / gate near the train station is not safe. This brings covid and securiry to mind. If there ever was an incident you would have people trampling each other trying to leave the area thru one gate. Covid isues are obvious as well.
Rode JFK AirTrain and Long Island Railroad to Belmont Park station. Very easy walk to UBS Arena from station. Checked IDs and vax cards well-outside entrance so there weren’t any bottlenecks. Security and ticket entrance was easy. Nice wide concourses. Didn’t get to see concession selection because we arrived at Arena later than we wanted to. Sight lines inside Arena are amazing and seating is comfortable. I don’t think there’s an obstructed view anywhere. Very well lit. Scoreboard took getting used to (as visitor) but it was very good. Concessions were good quality but a bit pricey. Heard that complaint often among Islanders fans. Much respect to a very friendly and passionate fanbase along with a very friendly Arena staff. Everyone made this road fan feel welcome. Especially appreciated the military salute—something I wouldn’t have expected in NY market. Fans are still getting used to the building but once they do, it’s going to be one of the most raucous buildings in NHL. Yes. Yes. Yes. I will return if I get the opportunity.
So happy to be one of the thousands of fans to see the Isles when their first ever game at their new home. Killer space and killer game. Sorokan saves and the Greene machine on the D. Can't wait to go again!
It was an amazing night of hockey. The new UBS Arena is amazing. The game was awesome. 1st win in the new place!!
